What's the hottest weather you've ever golfed in?
Drewskie replied to divot dave's topic in Golf Talk
Played yesterday here in san antonio, the guy in the pro shop said it was 103. We went directly after church and I forgot my hat so I have a sweet raccoon tan line on my face from my sunglasses. -
101 yesterday. Had a couple good pars and a couple blow up holes. Quite a few bogeys but overall not too bad.

Greetings to all...Golf Neophite from San Antonio, Texas
Drewskie replied to Callawayred's topic in Welcome, Everyone
Welcome! I'm also in San Antonio, there are a few pretty nice courses around here -
Other than golf I love to play soccer. Played since I was about 4 on teams regularly up until about age 20. I still play on small men's league teams every now and then, but work gets in the way quite a bit. Until I picked up golf a couple years ago I enjoyed spending money on my car, but that's taken a back seat.

I'm on tapatalk right now, no problems for me. -
We played a round as part of my brother in law's bachelor party, and the group in front of us wore the old school knickers and such. They didn't play with old clubs or anything but it really took us all by surprise when they walked into the pro shop.

Music on the Course - When Did This Become a Thing?
Drewskie replied to wedge player's topic in Golf Talk
I had never even thought about it until my brother in law pulled out his phone and started playing pandora one day. Now it's one of the first things I'll do in the cart. It's always on relaxed music, and turned down when we come near other groups. -
A guy I play with will not count all of his tee shots. Sometimes he hits 2 or 3 off the tee just because he loses the first couple and will only count the 1 he likes. We all play pretty relaxed but it is so frustrating when I card a legitimate bogey or double and he cards par after taking 3 shots off the tee.

We have a VERY nice muni around here I played last week that has a 220 yard par 3. That's a solid 5wood for me. But pulling that club doesn't give me much of any control of where the ball is ending up lol.
-
Isn't that geared more towards charity and just a good time? I caught a bit of it last year and it seemed less serious than a real tournament.

Played with my dad just me and him for the first time in over 8 years (was awesome btw). Neither one of us breaks 100 regularly yet but we had fun. We were on a long par 4 and after a few shots I ended up behind the green and behind a huge oak tree. I probably could have gone under the branches but what fun is that? I opened the face of my 60* and "flopped" it up just over the tree and ended up about 5' from the pin. Made the putt to save double bogey :-D:-( On another hole I really got a hold of my new 3wood and took it about 277 uphill. Had right at 100 yards to the green, shanked a wedge shot to the right of the green, ended up saving par for the hole!:-D

What to get the Golfing Dad this Father's Day?
Drewskie replied to 2nd Swing Golf's topic in Golf Talk
If my younger brother has to work ill be taking my dad out for a round at a nice course around here. If my brother doesn't have to work I think we may spend the day at the shooting range. Dad loves shooting guns and my brother can't swing a golf club to save his life lol. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Drewskie replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Cheap tees, cheap glove, and a box of pinnacles. Although my wife spent a little more money and had snuck a RBZ 3wood into her car for me while I was playing with the RBZ line in the hitting bays. :-D -
I bought a 60* from academy for around $7 a while back. It's lasted a good while and is probably the best $7 I've spent for the game.
-
I agree with both above on the pinnacle gold. Couple of my brother in laws rented clubs a few rounds ago and they came with a couple sleeves of the pinnacles. They gave me the balls after the round since they never play and I took them out instead of playing the Q star I usually do and I was very pleased with the pinnacles.

How much would you charge for one of those?? Those are pretty cool

This is a great idea. I'll have to come up with something for the next time my dad and I play.

Guy I play with every now and then showed me that he'll look at the cup and make a couple praactice swings while keeping his eyes on the cup. He also told me to give the swing purpose. Give the backswing an end point and the follow through an end point. A lot of the time I would just swing away, but this has cut a few strokes out of my rounds.

My fiance's sister did that with her son. He hit the ball and she went crazy. It was terribly embarrassing.

I can relate to the last 2 posts. My fiance is 1 of 17, and we spend most of our free time with them. Lucky for me though one of her brothers is about an 8 and another one is high up like me so we play when we can. Although they have families that take up more time. I work a restaurant job and go to school so my hours are all off whack. I played a nice inexpensive 9 hole course Sunday that I'm going to try and squeeze in when I can. Sunday is my only day off and my fiance usually wants to spend time together. I think it's going to have to be church then golf on sundays to make the mrs. Happy lol. Gioguy we are planning to go to the courthouse and have the JP marry us. So much cheaper and we're going to use the money for a nice honeymoon and have a little bit of a savings.

Shot 93 today on a 9 hole course my brother in law and I played twice. It's a par 68 and plays rather easy. My first time making it into the 90s and I only lost 1 ball so I'm pretty happy. Had a few pars, and a couple chances at birdie but couldn't figure out the putting. The first two holes each time around I lost it and made ~7 or 8 each time. Other than that it was pretty much bogey golf. Not a hard course at all but it was nice to get the confidence level up.
-
The only thing I say to my ball is "Where are you??"
-
My fiancé has some pretty bad back problems, so she can't really play. She goes to the range with me a lot and will tee up a 5wood and can hit it pretty long and straight. It's pretty funny seeing other people stop when she gets good contact. But with her back problems she only gets a handful of swings in.

+1 For talking through my backswing. I played with a couple of my fiance's brothers yesterday and they would not shut up. I'm not sure if it really hindered my performance much but it was annoying as heck. Also don't like the obnoxious guy. Yesterday one of them lit up a big ol cigar on the 1st tee at 8am and started drinking heavily on the 2nd hole. I think they bought at least 18 beers from the cart girl by the end of it.
