Thing about a concession is, it has to be offered before it can be accepted. Also, what did she 'pull' exactly? Is not conceding a short putt... On the 17th hole... Of a major tournament... When the match A/S a crime?

This is exactly what leaves a bad taste in my mouth about this whole situation. For a game that prides itself so strongly on the integrity of it's rules and the application thereof, I am utterly unable to fathom how the player(s) sticking to the rules are the ones being vilified here. EDIT: I should clarify that be 'here', I mean in the general media kerfuffle surrounding this situation, not on this forum specifically.

Hull and her caddie walk off over towards Pettersen. Pettersens caddie is standing beside the two american caddies and Lincicome. In fact, you can see him watching Lee, as she approaches the ball to scoop it up, then glance over at Pettersen as if to say "Was that conceeded? I don't think so..."
-
And again, it's just what I've heard said. I never claimed to have any info, or to be 'in the know'. In other words, no, I'm not going to go trawling through every article, comment and forum post I've read over the last 3 days to provide a link.

Regarding whether it 'should' have been given or not, it's worth noting that the concession of a putt is entirely at the discretion of ones competitor(s). If you and i are engaged in a matchplay situation I can give you a 40 foot putt, and then make you putt a 2" one the next hole. There is no 'should'. It's quite a common tactic to give your opponent 2' putts all day till you get down to the last couple of holes and it's tight, then make them putt one when they haven't had a look at a short putt all day.

I've heard it said from several different sources that this was the 3rd time in the round Lee had picked up early without concession.
-
It looks like Pettersen is at the side of the green, but there's no video that actually explicitly shows where she is standing or what she was actually doing. The interview that the referee gave actually indicates that Pettersen was on the green when Lee scooped the putt. He says (I'm paraphrasing) 'Hull and Pettersen came walking over toward me where I was standing at the edge of the green'. The indication being that they were both still on the green. here we go, I found the link: http://www.golfchannel.com/media/referee-dan-maselli-comments-controversy-17/

None whatsoever.

Could not agree more.

Speaknig of Daly, on the European tour coverage once (can't remember when) they were demonstrating just how fast Quiros' transition is in a side-by-side with John Daly. Started both swings at the same time and Quiros had hit the ball and was half way to his finish before Daly had finished his backswing :P Alvaro is one of my favourite players. So exciting to watch.

Yes, it's the indian, not the arrow, so to speak. I could also kill someone with a screwdriver, but a screwdriver is invented to screw, and un-scrwe things. A gun is invented to kill things. I think there should have to be a reason for owning a gun, whether it's for sport, or target shooting, or whatever. But, imo, there is no need, whatsoever, to own an assult rifle, unless you're in the military or something of that ilk. Now, I'm quite sure the mods don't want this thread turned into a gun ownership debate thread. So I'll leave it at this. Public opinion toward gun owenership rights is, in my opinion, the single biggest difference between the American mentality and the (most of)European mentality. Neither side can fathom why the other side is pro/against gun ownership and neither side is ever going to change in the forseeable future. Gun ownership is too ingrained into the American sense of self right and to try and take it away from you would be result in, potentially, alot of bloodshead. And alot of Europeans just can't see how a criminal being able to freely buy a firearm can be a good thing.

Sevens is such an entertaining format. I for one would love to see it in the olympics.

What exactly is the need for such a weapon?

There is no way that a professional golfer of any calibre would go out for a round on any course that any non professional golfer would consider standard and shoot anything worse than 6-7 under par. Even playing from your back tees, which are probably shorter than, or as long as, what they play on a typical tour course. EDIT; The hysterical lol-ing is at two things: 1. The fact that you think Michelle Wie couldn't beat your foursome and, 2. The fact that you think all of your fourball can hit "well over 300"
-
Hahaha, lawl! Oh wait. You were serious? What I can't stand in the Wie haters. I mean loads of people write her off as a failure, a has been, when in reality she isn't even 20 yet (I think) and is only mid-way through her first season of full membership on the LPGA. Give the girl a break, for crying out loud.

I'm going to go with Federer's 14 majors as the more impressive. Federer equals the all time record in his sport and Tiger hasn't yet. As for the "Federer only has one opponent at a time, while Tiger has 100+". No, he doesn't. Tiger may have others playing at the same time, but they aren't playing against each other (unless it was matchplay); they are all playing the course and seeing who does the best job of it.

how good do you have to be to used forged?
geezer replied to sasquatcho69's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
How do you scientifically test 'feel', then? I'm not saying you're wrong or right (nor am I), but my understanding is that feel is something different for each person. -

If there were absolutley no difference whatsoever, then the companies wouldn't be making forged (more expensive to manufacture) clubs instead of cast (cheaper to manufacture) clubs, would they? Some would argue that a forged club has more consistency in the structure of the grain than a cast club, which leaves small pockets of air in the clubhead. Personally, I think that the material of construction has more to do with it, but I would definately debate the assumption that there is absolutley no difference between a forged and a cast club. I agree with all the rest of what you said, though ;) Some will tell you that forged clubs offer a softer, more consistent feel. In general, the smaller the cavity, tha lesser the forgiveness and the greater the workability -

How the club is made has little to no effect on how forgiving the club is. More important is the style of clubhead. That is to say, you can play a forged cavity back which will be as forgiving as a cast, similar styled model. Or you can play a cast blade which will be just as forgiving as a forged, similarly bladed model. Whatever gives you the most confidence to hit it close is the right model for you, whatever way it is made, or whatever style of clubhead it is. Try the irons and if you like them, fair enough, forget about whether other people think that they are "too good" for you as a player or not. Just my 2 cents. -
I play, and absolutely love, Fallout 3! I haven't got any of the DLC's yet because I play on PS3, so we don't even get Operation: Anchorage until late june '09...

He's 19. How can you say he'll never be as good a putter as Tiger, so early in his career?
-
Wow, just... wow. It's sad to see that not everyone in the game of golf is a gentelmanly as the likes of Phil Mickelson, Angel Cabrera and co. fans, and Garcia included. You call Sergio a 'punk' for his behaviour and despise him for it, but then threaten to (and do) heckle him when he plays near you. Isn't that just slghtly hypocritical? I realise Garcia is a brat in front of the cameras, but that doesn't mean he is like that all the time. Maybe he is just nervous in front of cameras and messes up alot? I don't know him personally, do you? Whats the big deal with the spit in the cup incident anyway? I still don't get it... Golfers are afraid to pick a ball up when it *may* have saliva on it (the bottom of a cup is full of slats, so there actually being any spit on a ball is highly unlikely), but they will happily pick up a ball covered in goodness only knows how many chemicals and fertilisers the course is lathered in.

What does age have to do with this? I'll bet you're over 25 and look down on those younger than you and think yourself more intelligent than them. Having a big army (just like using big font size) does not give immunity to idiocy.
-
Who is Gretzky? *looks him up* Oh, so he's a retired dude. Well, C.Ronaldo is like 24 years old, so comparing his career to a person who is finished theirs is not valid. Besides which, hockey is not really a world sport on the same level as soccer.

I'm actually already past caring about the new looks. I do agree that they were better looking (overall) last year, but I'm glad tosee the back of the little aerodynamic flutes and upswept channels in the bodywork. The only part of the cars this year that I don't like is the front wing (with the size of those things a front wing change is bound to take an eternity now). As for the diffuser, it'll probably only take the likes of Ferrari and co. a few races to develop one of their own, now that they know that sort of thing is legal.
