Irons for 15-20 Handicapper with thin top line?
pjsnyc replied to dmbisbest's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Check out these irons - http://thesandtrap.com/clubs/nickent...o_irons_review I know they're a few years old, but they're basically a player's cavity back - feels like a blade when struck properly but offers some forgiveness with minimal offset and a thin top line. Lower trajectory, but I prefer that anyway :) You can probably find a brand new set online for $200, maybe less! -
It was really cool seeing intensity in Jim's eyes - especially seeing him go after those sunday par 3 sucker pin locations. I think he'll have a good run at a major this year, just not at the US Open I think. As for Tiger, simply amazing. Stayed up til 1AM last night watching my DVR. I guess I won't be jumping the gun and getting a 9.5* or less driver.

I went to one game this season too and sat in my seat for all of one inning. There isn't one section of the ball park that was not worth checking out. My favorite part about the new stadium is how they have these standing areas surrounding the park and no matter what seat you have, you can go down to field level and catch an amazing view (so long as your legs can stand it). On the other hand, I don't like how when the stadium is empty and the ushers will not let you down into the field level seats. I mean the security there is on par with armored bank tanks. At least let the real fans move down in the 7th inning or something. SHEESH!

I'll say it one more time: the example in my original post is just that - an example . Read through the plethora of other decisions in the rule book and you'll see where I'm getting at.
-
Definitely good to read through once in a while. It just never dawned on me the sheer quantity of decisions designed to protect naive golfers. I'll admit that there are plenty of instances where I don't know an exact ruling and just kinda interpret them myself and refer back afterwards... but damn!
-
The one I quoted above is an example. I'm merely pointing out the irony of this all - those that took the time to read the rules and decisions are subject to more penalties (since they know the rules!) but those that didn't take time to read them are given some slack. It just seems backwards to me is all.

I was bored yesterday so I decided to read The Rules of Golf ...again Anyone ever notice how many decisions were made/altered so as to protect golfers that have never read the Rules of Golf? Here's an example: I'm surprised these decisions don't drive Roger Maltbie up the wall. Just my $0.02. What are your thoughts?

Clearly you haven't been to a Red Sox or Patriots game :P
-
OK - not to get ahead of myself here...but they're starting to look damn good ... ...and dare I say 'like a team'
-
Oh no! What have I done? But yeah - definitely agree with the 'no more all black white belt' thing. Leave that for camilo and sergio.

I'll be cheering his lard-ass on (especially given the circumstances). Go Phil!

Elbows pointed which way at address?

In case any of you are a little confused as to what I'm talking about, take a look at this diagram: http://homepage.mac.com/brianmanzell...nmorelines.gif In the first image on the far left - my leading arm is set either just like it is pictured (pointing across towards my trailing arm) OR my leading arm is rotated counterclockwise so that the fold in my elbow isn't pointing across toward my other arm but more outward and towards the sky. Everything else appears to be set normally for me (back of hand mirrors clubhead, etc). Hope this makes sense. -
Ball closest to ProV1
pjsnyc replied to songwriter's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
FWIW - I've been playing Nike One Platinums recently (haven't yet tried the One Tour series yet, but should be similar) and honestly am starting to like them more than ProV1s. You definitely lose some distance and the trajectory can get pretty high, but I find that they perform much better off the tee in terms of anti slice/hook than the Titleists yet still have a crap load of spin for greenside shots. Feels nice off the putterhead too! -
Elbows pointed which way at address?
pjsnyc replied to pjsnyc's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
So I played a round yesterday consciously trying one method - the elbow folds pointing straight up and away from me as opposed to facing each other at address. It felt more natural for me (I guess that's what I had been doing mostly anyway). I'm just surprised I'm noticing this NOW. The other day when I was doing both (the reason for this thread) it felt like the time a pro asked me if I held my breath while swinging and all I could think was 'I'm not sure' and proceeded to suck the rest of the round - totally messed with my head. -

Thanks. My scores have been suffering the past month or so. Hopefully this will help. -
I recently realized something in my swing and honestly don't know what to do or what is proper. I'm a righty and when I address the ball, the fold in my left elbow sometimes points directly up at towards the sky and at other times it points directly across to my right arm. Can either produce a swing flaw I'm not aware of? I wanted to reference Ben Hogan's 5 fundamentals, but couldn't find it.

Day 14 for me. I chew probably 2-3 pieces of 4mg nicorette daily though.
-
And I will use a golf ball to mark my ball :P I have one of those poker chips though (freebie at golfsmith) and I swear I thought I saw a PGA Tour Pro use that as his ball marker on TV too. Can't remember who though.
-
Thought I'd mention this - its also possible that you need to enable a disk mode or usb mode (or something of the like) on the camera before hooking it up to your computer.
-
I chip with my hybrid at times too. Especially on those delicate downhill chips from the greenside fringe - really helps to get the ball rolling sooner and smoother than with a wedge (or a putter). Try not to get overzealous with the hybrid chipping idea though - pick the right situations that call for this kind of chip shot. It has come back to bite me at times.
-
Gloves and tees definitely. With tees, I tend to only use the ones I buy when using driver (6 or so times a round). Otherwise, I look for a broken tee and use that for my tee shots with irons or woods (or even make a fluffy lie like Woody Austin or Henrik Stenson).

100 yards out...what % do you hit the green?
pjsnyc replied to juanrjackson's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Roughly 50% of the time, maybe a little less. -

I believe Randalls Island has grass as an option.
