  1. I played yesterday and shot a 71 on a par 70, I can live with that.. HOWEVER I played against my buddy who I always play against. Me and him are close he is a little better only becuase he plays 4-5 times a week and I play once a week. HE HAD THE BEST ROUND I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!! I didn't even think he was that low but he shot a 64! BUT THAT ISN"T EVEN THE AMAZING PART... He shot a 64 with 2 O.B.'s! 4 penalty stokes and still shoots 6 under. Needless to say I owed him some money at the end of the round.
  2. didn't Phil give his tickets away?? I like JB's 355 yard drive on the playoff hole.
  3. Wow this is a funny post. Put down the ganja Ganjagolfer you are losing too many brain cells . I think it is getting VERY difficult to say Jack was/is better then Tiger. I think everyweek he plays Tiger is making this a non argument. I also think the technology is a non issue. I think if you want to use that, then you have to bring up the lack of good players Jack had compared to whats on tour now. Anyone out there can win. That wasn't the case years ago.
  4. I already posted in this thread how fast I became scratch (a little less then 3 years after starting play). Anyhow after the military and a +2 HCP I decided to try the club pro route. Let me tell you I was a dime a dozen. I would say a +2 HCP is NOT emough to play the little tours around here (Florida). I would say the minumum is a +4. When I went to take the Players Abiltiy test for the PGA program I had not played golf for 4 months (stuck in the Pro Shop) I went out and had no driver and shot 74 and 73 never seeing the course before (6500ish yards). This was 10 years ago. I got burned out on the Assist Pro job in 2 1/2 years. $18000 a year salary to work 60-70 hours a week is not worth it. Also I felt like a grounded kid. I would look out the pro shop window and see all the other people playing golf while I was grounded inside to work. Anyways I got so burned out I quit golf for 5 years. I have just re dedicated myself and am having more trouble getting my game back then I thought. I got the handicap down to a 1 but the last 3 rounds were mid 80's. I NEVER used to shoot in the 80's. So before anyone go's out and quits their day jobs, it is not all fun and games. IT becomes work. Most pros don't touch clubs more then they have too, and most PGA pros at the Local course play once or twice a week max. I will repeat the old saying from I believe it was LEE Triveno, "if you can't go to 4 different courses on any day and shoot 65 you would not have a chance on the Pro tour"
  5. I think Tiger will end up being the greatest without a doubt. However what I think is interesting is the survey results. WOULD have been WAY different if the question was asked 5-6 years ago. I remember talk of this years ago and the news and mag guys laughed at such a thing as someone breaking Jack's major record.
  6. anyone that doesn't at least browse Ebay for the club they are looking for is crazy. Like I said before being left handed it is the best place for us IMO. I was just browsing and picked up a Titleist 904f for $39, NEVER USED. I like the club and wanted a 5 wood just to have. I found a 904F five wood NEVER USED and was the only bid..... BOUGHT IT FOR $5 I LOVE EBAY... Like I said before Retails have to put more lefty stuff in for me to start buying there again. If I don't like the club, I throw it back on ebay and sell it for 90-100% of what I bought it for.. I have had great expierences with Global golf. The items are usually in better shape then advertised and shipping is usaully 2-4 days.
  7. I am getting to the point to where I ONLY buy or shop on ebay. Being a better player and LEFT handed it really sucks to go to retail shops and have a tiny section in the corner for me. I have got so fed up with driving to Edwin Watts (2 stores within 20 miles) and Golfsmith that I shop on ebay, buy the club try it out and turn around and sell it on ebay if I don't like it. At most I lose $10-20 and hit the club for a few days. As far as I am concerned it is the best way for a lefty. LISTEN UP RETAIL there is more lefties out there then you want to carry clubs for.... I am getting to hate the retail stores. STOP LEFTY DISCRIMINATION!!!
  8. I play 4 times a month. Play on Saturday morning. My short game seems to be getting worse and worse every week too.
  9. I did like to see Freddy. ALSO I really liked the swing speed charts they were using. I would like to see that used more. I love that stuff. They showed the speeds and averages of the tour players and I have the average tour player swing speeds and distances. Just have to find a way to knock aobut 5-10 more strokes of the game.... playing 4 times a month just doesn't get it done..
