  1. Golf is mostly about feeling confident, so go with a club that makes you feel confident. A matching driver/3 wood won't do you a damn bit of good if you can't hit the 3-wood. If necessary just buy matching head covers . Also if you're just starting maybe looking at a 15 deg hybrid would be better than a 3-wood (easier to hit, shorter shaft, and therefore, more accurate)
  2. Driver: 529 3-wood: 220 Hybrids: 400 (200 each) Irons: 500 Wedges: 440 Putter: 300
  3. Hybrids are for cheaters eh... I think the only guy on tour who doesn't use hybrids is Tiger. Adams makes a really good hybrid set. I think you'd enjoy them more than the r7 Draws.
  4. I just retired the Burner for an 08 FT-i LCG 9.5 deg... The square head doesn't bother me, and neither do the drives straight down the fairway
  5. I hear ya. Experts in the industry say that the new 460cc drivers will get you an additional 30 yards TOTAL (including roll) over the old persimmon woods of yesteryear. The biggest advantage with todays clubs is consistency (ie you can mishit your driver and not be penalized as severely as with the persimmon woods). I guess they figured out if you can keep people in the fairway you can play faster and curse less
  6. If the stars are aligned I can get my 21° hybrid 200+ with a little roll, otherwise it's the 18°
  7. I have 2... My old Nikes I bought back in '01 and my new Reelfits (love the BOA system).
  8. I think it's very important to have some consistency in your wedges so I'd go with the Vokey. As you can see I have 4 CG12s and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
  9. I got the Project X Flighted 5.0 with my set of X-20 Tour irons... LOVE 'EM I have a driver swing speed of about 95 mph
  10. The tip that changed my golfing life came from David Leadbetter's Interactive DVD series. It may seem like common sense but I was always leaving my clubface shut at the top of my swing (caused by my bent wrist) causing a slice. I worked on it for a couple weeks and I've straightened out my drives considerably. My handicap went from a high teen to a 9.6 simply because my drives were in the fairway. It also greatly improved my long iron and 3 wood play..... Thanks DL
  11. I'm a 9.6 H.I and I lose about 1 ball a round. The course is surrounded by woods but little to no water. I've been fortunate enough thus far to keep it on the fairway or at the edge of the trees... Hopefully this post doesn't jinx me for the 08 season
  12. I have the Nike Slingshot OSS Cart bag with indi dividers as well as a Walter Hagen stand bag with indi compartments. I wanted the stand bag for walking days and for $49.95 you can't beat the WH especially with the 14 compartments. If this stand bag is going to be your one and only bag I'd recommend a nice Sun Mountain bag. They have a "hug" system bag that reduces the strain on your shoulders, but it doesn't have 14 compartments.
  13. Bushnell 1500 Slope Edition Proplay GPS FootJoy Reelfit
  14. Sounds like me... I play a 10.5* driver with a Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue shaft... supposedly it's supposed to help me get the ball up in the air... I "thought" it was working because my drives have been much better than before. However, I recently demoed an FT-i Tour w/ 9.5* loft and the drives were almost identical. I hit about 60 drives on the range with each club and I'd say my shot pattern was the same with each club. The trajectory with the 9.5 was lower, but distance wise, they were quite similiar.
  15. I tried the Sumo2 and the FT-i tour... Definitely liked the FT-i better... Although if the sound is the problem they're both about the same. The FT-i is supposed to promote a straighter ball fligh than a conventional head driver... But, if your clubface is open at impact it's still going to slice. I can say that I didn't notice a difference in shot shapes between my Burner and the FT-i tour... Sliced a couple with each..... It's all about confidence....
