I bought the GPS-8 Golflogix and have played a few rounds with it and it seems accurate and easy to use so far. Just walk or drive along and the screen changes automatically. I'm fine with front/center/back of green numbers plus a few fairway hazards.

Golflogix is a great GPS but just be aware the prices are dropping on existing ones because they have a new model coming out in March called GPS-8. The old one is fine, it just has a few less features so the price is much better then it was in the past. It was $350 all through 2007. I bailed out on buying the current model back in December because I kind of figured they'd do something new for 2008 and I wanted some of the new features of the GPS-8. Here's the press release on the newer GPS-8. http://www.worldgolf.com/newswire/br...-GPS-8-product

Thanks Billy, I just took the plunge and ordered the Garmin Golflogix

Hitting a PW out of sand is tough because of no bounce on the club sole so it naturally digs in instead of slides under. Picking in clean is about only way to fly with a PW. That works for flat bunker with low sides. Pretty much any standard SW should work for you if you want to blast it out instead for higher lip bunkers. I struggle with sand myself and a few years ago got a "Lovett" wedge off an infomercial on golf channel. It has a more curved spoon shape to dig through sand better for high-handicappers. They had similar thing a few years ago with "alien" wedge too I think.

I've never bought golf equipment from eBay. I generally but from other online stores.

Right and low implies inside to out path + thin topped shots so maybe you have too flat a plane for wedges? Maybe try a little steeper path and take club back and up and less inside on backwsing. That's one thing that comes to my mind.

I agree the belly putter makes a nice pendulum. I tried one a few years back but ended up going back to a regular putter again but with a modified low-front hand cross-handed putting grip that does well to achieve a pendulum stroke.

As a Beginner - Does the Ball Really Matter?
mceb replied to clickagent75's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree cost is the biggest factor for newbies so buy something that's not going to break you if you lose a dozen. Once you get better you can buy a more expensive ball. -
I'm recently sold on the Yes! putters. Their catalog has many different blade options depending on your putting stroke (arc or straight back). Here's the link: http://www.yesgolf.com/pdf/2007_catalog.pdf

I struggled with long irons and then I gave up on them long time ago. I don't even buy 3 or 4 irons in my sets anymore. They have so many other options such as low profile fairway woods (#7, 9) and hybrids which get the job done beyond 150.

Good point about wrist cock, tightness and no elbow lock allin. I good wrist cock and smaller swing just makes the arm stay straight naturally. A good wrist cock is the major power source in a swing.

I started supporting Chelsea around 7 years ago. Thanks to the Fox soccer channel here in the U.S.

Ok that is strange but I think the same principle would work with a more normal "connected" half backswing, pause and downswing. That's something you can take to a course and not have people staring
-
Maybe their name just implies that but this sequence clearly shows just a smaller backswing? Maybe I don't get it, I'll search for a video of it somewhere. http://www.golf.com/golf/gallery/art...652959,00.html

Too funny that's pretty much my swing but I call it a half swing. I think it's great swing for a weekend hacker who only gets out couple times a month. Less moving parts is more repeatable. I also like a long pause at the top. Better ball contact actually gives me all the distance I need from the reduced swing size. Less is more I guess
-
After many years of bad habits and bad golf I settled on smaller compact half swing. Less chance of errors creeping in such as bent elbow.

Good story Ken, technology does offer us some advantages

Knowing the distance from all locations is an asset at any handicap level I would think. Pros carry very detailed yardage books that tell them the distance to everything on all 18 holes. Beyond 200 yards a higher handicapper could calculate a distance for lay up to make their 3rd shot easier for example. Also many public course are poorly marked and only have yardage markers at 2 or 3 points in the fairway.

Thanks TJM, great review I noticed on their website under "future" they claim to have patents for golf shot/round statistical analysis and tracking that they claim they will bring to market eventually. Personally I think that would be an awesome feature to have a history of rounds and shots stored on the web or desktop software to analyze trends in my game. I've heard some comments about the fact they only have 3 extra markings besides the green front/center/back. The extra markings would be for hazards I guess? Garmin seems to be trying to balance ease of use in their software and not having to press buttons all the time to get more detailed readings. I've also read some comments in other places regarding the fact that they plan on releasing a software upgrade later in the year (free to existing users) that adds a few competitive features such as more details for those who desire it as well as shot distance.

Thanks all. I'm zeroing in on a YES! putter. I don't want any gimmicks.

I know putters are a personal feel kind of thing but does anyone have any thoughts on the "Heavy Putter"? Is it a major advance in putting or just another fad? I was wondering if I should just invest in a Scotty someday instead. It's hard being lefty to even find one to test sometimes. I have to hit a few more stores tomorrow to see if I can find one around here.

Help in Choosing a Low-Priced Fairway Wood for a Beginner
mceb replied to BaronV's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've recently ordered "The Perfect Club" (web site is their name). They seem to specialize in shorter length shafts with heavier swingweights in the clubhead. I've always struggled with longer shafted clubs especially fairway woods so the shorter length shaft sounds like something that will do me good. Oh and all their clubs seem to be below $100 per club. -
Hi all, anyone have any experience with the Garmin GolfLogix GPS yet? I've been doing some research and that seems to be the one I'm targeting to buy later in the year.
-
I'm using the Rife 2 Bar putter last 2 years. Previously I had been through many different putters but I seem to have settled on the 2 Bar. It has different weights you can change to give the head a light, medium or heavy feel.

the switch: graphite to steel shafted irons
mceb replied to itzzzberny's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I switched back to steel shafts for my irons about a year ago and it's the best decision I've made in a while. With graphite I always had trouble feeling the club head. I've seen no loss in distance and increase in accuracy with steel. They have many lightweight steel shafts. Next up I'm heading to steel shafts on my fairway woods. I just ordered 2 of those "perfect clubs"