  10. I AM LEFT HANDED... in saying that it really SUCKS to go into a store with 500 sets of right handed clubs and go to the left handed section to find 4 sets of game improvement clubs with regular shafts, and I am talking big stores (Golfsmith and 2 Edwin watts within 20 minutes of me). So I shop allot on Ebay. I look for everything on there now. Not to mention if I want to try a club I have bought several, tried it for a week and turned around and sold the club and got almost all, if not all my money back. I recently bought a set of callaways X forged 4-pw with 3 x tour wedges and a Odyssey putter of $675. The clubs were used like twice. I ended up selling the itmes separate and making $260 profitt. I have a local shop and the owner is a friend and sells Taylor made so I get TM cheaper then ebay. But I have pretty much given up on Retail stores for left handed players clubs. I love EBAY and have NEVER been burned. I have had to shop allot lately while building my set to my liking. I am pretty much done, but still love to look at the deals.
  11. I would guess the average tour player has a +4- +6 handicap. I think Lee Triveno said it best when years ago he said if you can't go to 4 courses you have never seen before and shoot 65-66 then you have no chance on tour. There is a local guy that plays to a +4 and isn't even on the Nationwide tour.
  12. I have the TM R7 TP and could not be happier. I think these clubs are probably the est I have ever owned and I have had my share. I had bought the Callaway X forged first, but did not get the right shaft (DGs300, however played the S400 for years). I was not 100% happy with the combo so I demoed the TM r7 TP with the same shaft to compare. I could barely if any tell the difference in feel. The TM has a great feel and are extremely forgiving. I ended up selling he callaways and getting the TM and could not be happier... The irons are everything I have wanted from a club.
  13. 7.0 is the stiffest they make. The 6.5 which is what I play is equal to a DG X100. I have a 90-95 mph 6 iron swing speed and this shaft is more then enough for me. I would not recommend the 7.0 shaft. Also everyone says the Rifles play a little stiffer then the DG usually. I do LOVE my project X 6.5 though, couldn't be happier. If you play a DG s300 then look at the Rifle 5.5, MAX 6.0.
  14. it took me between 3-4 years to get to a +2 hcp which is the best I ever got. Now I am a .5 or 1 and just started playing again after a 5-6 year break. I play 4 times a month, on Saturday mornings. I try to get to the range 1-2 times a week, just because I enjoy practicing and my game is already there. Like someone else said also, he enjoys golf more than some of his better playing buddies. Getting to scratch is a HUGE sacrifice. Then when and if you get there you loose some of the enjoyment of golf, because you become so hard on yourself to shoot good scores. If I don't shoot under a 75 I used to leave the course mad. NOw I am unhappy with myself but enjoy the game again.
  15. That is the basic timeline for me. I said I don't remember ever shooting in the 100's when keeping score. As a kid I used to hit balls on the range onece a year on vaction in FLorida. But only really started playing golf at 21 yoa. I bought walmart clubs to see if I would like playing. About two months later out grew them and bought real clubs knowing I was loving golf. That is when I started keeping score and playing with people. The first guy I played with was a 6 HCP, a coworker, and I played with him everyday. So my goal was to beat him, and he kept me honest. Well no that was not a typo, before the first year was done I was beating him and I had an established HCP. However I LIVED FOR GOLF and read, studied, and breathed golf. Probably cost me my first wife (thankyou golf . Anyways it is possible to be scratch in a few years. But you have to give up ALLOT.
  16. My friend just gave me his Skycaddie because he never used it. Problem is he forgot his password to log on and download my home course. He has called Skycaddie a few times to try and get it corrected so he can sell it and keeps getting put on hold. We have been going back and forth now for a week or two. I demod the Pinseeker 1500 one day with my buddy, who oned the Skycaddie. HE LOVED it and bought it that day. He could care less about the Skycaddie. ANd I have a unit here I can do nothing with. It has been a pain to try to get this thing ready to sell because I want the Pinseeker 1500 ALSO... Laser Finder ALL THE WAY, Skycaddie has been a pain for me.
