  2. I recently had a half day free so visited Trump Turnberry on the west coast of Scotland. The course is fabulous by all accounts with an amazing history. I walked to the lighthouse for a coffee (awful) and cake (awfuller) that cost 7 pounds. The staff were all mostly friendly and helpful except the starter who told me I couldn’t walk out to the lighthouse via the old track and had to take a long detour. Didn’t worry me too much but turns out what he said was nonsense; Scotland has a right to roam law. The clubhouse is gauche: full of marble, gold, glass and brightly lit. According to friends that were regular visitors the whole place has been trumped. The proshop was eye-wateringly expensive. I posted a photo of my visit on FB and immediately got shit from friends who assumed I’d played there. Had to assure them I did no such thing. I’d play here but only after exhausting all other local possibilities. And I’d keep it secret. (I couldn’t find a Time magazine with the fake Trump front cover on display, plenty of other Trumpesque tooting his own horn)
  3. Neither of us got a decent line on his second shot but ball was well away from green (par 4)..
  4. Hi all playing friendly but competitive stableford game. Opponent hits second shot and when we get to green it's missing. Both have a good look but it's not there. Opponent returns and hits provisional. I keep looking but zip. Ww finish the hole. Not sure if we got to 5 minutes. Not that relevant to this issue. Go to next tee and find ball. Opponent wants to play it. I say no. Harsh?
  5. Won a Garmin S20 and found a watch way better than a clip on the bag model (Bushnell NEO) that I'd been using. works well except only does front-middle-back, no hazards. the clip on charger is a bit clunky and no surprise, broke pretty quick, so had to buy another. Now the battery won't last a full round. I charge it to full, switch off and put in with my golf kit, and two days later when I switch on I find the battery at half. Pretty crap. A friend has the same and he has battery problems and a breaking strap. I won't buy again. a mate has a Microsoft Band 2 with golf app. Seemed pretty sweet but saw it used for just a few holes (ball to the forehead foreshortened the round!). It does some very intuitive stuff like counting your shots, but not your practice swings, and you can faff about with the data later on and get distances, etc. Am tempted to try the Microsoft, or just get a Bushnell watch. Their NEO was faultless and lasted 5/6 rounds which I felt was a reasonable standard to expect. Listening Garmin? the Apple Watch just seems expensive, although I realise it does a bunch of other stuff.
  6. I'll add to the DZ question from natureboy, is the DZ obligatory or simply another option?
  7. Ok, I see now what you and he are/were talking about. It was a slight dogleg left, so going away from hole from POE would indeed put me into the ladies tee box area. I was missing that. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hi Dave that would put me further into the hazard (swamp). my opponent was clearly indicating i could come back to a raised area (near the ladies' tee). I think we're crossing wires. I'm talking about the classic regular (yellow) hazard rule that lets you come back from POE away from hole being applied to a red (lateral) hazard.
  9. Hit a tee shot left down into a red lateral hazard. Went to drop in that area and an opponent told me the rules for a hazard had been changed and that I could come back from my point of entry as far as I wanted (as if it were a yellow hazard). News to me! Is this true?
  10. Ecco Have many others and I always grab the Eccos.
  11. Has anyone tried either of these, or both? Especially interested in anyone in Western Europe (not a dig at the US, but my experience with Bushnell, Garmin, etc. is that some are great in the US but course accuracy is questionable in Europe, Australia, etc.). Thx
  12. News reports that Trump Turnberry has lost The Open due to his controversial remarks. i am thrilled that this shit stirring, racist, sexist, bottom feeder is getting a kick right where it will hurt the most.
  13. Drop the ad hominem bs. BS is an English term meaning... I'm sure you've heard it before.
  14. McKellan 18? do you mean Macallan 18? In which case, excellent choice.
  15. I'm looking for a decent golf game to help me develop my course management skills. I have tried a few but they seem to be more about pure entertainment and selling you new clubs, just like the real thing. The best I've found so far is WGT which works well on an iPad. Does anyone else have any recommendations?
  16. That sounds interesting. What's that?
  17. So sand and dirt are not loose impediments off the green? Doesn't seem at all intuitive to me, but then no reason the rules should be! Thx.
  18. 'May or must'. So it looks like a DZ could be obligatory if the committee decides, apart from retaking the shot from the original spot?
  19. I thought I made that clear, I'll try again: There is a drop zone.
  20. I always took for granted that even if I was off the green, I was allowed to removed loose debris from my line of putt. A pretty knowledgeable friend tells me I am not, only when one the green, and he'd been penalised in a comp for doing so. Can anyone clarify? Thanks
  21. Let's say you have a DZ next to a yellow or red area and my ball inevitably goes into the hazard. Is the DZ obligatory or is it one of my several options? Thx
  22. I joined a gym 7 months ago and have been through a similar problem to you. I'm doing lots of reps of light weights, working on core strength, general tone and fitness, and doing stretching. The stretching is not new and I have a routine based on yoga/Pilates, although I am doing more of it. I found that with the reawakening of many muscles (that's the best way I can describe it), my strength has changed and my swing often collapses for days at a time. So far I just plough on and avoid heavy weights or anything akin to bulking up, and practice a lot. I wish I had a solution for you beyond common sense. Good luck.
  23. Surely there are games these days that are more sofisticated than that?
  24. Hi all. I'm looking for a good game I can play on an iPad that will help me think about course management.mhave tried a few but most seem to be simply a game, rather than anything that might help train. Currently trying WGT but feel there must be better out there. Thanks.
