With Harbaugh's track record, you are both probably right. I read something on either Fox Sports or ESPN predicting they will be in the NC discussion in 3 years. Given the level of mediocrity that Michigan has fallen to, that will be a tall order, especially since OSU and MSU don't look to be getting any weaker.. Considering how well the B1G did this year in the bowl games (regardless of how the NC game turns out) and adding the Harbaugh hire to the mix, it looks like the B1G is poised to finally be considered back on par with the other "power 5" conferences.

I've seen Oregon play a few times this year. Compared to Oregon, 'Bama fields a team of turtles. So making an assessment of how fast Oregon is, based on anybody but Oregon is foolish. But the real deal isn't speed, it's tempo and nobody else plays that fast. All year, the commentary has been about how you really can't appreciate their tempo until you play against it. If you watched that game, you saw FSU players sucking wind midway through the 2nd quarter. Urban can simulate all he wants, it won't be close. So yeah, OSU has to control the game speed. If they let Oregon get into their tempo, they will lose. If they control the speed of the game, they have more than a fighting chance...

I mostly agree with your assessment of this game but I am not as confident as you in their speed being on par with Oregon or them being able to match the Oregon tempo. I might be wrong but I don't think anybody can match that tempo. Nobody else has been that fast all year, so it is hard to believe anybody can be. At least not for a full game. What I do think is that Oregon will struggle to stop Jones. If those big monsters from 'Bama couldn't bring him down, I don't know as I see Oregon doing it and since this is the last game of the year, I could see Meyer feeling a little freer to run him more. But if it turns into a track meet, I think Oregon has the advantage because of how fast they play.

I agree with this but also have to say, I think OSU is better than FSU was. I will be real surprised if Oregon can hang that many on OSU. BTW, let me say, at the start of this season and for most of it, I said the B1G wasn't up to snuff. I was clearly wrong and am happy to admit it because I think it is good for college football on the whole that the B1G is back..

Still so confident??

And suddenly, OSU and (after today) the B1G are relevant again........
-
'Bama is gonna have to do a better job than they are now if they intend to win... OSU is handling them pretty well right now...
-
Well, that was ugly if you are an FSU fan....

Actually, 'Bama lost to Ole Miss.. Does that mean I think they will lose to OSU? Nope. Although I am not as sure as you seem to be.... I guess we will know by this time tomorrow night.. While I agree there is no conference rating system, the consensus has been that the SEC is (was?) somehow superior to the other conferences. The truth is, ditchparrot19 is closer to correct than most in the SEC are willing to admit. The reality is, year in and year out, the SEC has one or two great teams (typically 'Bama is one of those), a bunch of really good teams and a few bad teams. That's really not much different than most conferences. The SEC has been touted as so tough because they have had a lot of success against other conferences in the past. Thus far in this year's bowl season, it hasn't looked as dominant and the two worst defeats the conference has suffered have been teams from the SEC west. BTW, parity is what got NASCAR to the heights they have enjoyed. Just because ticket sales may be down right now is not an indication that it doesn't work or has hurt NASCAR. In fact, their model is what other racing series have attempted to copy. Considering all the changes NASCAR has made over the past few years (The Chase, changes in tracks and event dates, etc...), it is nearly impossible to lay blame for declining ticket sales on any one thing, much less the very thing that led to their unparalleled success. But that is off topic. The comments about countries is irrelevant and even farther off topic, so I am not even going to address it.

has anyone heard of or tried this putting method?
teamroper60 replied to RandyBobbitt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Ummm.... Even if you go strictly by "feel", stubbing the putter, missing the center, having the wrong putter head speed, etc... is going to result in a miss. Since the distance the feet are spread apart is based on a "feel", I am not sure how this is really any different than a guy with a "finely tuned feel for distance." Both methods rely on feels. They really on differ in how that player uses the feel. -
Not a fan of Brent Musberger but he asked a question at the start of this broadcast (Georgia Tech/Miss. St.) that is looking to be a really good question: Has the SEC been rated too high all year? To be fair, I think the real question is, has the SEC west been overrated (said because there has been a lot of commentary on how the SEC east is not as strong as the west).. Given the score from the TCU/Ole Miss game and the way this GT/Miss St game is going, one has to look seriously at that question and wonder. This doesn't mean 'Bama isn't what we think they are (we will see tomorrow) but if you look at the way TCU beat down Ole Miss and the way GT is taking it to Miss St., I think it is a fair question. I sincerely hope this is an indication that other conferences are (or have) caught up to the SEC. Parity among conferences is a good thing in college football and for the past several years, there hasn't really been much of it. After the beat down TCU put on today, I sure hope OSU comports itself well tomorrow or we are going to hear about the failings of the committee for a whole damn year, just like we used to hear how fouled up the BCS system was....

