  1. Akhil: it looks like a pretty nice swing to me. You come into the ball nicely from the inside which is great. It looks like the path of your club after impact is heading left (i.e. 11 on a clock face) which would close the face. When I had this problem I had to concentrate very hard at keeping the path heading more towards 1:00 (if that makes sense). You do "stand up" at and after impact: your spine angle changes dramatically from your set up position which will make it difficult to keep the club square. These may not work for you, so please do not stick with them if they don't, they are just things that have worked for me: Try to maintain a consistent spine angle through your shot and see what that does. And/or think about your club continuing to travel more towards 1 on the clock dial after the shot
  2. Yes, you sure are flipping it in your photo. Jim Mclean calls that a "death move" that has to be fixed and it is one of the 5 keys of the instructors here. You should look at the 5sk videos on "flat left wrist" at impact.
  3. Oh, yes, I see, Hawaii. That IS tough. Pooooor 808hacker, he lives in paradise. Even if there is not a wide selection, I think he's still better off going there to see what they have. Again, you don't have to buy anything. I just think you're going to do better having him swing a few, even if there are limited choices, than trying to do it on the blind based upon what other people like.
  4. If it was a 3 iron, that would allow it to be moved forward a bit, but it still looks like its pretty forward in your stance. I am guessing you don't take a lot of divots and if you miss it you hit it thin or behind the ball slightly? If you look at your hands at address, they are actually behind the ball; the shaft angle of the clubs should bring your hands slightly ahead of the ball at address (look at pictures of pro golfers and you will see the difference). Maybe try moving the ball back in your stance just a bit and pay attention to your shaft angle at address?
  5. What did you do differently to make this adjustment?
  6. What club are you hitting in the video? The angle could be deceiving, but it looks like the ball is pretty far forward in your stance.
  7. Probably because the sales person is trying to sell you the most expensive shaft. You don't have to buy it. You simply buy your favorite shaft at the price point you want. It's more about finding the right weight, flex, kick-point etc. in your price range.
  8. No. Its much more important that he get the one that is right for him. Take him to any place he can get fit or hit a bunch of clubs and make him try every shaft they have. Don't pay attention to the brand of the head; just find a shaft that works for him.
  9. If you expect to be treated like royalty with the help bowing out of your way as you pass, you have pay for it. I love playing first thing in the morning, but I expect the grounds crew to be out there. When they are in my way and see me, they will waive me on and I don't hit until they do. I don't expect them to stop working, and I tell them so.
  10. Looks to me like your club head is approaching the ball slightly from the outside, which may account for the fade.
  11. Actually...to my eye, impact position does not look the same. It appears your left wrist has broken down and you are flipping the club. The instructors here emphasize a "flat left wrist" at impact. As you can see your left wrist is a bit bowed back. Your pro is not leading you down the wrong path. Plus, he is going to be able to do a lot more for you while seeing you live. As my first boss told me: if you are going to pay someone for their advice, you should take it.
  12. I don't do anything. I never play for enough money so that it would make a difference to my day. Certainly don't say something in front of other people. If you need to make a loser look like more of a loser over $5, $10, $20 or whatever, it just makes you look petty. He just never gets a money match again unless he pays without a reminder and generally does not get the courtesy of a free drink in a situation where I would pay for someone else .
  13. It looks like you hit the ball pretty well in those videos. It would be helpful to see some "bad" shots to compare the two. Nice swing, especially for someone playing less than a year.
  14. The solution for a prettier swing is really quite obvious: have whomever is filming you swing your club. Spending time with you down at the range, giving you feedback.... that girl is a keeper. There is a lot of body movement. In your videos use the objects in the background as guides and you can see how much your position changes. Try to keep your head in a steady position and rotate through the ball. You may have to stand a bit taller over the ball at address (I say that because you are standing up to hit the ball)
  15. I don't think Iacas was commenting on your swing but rather responding to TMAC's suggestion that you were not parallel at the top (i.e. Iacas does not think you necessarily need to get parallel with the club). Your torso turn and arm travel is quite good. In fact it looks a lot like Tiger's in the two photos posted by Tmac!
