Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
badfish74 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Cleveland Classic #6 mallet putter Bag Boy Express 3 wheel cart. Ogio Kingpin cart bag Tour Sticks alignment rods 2 dozen Srixon Q-Star whites First three I ordered from Rockbottom and the last two from GlobalGolf. About $250 for all that ,so I am quite happy. Add the Nike dura soft glove and replacement spikes for my footjoys I got at Wal-Mart, and upgrading my GolfLogix app, I think I have spent enough money for the time being. lol -
Just ordered 2 dozen from Global Golf. Got them for $21.99 per dozen. Hope to put them in play this weekend. This is my first Srixon purchase. Been playing the Nike PD Soft, but heard good things about Srixon balls and wanted to give them a shot.

Can you have lots of lag and still flip?
badfish74 replied to nevets88's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I was using the whole "don't swing with your arms" theory and it just wasn't working for me. When I consciously initiated by downswing by using my weight shift my arms seemed like they were trailing behind quite a bit which I believe was killing my distance because I never felt that complete turn through the ball. The last few balls I had at the range changed my thoughts and started initiating my downswing by swinging my arms and hands down on the same plane and the next shot with my 3 wood was about 240 right down the middle. I finished the bucket out and had good results and also later hitting into my net at home. It feels to me like when I get those arms and hands down on that plane my body is automatically moving in the right direction and getting my weight forward. It's been feeling really good is all I know, but I am aware that many times that don't mean squat. LOL -
Swing Coach Calling Out Haney and Leadbetter
badfish74 replied to stocktrader24's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
So you have to feel Jesus during the swing instead of screaming his name after it? Interesting concept. -
What you pay for is the the security of a manufacturer standing behind their product 100% I don't care if it costs $1 to make that club. I would rather give my hard earned money to them than to some greasy criminals who not only steal designs and names from companies, but our money by pedaling fake garbage.
-
Are you swinging on plane? I am notorious for that big sweeping slice where it starts off looking good and just makes a right hand turn, not only with the driver, but all my clubs. I have been working on staying on plane and the other day at the range I did not hit a single shot like that. My misses to the right were all pushed that way which for me is a marked improvement.

Stage Fright and suggestions to over come it?
badfish74 replied to MbolicGolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Doesn't really sound like stage fright. Perhaps you are trying to be perfect because people are watching you, and in trying to be perfect you are throwing yourself out of sorts? I know I have heard professionals in a lot of sports talk about how when they are in the moment everything sort of disappears. They block out all the extra crap around them and are focused on what they are trying to achieve. -
The Biggest Secret? Slide Your Hips
badfish74 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I like this video that reinforced the slow takeaway for me. It was so much easier for myself at least to get in a good position and be able to repeat it. Once I did that I added the hip slide that is talked about here.- 949 replies

TaylorMade's New R11S Driver and Fairway Woods
badfish74 replied to mvmac's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Personally I love the name Rocketballz. Kinda brings out the inner Beavis and Butthead in me. Really though if it is that much longer I would think it could be called Sally and would still wind up in bags everywhere. -
Just think of how good of players the caddies on tour alone are, and they carry bags for a living. The people we watch play sports on TV all have a little something extra that goes beyond just working hard. It is OK to set your goals high though, but do it because you love it, not because you want to live in a 7 mil mansion like Phil. If you have that little something, it will come out, if not well this game can still take you to great places and make you a very good living.

The Biggest Secret? Slide Your Hips
badfish74 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What I do to eliminate that is to make sure on my back swing my head stays directly over the ball. If it does then I know my hips haven't moved back. Also your back swing may be too fast which is pulling your body back. Remember that back swing speed has nothing to do with how far the ball flies. Try practicing with back swings that feel painfully slow concentrating on finding a rhythm that keeps your body under control.- 949 replies

All Golf Clubs made in China?
badfish74 replied to PuttPutt's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was actually kinda surprised when my Taylormade Burner 3 wood arrived and the sticker said it was made in Vietnam. -
The problem when it comes to chipping and putting for me is that it is really hard to find a place to practice. When I play I will always hit the putting green for at least ten minutes before I tee off, but there really is nowhere to just go and put balls and chip. One range has a green but it is carpet on top of concrete and they don't allow chipping. I practice contact with chips into the net though, so hopefully that pays off. I told my buddy that this season we should become early bird players so that we can take time to practice the short game without having to worry about holding people up.

