Hammer has got to be one of the most fun money games I have ever played. It's kind of hard to explain but once you understand it it's not hard and it's a blast. - You basically play 2 person best ball and throw the "hammer" back and forth. - There is a new hammer on every hole. So on every tee neither team has the hammer, it must be thrown. - We normally start the hammer at $1. Every time the hammer is thrown the bet doubles ($1, $2, $4, $8, etc.) - You can refuse to accept the hammer if it is thrown to you but you lose the amount of money the hammer is at. If the hammer bet is at $32 and it gets thrown to you, you can decline it but you'll lose $32. - By accepting the hammer you now possess the hammer and the bet doubles. If you do not possess the hammer you cannot hammer. - The hammer can be thrown at anytime - Birdies double the bet - If the hole is halved you can choose whether there is a carry over or not. We play no carry overs. So for example. Team A and Team B get on the first tee. Team A throws the hammer. Team B accepts. The bet is now at $2 and Team B has the hammer. Team B decides to hammer back because Team B is just feeling confident. The bet is not at $4 and Team A has the hammer. The hammer is not thrown the rest of the hole and Team A makes a par 4 and Team B makes bogey 5. Team A wins the $4 and they move onto the next hole. The bet is back to $1 (amount won if nobody hammers) and nobody has the hammer. I also like to play 6-6-6. You play a two man best ball. You have each person in the group as your partner for 6 holes. You make each 6 holes worth so much money.

This is one many people don't do. When you're getting out of a bunker, especially green side, use your club to hit the bottom of your shoes to get the sand off the bottom. I see guys on tour do it but most amateurs do not.

Worst end to a round that you have ever experienced?
xmanhockey7 replied to trackster's topic in Golf Talk
Yeah I was probably 17 when it happened, I'm 20 now. I use it as a way to talk about horrible finishes/chokes. I've won tournaments since then. It's one of those things that was a learning experience. -

Made a quad 8 on the last hole of a 36 hole tournament to lose by one shot. Talk about choking. I was pissed about it for a solid 2 weeks. -
Titleist 910 D2 or R11 Driver
xmanhockey7 replied to Badgers4life's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I love my 910 D2. R11 would be a great driver if you don't get the stock shaft. The Diamana Kai'li is a great shaft that comes with no up charge on the Titleist. -
Titleist Mens AP1 Irons vs Ping i15 irons

You can get it that way if you order it through any place that will put in the order. -

I work at a golf academy in Indiana with a golf course across the street. Today I got a call from a guy who said his daughter had the lie angle on this clubs adjusted by a place in Ft. Wayne and that he thought they had screwed them up. He wanted me to take a look. I said sure and he was at the academy in about an hour. At first I thought it was probably some guy who wasn't very good and was trying to blame the clubs for it. When he walked in I had a feeling that this was someone who may not be blaming the clubs. The guy had a beautiful set of Mizuno MP-59s with C-Taper KBS shafts. Once I got to talking to him I realized that he was a serious player who knew what he was talking about. He said he wanted the shorter irons about 1/2 degree upright from what Mizuno sends them and in the longer irons a full degree upright. The only problem with the people who did his clubs before was instead of making the clubs upright they made them flat!!!!! And not only that instead of just making them a degree flat they were making them 3 degrees flat. He even called them and told them that by taking the lie angle from 61 to 59 they were flattening it but they assured him that was making the clubs upright. And not only did they make the clubs flat they also strengthened them. I asked him if that's what he wanted and he said no but they did it anyway. I absolutely cannot believe this place honestly thought they were making this guys clubs upright. Of course this is assuming this guy was telling the truth but why wouldn't he tell the truth? I ended up having to bend his 4 iron about 4 degrees upright and weaken the thing from 22* to the stock 24*. The moral of this story is don't just trust anyone with your clubs!

Help with my driver distance
xmanhockey7 replied to mbrodeur86's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The problem with places that use an indoor launch monitor is they tend not to be very accurate and they can boost the distance on them for when you hit their clubs. To increase smash factor you need to start hitting the center of the club face. I'd suggest lessons or possibly cutting down your driver. -
Great post. I'm in the PGM program at Ferris State and am just this summer really getting into instruction. I've found just about everything you said to be so true and I can see some of the things that lay ahead for me as I learn more about teaching and the golf swing.

Good! I personally think the current 910H sucks.

Help with my driver distance
xmanhockey7 replied to mbrodeur86's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What did they use to track these numbers. And based on your smash factor I'd say that's why you don't hit your driver well (basically not making solid contact with the ball). -
Figure out how far you hit each wedge a certain distance with a 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 swing. I'd also suggest saying away from 25-60 yard shots. They get delicate and tricky (for me at least). If you're on a par 5 lay up to a stop that isn't inside 80 yards. Or if it's a short par 4 do the same.

Get to the point where you consistently shoot under par on a course that is over 7,000 yards and we'll talk about playing some mini tours.

Going from high hdcp irons to low hdcp irons
xmanhockey7 replied to Dr. Slice's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't really think so. -
For me I typically play up if the other guys in the group are playing the middle tees. One time I played the lady tees because it was obvious the woman I was playing with felt like she was slowing us down by waiting on her to hit after we had hit. I typically play the tips at the course I work at because I normally play with one of my bosses who are all pros. Wednesday I'm playing the next tees up with a girl who works at the course but she's pretty good player. Hits her drives 240-250 with roll and normally shoots around par from the tees up from the tips.

Been working hard on my swing and it's been getting better. My problem has been I have a lot of "vertical movement" in my swing. It allows me to hit the ball high but I have inconsistencies and have trouble hitting the ball low. Well today the guy I've been working with my swing on is having me make a pretty big change to my swing. To keep it simple I'm changing my sequence in my swing and working on getting my wrists into a better position coming into the ball to allow me to make a more "horizontal movement". While working on this I hit many thin shots, one I completely topped about 10 feet, and another I actually missed completely. What I'm trying to get at here is that sometimes it gets worse before it gets better (sadly). I realize this change is going to take me awhile to get down but I know if I practice it enough it's going to allow me to hit the ball more consistently and further. ETA: I'm not a horrible player. Like my "handicap index" says I'm a 4-5. I'm in the 70s fairly consistently.

Are irons always only sold in sets?
xmanhockey7 replied to lhrocker's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
^ Pretty much. I think it's a great way to go. If you're a 13 handicap you could get Titleist AP2s for your 7-PW and 3-6 AP1s. That gives you forgiveness in the less lofted clubs and more feel in the shorter ones. Just an example.