  16. I have had similar experiences and it is usually related to weight shift or as your playing partner said "leaning back." While hitting your driver,if your timing is right you can murder it, even though you are hanging back, because it allows you to hit up on the ball which you can do when it is on a tee. Obviously, you cannot hit up when the ball is on the ground, so any weight back is going to cause that right shoulder to drop and chunk it. Check your ball position too. If it has changed you may be leaning back as an adjustment to get to the ball in a different spot. That may not be your problem, but that is what happens to me.
  17. Hey, what do you know. I did it. Thanks for any input.
  18. I've been Playing Golf for: 14 years My current handicap index or average score is: 11 My typical ball flight is: high draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: driver inaccuracy Can you please take a look at the two videos below and tell me what differences you see? In the one where I am in a sweater, I feel as though I do a much better job at shifting my weight and getting through the ball. In the other one, I feel as though I am hanging back. I am familiar with the tips/videos on helping shift weight and I know what it feels like to do it. What would really be helpful is if you see any difference in the two swings that may be causing it. I have no problem shifting my weight and getting through my irons. I am aware my front leg does not fully straighten at impact. That is the result of a bad lower back which can't handle the torque. . Videos:
  19. In my opinion, getting fit to the right shaft is much more important than the brand of the head. There are so many variations in weight, kickpoint, stiffness, etc. that a proper shaft fitting is what makes the most difference. Whenever I get fit for clubs, once I get the right shaft, I hit all of the heads virtually the same. so, yes, try all the shafts they have, regardless of what head is on them, Once you find a few you like, then start messing with the head.
  20. There are probably a million golf tips out there and they don's work for everyone. My favorite instructor insists that she can't tell me what a particular move feels like; its different for each person. Your posture is not bad at all. I think the advice Stretch gave you was to "relax" a bit. You may have turned that into another "active" adjustment (to use your words, "get into the C position.") You could now be in a C position (which I don't fully understand what that is and it doesn't "sound" right to me) AND still be too stiff. You may not have fixed the problem at all and instead just kept it in a different posture. Take your normal stance and just relax yourself a bit. Or...forget about the posture thing for now if it is not working for you. Be careful not to make dramatic changes. The Great Harvey Pennick insisted on little adjustments. In his words: when you take an aspirin, you take a couple, not the whole bottle. Don't get discouraged. Swing changes will feel uncomfortable and be difficult. If something you hear on this forum does not work for you, don't do it. People here don't have the benefit of seeing you swing a bunch and we are for the most part not instructors. We're golf fanatics who THINK we know what we are talking about, but most likely don't. I mean, really...I'm a god-damn 10 handicap and I talk like I'm Butch Harmon. Think about the tips as suggestions rather than absolutes.
  21. Don't buy anything new. You can get much better used clubs for the price. I never buy new irons.
  22. without seeing the rest of your swing.... one of the instructors will most likely be along here soon to give you more precise help, but you are flipping the club prior to impact; instead of doing what the 5keys instructors call keeping a flat left wrist: shaft forward and wrist flat at impact. Go to this link and look for Key #3. http://thesandtrap.com/t/61376/5sk-video-thread If you can do that, your left arm will take care of itself
  23. It looks pretty good to my eye. I don't know what you have been working on, but the finish is really restricted. The rest of the swing is pretty athletic. I am probably way off, but: that tells me you are trying "not" to do something which is a negative thought. It's hard to be athletic trying not to do something . You say you are still "flippy" , are you telling yourself "don't flip" Whenever I am working on something, I find it helpful to think of what TO do while hitting the ball as opposed what NOT to do. So, when I get flippy I tell myself to"release the club later" as opposed to "don't release early". That seems to free my swing up a LOT more and make it a more aggressive and athletic move. Don't get down. We all have been there. For some real life perspective: if that is your biggest bitch of the week, you're life is pretty damn good! I hope that helps.
  24. When I am hitting it fat, its virtually always one of two things: 1) weight back; or, 2) a too early release of the club (and its usually weight back).
