  1. Going for the green on a real narrow 287 uphill par 4, my first drive was errant and my playing companions said "better hit another". So I did and we watched it go up torwards the green. After a quick look for my original tee shot to no avail, my companions played their approches to the green and we walked up - I was half a foot away for a tap in par. Best part is i got a all the skins leading up to that hole because the two other guys who played it safe and hit the green in regulation 3-putted!
  2. It is 100% true. Non-traditional swing thoughts aside, it's the only proper way to grip the golf club because it's the only way that permits both hands to work together which in turn makes it easier to consistently square the clubface at impact. Mind you there are variations (overlapping, interlocking, ten finger) but in every case the pocket formed by the right hand should cover that left thumb. You don't see the pros' left thumbs showing like you do so many amateurs, do you?
  3. Nice round. I think you need to cut down on the number of double bogeys. 4 is about twice as many as someone who plays in the low to mid 80s usually makes. Also, if you can make your goal for every round to have 32 putts or under that would help too.
  4. I respectfully disagree. Other golfing greats (Palmer, Casper, Player, Miller, Trevino, Ballesterios and Watson) put constant pressure on Nicklaus and he more often then not came out on top. Tiger has fallen in head to head battles with the likes of Rich Beem, Zach Johnson and Anjel Cabrera. Look at a tape of the 86' Masters - Nicklaus made everything - and then look at a tape of Tiger in this year's Masters or U.S. Open where he didn't make anything. Tiger is a great frontrunner and bully, but he rarely wins the close ones like Jack did. I think Tiger will surpass Jack eventually as the greatest player of all-time, but certainly he has a long road to go to prove he's better than Jack when another player applies the pressure.
  5. I shot 72 twice. The latest was 6 years ago on vacation in Las Vegas at Desert Pines Golf Club (70.4, 122). It was in the middle of the summer with no one on the course, we had GPS in the cart and played in 2:45 as a twosome. I had 4 birdies that day but bogeyed the last hole by going bold for the birdie in an attempt to get 1 under par 70.
  6. No matter where you place the left thumb on the shaft, your right hand must cover it the exact same way; that is your left thumb must be snugly fitted into the little pocket formed by your right palm. The right hand must always move with and cover the left thumb in the same manner every time wherever the left thumb resides on the shaft.
  7. Kapalua Plantation in HI. The Rio Secco and former Desert Inn courses in NV were nice too.
  8. It's simply a matter of personal preference; an issue of what looks and works best for you. I personally have always used a blade putter and my favorite is the Ping Zing or anything that looks like it.
  9. I think after grip, stance and alignment (the fundamentals) nothing else should matter to the average golfer unless they can play or practice almost every day. The point of the golf swing is to get the club squared at impact. If you keep your body stress free through and with the proper setup and grip, then however you best can transfer your weight back and back down and through is what you should go with.
  10. The best advice I ever got from a pro was that the arms should always remain passive in the swing, which is done with your body. You simply turn your body away from the ball and then turn it back and through with the arms remaining as passive as possible. Over the top moves that cause things like shanks and slices are because the player is doing the opposite; that is, he's concentrating on swinging the arms first and foremost, which can be death for the golf swing.
  11. Tour rookie Anthony Kim has a great swing. He has great mechanics and a fundamentally sound swing that's simple and effective. I always thought Ernie Els' swing was nice for the same simplicity and economy of motion.
  12. Certified Public Accountant
  13. Called me out? Whew! I'm sorry I even brought it up. You didn't get the point; an analogy if I may: it's like the people who say things about athletes (baseball, footaball, etc...) being soft, babies, injury prone, etc... when it always seems those people never actually played the game. You definitely missed that point because you accused me of being a Natalie Gulbis groupie when my personal picks for hottest would be Suzanne Pettersen and Erica Blasberg. It's just that I felt to say Natalie Gulbis is not hot at all out all because she works on her appearance is a bit delusional and smells of resentment. PS - I just love people who make a mountain out of a mole hill and then say it's no big deal.
  14. You missed the point entirely, so you're not even worth getting into this with. I suggest that you relax an stop labeling people.
  15. People who say things like "Natalie Gulbis is high school hot as in not hot at all" obviously never got any in high school. I feel bad that they've only been exposed to women after they have put on the freshman fifteen (or fifty). No wonder Brittney LinciCOW's name came up. Face it, Gulbis is hot hot. Just because you can't score someone like Natalie is no reason to trash her.