Said in response to a comment about OSU losing to Va Tech (a team that ended the regular season at 6-6) Different tune today...

Says the guy who thought Sherman marched through Alabama.... LOL Anyway, Dahmer was born in Wisconsin but from age 6 through high school (Revere), he was in Ohio... Back on topic, I truly hope Ohio State does well against Alabama. Not because I like OSU but because I would like to see the B1G be relevant again..

Congratulations!! Hopefully this is just the start of a freefall for your handicap!! -
The belly has a lie angle of 72 degrees. The standard and counterbalanced versions have a lie angle of 70 degrees. With irons a Callaway rep told me shortening them makes the lie flatter by 1 degree per half inch. Don't know if that applies equally to putters or not. Regarding the mid head on a standard length shaft, Odyssey did that at one time and called them "heavy putters" I have a Metal-X Dart heavy putter with a 35" shaft. It's what I have been using for quite a while. The extra weight makes it easier for me to keep the putter on a smooth stroke. If this isn't gonna cost you much, I would take it and consider buying a shaft for it.

heavier graphite wood shafts
teamroper60 replied to onthehunt526's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Quote: While that is true most of the time (as evidenced by the increasingly light shafts and drivers being put out on the market), it is not always the case. Once in a while I go to Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith to try out different clubs. My swing speed is always at least 5 mph faster when swinging drivers with a 70+gram shaft than when I swing the 50-60 gram versions. I used to think that was weird until I read a couple of articles that discussed this. (I tried to post links to those articles but the site wouldn't let me.) Don't know what your budget is for your shaft(s) but Matrix makes several shafts in that weight range. They are pricey though... -
Par 5, second shot. 225yds to the center of a green that slopes downhill front to back. Pin was in the back. Hit a 3 hybrid to the center and it trickled down to 2ft for an eagle. Not only my best shot of the week but my best shot ever...

Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic

I wish I knew for sure, so I could continue to duplicate it!! About the only thing I can say I was consciously working on was course management, trying to get GIR or NGIR (GIR+1), etc.. When I had a shot from a bad location/lie, I started looking for the "safe" shot to get the ball back in play and give me a shot to save par or at worst, bogey. The other thing I did was, if I was in-between clubs on an approach shot, I picked my club based on where the pin was located on the green. Front pins, I opted for the longer club, middle or back pins, the shorter one. Here are some stats from those three: first one: 57% fairways, 39% GIR, 44% GIR+1, 31 putts, 1 eagle, 1 birdie, 8 pars second one: 79% fairways, 44% GIR, 33% GIR+1, 29 putts, 3 birdies, 7 pars last one: 64% fairways, 50% GIR, 50% GIR+1, 35 putts, 10 pars The only real common denominator that stands out to me is the number 10. On each day, I played 10 holes at par or better.. (yesterday I had no doubles at all). -

4 rounds since my last post, including the past two days.. 80, 93, 80, 80. 80 is my best score ever and being able to back it up with two more gives me hope that I am finally getting somewhere.. Sadly, I can't post those rounds since we are in an off season here until sometime next year.. Changing home courses begining Jan. 1. The new course includes a par 6. It has a slightly lower CR and slope but it has always kicked my ass.. I expect my scores to creep up for a while anyway.. Wouldn't have changed but I got an opportunity to join it for half the price of the current one and it is only 6 miles further from my house.. -
My favorite tackly by Ohio State was the coach that tackled the student! LOL

This is something I think all the manufacturers would be wise to learn. Considering the number of people who get prototypes in the mail to try, it would appear Titleist makes changes to their balls just about as often as the others do but by keeping the same name, they have an advantage in that people don't have to guess what ball this year corresponds to the ball they played last..

How can I remove label glue from graphite shafts?
teamroper60 replied to WUTiger's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use the automotive adhesive remover I bought at our local NAPA. Does a great job in very short order, will not damage paint and has a ton of other uses both on cars and around the house. -
Kick X (or KickX) Tour Z Golf Balls

I asked him last week if he still had them. He said he sent them back since nobody here wanted them.. -
I saw those on a program Friday afternoon (obviously before all of this played out). The top 4 teams were Alabama, FSU, Oregon & TCU in that order.
