  1. It really is terrible. Why they can't sign with the Golf Channel to take the mornings up to CBS coverage is beyond me. So dumb.
  2. I totally agree with you and I was also really angry (still am) that the NHLPA blew up the realignment plan that was in place for some political move with regard to the CBA. I really hope they go back to the plan they had, because I thought it was perfect. No offense, but I absolutely hate being in the Northwest. Not necessarily because of the teams we play, but more because of how much MN is forced to travel to different time zones for every division opponent. Plus none of the teams we play would be considered natural rivals. The realignment they had almost looked like the old Norris.
  3. A good friend of mine is like this and it drives me nuts. I've played some really poor rounds with him and I know part of the reason for it is because I felt so rushed. One of the last times we went out I finally had enough and told him to relax, slow down, and enjoy the day.
  4. I seriously think this thread just changed my life. Quote: Their right knee pushes towards the target, rolling the right foot on the instep, not lifting up on the toe as early. Especially the above part. It seems that has really helped me get the hips moving correctly. THANKS!
  5. The fact he has your right index finger barely on the club seems strange. Maybe he's trying to build on something with your grip and plans to re-introduce the index finger later on with regard to lag pressure? In the grip section of Hogan's Five Lessons, he talks about keeping the right thumb and index finger off the club while swinging/hitting just when the golfer is starting out, so he can get used to the pressure in the right hand grip of the middle and ring finger.
  6. This is something that I've recently started working on, the mental approach. I'm reading Zen Golf by Dr. Joseph Parent and so far it's been a big help. I haven't done, nor will I do, all the exercises that Dr. Parent writes about, such as deep breathing and meditation, but the book has helped me to understand what was causing my temper tantrums in the first place. Obviously, really bad golf shots were the cause of my temper issues, but the cause of those really bad golf shots had a lot to do with poor focus on my shot and what I was trying to accomplish. He's also given me tools so that when bad shots happen (believe me, they still happen) I can shake it off and move on. Just yesterday, I played my best round of the year (90, so as you can see I'm a high handicapper), but I probably played my best mental game in about 3-4 years. It's still a work in progress, but as of now I feel very good about this part of my game going forward.
  7. so far my rounds this year have gone 100, 94, 94. Shot a 90 today in the worst weather I've played in so far this year; 25 mph winds and 40* (actual air temp). 3, 3 putts away from an 87.
  8. I played a course last weekend where half the holes on the practice green were like this. Pretty cool
  9. Getting my shoulders steeper seems to have helped me make a much better, on plane backswing. I was hitting the ball with more consistency and distance today.
  10. As I said in the thread, I'd been working on getting my shoulders steeper, but it didn't really click until today. I believe I've had on of those "a ha, that's what it's supposed to feel like" moments. Next time I practice I'm going to take some video, I think the difference will be pretty striking. No wonder my left shoulder has been sore after golf for 4 years. Will post video when I can.
  11. no tips, just wanted to say congrats! pretty jealous over here.
  12. So I purchased the X6 Groove tool. I'm not sure this thing is legal or perhaps I over did it? I only used it on one of my wedges and took it to the range. This wedge is now grabbing the ball so much that it's taking pieces of the cover off the ball. Granted these are old range balls, but still...wow, never had a club do that.
  13. Minnesota Wild are my team. Quite the epic/historic collapse this season. Leading the NHL on December 17th, now out of the playoffs and no chance of making it. No team has ever lead the NHL in December and not made the playoffs. Epic. Be happy you're not a fan of my team dude, they're unwatchable.
  14. Sounds like a good reason to visit! Most of the courses that are opening aren't in the Twin Cities proper, but in the surrounding suburbs/nearby cities. Here's the most up to date list, which is growing fast: http://www.mngolf.org/open_courses
  15. I never really kept track of stats, but I plan to this season. I made some stat sheets on excel that I'll take with me to the course to pencil in as I go. I'm planning on compiling the stats that I collect in some sort of log book. Should be interesting to see how things progress (or not) during the season.
  16. I believe it was Sugar Ray Leonard that claimed to have a 15 handicap. That guy looks like someone that has never swung a club in his life. Feherty is awesome, loved the Russell interview. I've never watched one of his interviews and left thinking it was bad.
  17. where are you at in Wisconsin? Some courses are opening next week in the Twin Cities. good to hear you got out to play sportsnut! I can't wait.
  18. I've heard that some courses are opening up next week in the Twin Cities (MN). This one claims to be opening next Tuesday, but they also posted this video on youtube on the 6th LOL, that snow better get melting. Regardless, the weather forecast is for very warm temps starting on Saturday, so courses will be opening early here. pumped!
  19. The pro I worked with during that session talked about that issue as well (video is about 2 months old). It's something I've gotten better at not doing since this lesson, but every now and then that old habit comes back. I went back to the dome today and was hitting the ball really well, obviously it's impossible to tell my distances in there, but my trajectories were a lot better than what I was hitting on that monitor yesterday. Again, I think my swing was just off yesterday, balloning a lot of shots, swaying instead of getting a full turn. Sounds like some courses will be opening up in about week here in MN, pretty pumped to get out there. Thanks again, for the help!
  20. If I keep my shoulders steeper that would help me hit more down and through the ball, correct? Yeah, I see that regarding evolvr. There's a highly regarded pro here in my town that provides one on one service for a bit more than the cost of evolvr. His service gives 1 45min lesson and 2 15min supervised practice sessions per month from May-September, plus I would pay on a per/month basis. Pretty sure I'll be signing up for that this spring.
  21. Like I said, this video was taken by a golf pro during a lesson. The fact that my shoulders were flat on the backswing was the major issue she identified in my swing, and I've been working on it. The more I think about it, the more I think my swing was just off yesterday when I was on the monitor. I think I was swaying a bit instead of getting a full turn. This might account for the fact that I was getting launch angles between 13-16 even with a driver loft of 8.5. Hopefully I'll be able to get a decent camera in the future, because it's nice to get the feedback from you guys. Thanks for the evolvr suggestion, I didn't know about that service.
  22. thanks for the tips and advice I've posted my swing over at the appropriate forum, here's the link: http://thesandtrap.com/t/56168/my-swing-shamus#post_686301
  23. I'm posting my swing video, because it was suggested that I do so in the "instruction/playing tips" forum. My major issue is distance, which is why I asked for help in the other forum. Here is a link to that thread: http://thesandtrap.com/t/56161/why-is-my-clubhead-speed-so-low Basically, I'm trying to understand why my clubhead speed is so low and trying to increase it without sacrificing accuracy. This is the only video I have. It was sent to me by a pro that recorded my swing during a lesson. One obvious thing that sticks out too me when watching myself is I may have a bit of an overswing and my tempo seems really fast.
  24. Good god, I went to store to try out a Titleist 910 driver today just because I was curious since I've hitting the same driver for 6 years. Now, I've always struggled with distance and accuracy, but I've been hitting balls all winter at a golf dome to keep my swing up and I've been hitting well (accurate) all winter. I've never known my clubhead speed, but always suspected it was low. According to their launch monitor I was between 83-85 mph, ball speed of around 120-125 and ball spin of 4500-5000!? How do I bump this up into at least the 90's and lower ball spin?
  25. If they would use actual instead of faux color the program would be better. Pretty bad production, I found it annoying to watch.