I would have to agree with this in terms of the high handicapper. As one myself I have been working to really learning and understanding the golf swing after years of just duffing around , and even though the swing that has been emerging isn't S&T; by the numbers, the drills and instruction contained in this thread has helped tremendously in my learning. The forward weight drills alone I would recommend to any beginning golfer. They did wonders for me in just the feeling alone of a correct impact position.

Sweetspot On Irons, Where The Good Players Hit It
badfish74 replied to Zeph's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I just got in from hitting about 50 shots in my garage with my 8 iron and the ball marks on the face where at the same height as these pics. Obviously they were not as concentrated on the sweet spot as Tiger's, but I was making great contact and seeing these pics assures me I am making contact at the right point. Also shows that the work I have been putting in the last couple of months may be paying off in regards to my ball striking. Even though this is an old thread thanks to the thread starter for posting the pics. -
Been entered, but just saw this thread. WINNING! Hopefully.

I get what your saying about the pro's Lucius. I guess when really looking at them it is hard to compare them when talking about equipment. I also understand the prices for the latest name brand stuff. I can't afford that stuff either, but for the same price of a GigaGolf driver I got an 09 Taylormade. My whole set is name brand and I paid less than what some people pay for irons alone. I will admit though that I tend to find comfort in dealing with name brand companies for stuff like this. I have had enough off brand clubheads going farther down the fairway than my ball to last a lifetime. LOL
-
I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing that if a GigaGolf driver or other club was the difference for a pro to say win The Masters, they wouldn't have it in their bag in a heartbeat. I know they, like everybody else, like money, but those guys are also super competitive and love to win.

Want Golf Lessons, but don't want to spend money
badfish74 replied to jswang519's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
How much do they charge for a 1/2 hour video lesson? At least with that you have something you can take with you and review when you practice. Everything in this game is expensive. It is up to you to determine if you feel the lessons offered are worth it. You are not going to get a pro to teach you for free. -
I just bought a Taylormade Rescue 11 18* off of Ebay from a private seller who is a PGA pro at a country club. 100% legit for $71. There are good deals on Ebay but with anything be careful and investigate if it seems to good to be true. There are fakes out there.

How much is your golf set worth?
badfish74 replied to billysandy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Back in November I started totally replacing my entire bag after playing the last few years with cheopo Wal-Mart sticks. Through Black Friday sales and Ebay I have kept it fairly affordable. Driver: Taylormade Burner 09 $100 3 Wood: still shopping 18* Hybrid: Taylormade Rescue 11 $71 Cleveland LDI 21* $50 Irons: Adams RPM3 4-GW $250 SW: Nike VR 56* $50 So around $520 so far and most like to add another $90 on that since Rock Bottom Golf has the Burner 3 Wood right now for that. I am also keeping the putter from the old set because I still kinda like it. :) -
Purchasing golf clubs on the Internet
badfish74 replied to 853277's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ok so my new Taylormade rescue just arrived and I am happy to say that everything checks out. Serial matches up and is in the correct spot, no cosmetic differences from the pics on Taylomade's site or from ones I have seen at pro shops, and had the original Taylormade sticker on the shaft that has been on every Taylormade I have seen in the stores. even used my iPhone to scan the bar code and that exact club is what came up on my screen. I think I am safe. So yeah, not every "to good to be true" deal on Ebay is a scam I guess. -
Purchasing golf clubs on the Internet
badfish74 replied to 853277's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just purchased a new Taylormade 11 rescue 18* off of Ebay from a private seller. I won't get into what I payed, but let's just say it is well below what you would pay to carry it out of Dicks or another golf retailer. Now of course the price raised a red flag, but a a little research alleviated some worries and I went ahead with the purchase. One was that I found through a Google search of the seller is that they are a PGA pro who works at a country club, and the locations match. Second they did not have multiple listings of the same club which is said to be a big giveaway. Of course the club could still be a fake, but for the price and the info I had, I felt I could afford to take the chance, plus Paypal is very good at getting you back your cash if there is a dispute. I'll post an update once I recieve the club. I guess what I am trying to say is don't immediately jump to conclusions if the price is low, but don't be afraid to ask questions. -
Working on consistency by using a nice relaxed back swing and concentrating on getting my hands to the ball first on the downswing. Trying to get the sensation of dragging the leading edge of my left hand along the ground before impact. Seems it is working hitting the ball into the net. Hopefully I will get some range time in this week in the unusually mild weather coming up.

Actually I think I was doing it wrong. I was over strengthening the grip. I have been using a more neutral position the last few garage practice sessions and think I found a position that is growing on me. Seems my contact has been pretty consistent too.
