Golf Channel/Arnold Invitational make big mistake

Slice City. -
Haven't played a round by myself but so far I always end up alone at the driving range/practice green. I enjoy the comraderie of another player personally and unlike SirMilton have found that having someone to bounce ideas off is quite helpful (I am an amateur car racer). Since moving to FL I have stopped racing now that I have no partner - it was 8hrs of standing around by myself in the heat and making no progress. When I had a partner we could discuss the differnent lines, braking points, etc and elevate each other. Not to say I won't shoot a round solo, just haven't yet.

Anything over about 100yards. Go 8 jillion handicap!

Crandon Golf Course in Key Biscayne (Miami, FL area) - it's CC quality and has been used on the Senior tour a bunch of times. Greens are stupid fast and heavily contoured making for some tough putting. Balls much off the fairway are OOB and lost to the Mangrove or Water Gods. Very scenic with views of Miami across the water and tons of wildlife including huge iguanas. Price is ~$30-60.

Pulled from their website. I think they do look at those factors ;)

Poor Matt, I think he was a better player than Kevin or Benoit. All of them really struggled with the slow greens though which surprised me after the first hole or two. Still not digging how they do eliminations and would prefer more time devoted to the shots but still an enjoyable show. Wish they would rerun past seasons or get them on Netflix.
-
Depends where I go - the local 9 we've been going to recently I have only lost 1-2 in three visits and that's due to rough where the balls sits way down and you just can't see it. Another nearby place is like infinite ball loss :D It has dense Mangrove trees on all sides and water hazards on several holes. One hole I just start by taking the drop... I have no handicap yet, I just started!

odyssey XG vs White steel, your take ?
Icehawk replied to Andaluzian's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I prefer the WS model personally although they don't quite offer the model I'd like (2ball with black stripe). The all plastic insert felt funny to me, very soft - having played a course with PGA-like greens though it might have been handy there. -
First season watching it, wish I could find the other seasons somewhere (TGC just has 2min snippets). I like it but I they bulk up the show with a LOT of BS 20sec interviews - let's just see some GOLF! I didn't like the way the elimination went - Anthony may have choked seriously under pressure but I do think he is a better player than a few guys who have almost no points and are safe. Not sure I understand the thinking other than trying to stir stuff up. My votes at this point are the same as everyone else - Hiroshi or James look like the guys to beat.
-
They don't actually make the club I want, I own an Odyssey White Steel Two Ball but I wish it had markings on the White Hot model (it has a center line painted on it missing on the WS). I keep thinking about doing it myself carefully... Ok, and the dream club would be that club but with a Yes! face on it. And maybe it could magically transform into a long putter when I wanted too? :D

Three, a 50, 56, and 60. I'm a beginner but I hit my wedges pretty good most of the time.

Miami is year round, it's just brutal (but much cheaper) during the summer months though.
-
The last time I was at my local 9 hole where the average shot is into the next fairway I see a guy hook a shot terribly and hear an "OW!" from behind some trees two fairways over. Heh, I think he hit someone :D When we were leaving I heard the guy talking about it.

What make of grips do you use?
Icehawk replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Any one using the Iomics? I saw one or two posts about them and they sound very nice, if pricey. -
Wish I didn't need gloves but without doing manual labor my hands just aren't calloused enough. Also with the weather here in Miami you get so sweaty you need the extra grip - I actually use two gloves. What a PITA.

Miami Florida courses I have played
Icehawk replied to Icehawk's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Regarding Crandon, weekdays after 10am it's $30ea w/GPS cart during the summer. Of course it was 90deg out with 100% humidity... Have you been to Melreese? I've heard good things about it. -
Anna but I would love a little more chest action, ya know? I'm equal opportunity however so no one is getting kicked out of my imaginary bed.
-
I'm a total beginner so... Crandon Park - on Biscayne Island. Wow, this sucker only costs $30 w/cart right now during the summer and the place is almost like a country club. Very nicely kept course which has featured in the past on the Seniors tour I believe. Greens are stupidly fast and heavily contoured for a serious challenge on every hole, fairways have medium length rough but it is Bermuda and the ball will sit down and can be very hard to hit. Water hazards on several holes and many holes are lined with Mangrove trees making even a smallish slice OOB and lost. I liked the course but at my skill level this was just too much. It's also fairly windy at times adding to the challenge. Prepare for Iguanas and beautiful birds at many holes as well as some nice vistas of Miami, the scenery here is awesome. I'll be back! Greynolds - wow, CHEAP summer deal! $19 for TWO players with cart - only 9 holes but it is a standard course layout with one monster par 5. The course is in OK condition overall, fairways were in vgc when I was there but some greens were not as nice although all were fine to play on. Much easier overall with no water hazards and little chance of losing a ball. Overall a great little 9 hole if you don't have a lot of time or are newer to the game and don't want to expense/challenge of some of the other area courses. Windy when I was there too. I'd advise finishing a weekday round by 5pm so as to avoid the after work rush. Biltmore - haven't played here but took a lesson last week onsite and I'd bet this is a top notch joint when it's in season. Way outta my price range though at $140 a round!

How can the Playgrounds forum become more active?
Icehawk replied to a topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I'm going to add the two courses I have played recently :) -
Is this working? I tried the link but it did not work correctly for me. Are there other good sites for meeting local players?
-
Huh, I love the sound of the big Nike - both times I was at the range there was someone wailing one of those. Sure gets your attention.

To bring this back up - I'm going to be in Savannah mid Nov with time on my hands. Any suggestions for an inexpensive (

Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball SRT
Icehawk replied to Cleveland Gunmetal's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Whoa, glad I read this thread - did not realize that was a poker chip in my headcover, thought it was a non-working magnet or something. I did not like the white hot face, it just sounded crappy and felt too soft. I went with a white steel which gives back that sound I expect and has a bit firmer feel. Ideally I would have taken a Yes! face and married it to my 2 Ball though.