  17. I started playing golf at 21. I never shot in the 100's and only remember shooting in the 90's a couple times. I was a 7 hcp after the first 6 months to a year. A 4 after two years and a +2 my third year. BUT it took practicing everyday, and playing everyday. I was in the military so golf was actually cheap ($20 a month for membership, unlimited golf). I worked part time jobs at ranges so I could hit 500-1000 balls a day. Family and life got in the way and I quit for 5-6 years. Started playing again about 5-6 months ago and couldn't break 85. Practiced for about a month or two and am back down to about a 1, only playing 3-4 times a month. Practice is good, but bad technical practice does very little. I used to tape myself and compare to pros swings. Only ever took 1 lesson and didn't have a good experience. SHORT GAME, SHORT GAME, SHORT GAME...... I CAN'T say it enough. Chipping and putting practice is FREE but most don't do it enough. Try for a month to chip and putt for at least 30 minutes a day. I bet you knock off 5 shots the first month easy.
  18. the fastest I have ever played 18 holes is 50 minutes.. Yes that is not an error. 50 minutes for 18 holes. I shot a 74 on par 71. I was the asst pro and would close the shop and go out after the course was closed. I would take a cart and never pull the flag. Would hit a shot and start driving almost as soon as it landed. I know that is extreme but I am a FIRM believer in that golfers would score better if they played faster and did not think so much over ever shot. Line up look once at target and swing.
  19. I started playing when I was in the military and 21 yoa. I don't think I ever really had a handicap of more then 12-14. I only shot in the 90's when I started keeping score around 5-10 times, have never shot in the 100's. The twelve month after I started playing golf I was a 7 handicap. However I had a club in my hands almost all day after work. I would hit balls at the range and go home and putt in the house. I would tape golf and watch guys in slow motion to see where the club, and everything was at each part of the swing. LOVED golf and loved studying it. By the second year I was a 4, 3rd year I was a plus 2. Got out of the military and got an assistant pro job, did that for 2 years and quit for 6 years. GOLF became work and was not enjoyable anymore. Plus the pace of play was horrible (but that is a different story in itself). Just began playing again about 5 months ago. Have shot scores from 68-85. Only play 3-4 a month but am enjoying it again. My handicap at the course I keep it is a .1 instant and a 1 for the three out of 9-10 scores I have posted. I think it should be higher but it only has the three low scores. THE EASIEST AND CHEAPEST way to knock 5 strokes off your game is chip and putt 1/2 hour a day for a month. YOU have to LOVE to practice also. I like hitting balls as much as playing the game. AT one point when I was in Korea and worked part time at the Golf course, I worked nights just so I could golf more. I was hitting 500-1000 balls a day. Can't do that anymore.
  20. I love to look on line at different specs of clubs and stats, ETC. Does anyone know of some sort of website that keeps a list of clubs, shafts and flexs, etc of the tour pros. It would be cool if there was a website that you could just pick from a list of tour players and see every club in the bag and what shaft, flex, loft clubs they are using. I know GOlf digest does a Whats in the bag, but I was looking for something more. ANyone know of a site that has something like this?
  21. I went from the callaway X forged to the R7 TP. Played the cleveland TA3 for years. The R7 TP are probably the best clubs I have ever hit. I could not be more satisfied with them.
  22. I couldn't agree more. I had the X forged for a few weeks and liked them but the balance of the shaft (DGS300) club feel was way off for me. It felt like I was swinging a brick on the end of the shaft, but the swing weight was D2. THEY are one of the best looking club on the market right now. However I went and demoed a R7 TP with the X forged and the feel was so close I could not feel the difference. I ended up selling the X forged and picked up the R7 TP's and they are by far the best iron I have ever hit. They are forgiving, workable and solid. May want to look at those also. ALSO the misses on the X forged were much more damaging then the R7's and I don't have many misses. Usaully have the little dime sized scuffs on the club, but with the X forged I KNEW when it was not perfect and payed a much heavier price then with he R7's. JM .02
  23. Ram22592 I see you play Fort Jackson. I started playing golf at Shaw AFB when I was stationed there. I was a member of Fort Jackson though because that was my favorite place to play golf. I miss those two courses, two great courses. When I was a member back in 94-95 it was $20 a month for unlimited golf... MAN I MISS golf in the military..
  24. first round with brand new fitted clubs. shot 68 on par 70. I think I will like the clubs, and sticking with the Taylor Made products...
  25. 2005 ford crown vic, police car to and from work...free gas also. just traded my 2006 nissan frontier crew cab for a 2007 honda civic. Hate paying for gas. I have never owned a car longer the 1 1/2 years, But am keeping the Honda to give to my son in about 3-4 years, but he doesn't know that.
