  1. I am partial to the Mizuno MP 32 blades because I have used them for so long. But as I get older playability has caused me to lean toward the Ping CB irons, specifically the i5's.
  2. I am 54 so I grew up at age 9 playing with blades, the Power Bilt Scotch blades, for those old enough to recall. Then I got a set of Ping Eye 2's years later. I played with them for several years, before going back to blades. This time I got a set of Mizuno MP32's. Definitely muscle back. I played with them throughout my 40's and into my 50's before just very recently changing back to a set of Ping i5's. Blades will definitely give you instant feedback. There is not another feeling like hitting a bladed iron solid. Mishits are another story. Lost distance and vibration. It is a personal preference, but most mid handicappers and above would probably do better with a more forgiving club. I hope you enjoy your blades. I still have both sets of mine and will take them to the course from time to time, but I will probably stick with the i5's for now.
  3. Under pressure this is my default bad swing. Thanks for the tip. I will use it.
  4. I have purchased and sold golf items on EBay. When buying I will only buy if the seller is at or very near 100% feedback and quickly answers questions about the item. The better the description the better I feel also. I recently just bought a new G5 driver for $158.50 so good deals are out there. The seller gave the Ping SN, etc. It is very much a buyer beware deal. EBay has come a long way in preventing bad sellers, but you still have to do your homework. A note about golf items. When a newer version hits the streets the prior version's hit EBay like crazy. The more listings the better the deals.
  5. Speaking of crazy deals. I just bid and won a new (wrap still on the head) Ping G5 9* driver Aldila NV65 for $158.50. Seller said he had to describe it as used to sell it, but the club had never been hit.
  6. I second that suggestion of reading the manufacturer's specs though I have never had the need to use an XS shaft I cannot offer any recommendations. The ones mentioned above is a good start.
  7. ^^No, I like the Hogs ok, but I am huge University of Kentucky fan. I transplanted to AR from Kentucky in 1973. The DG S300 produces a nice low to mid trajectory for me which I like. The ZZ65 does ok, except they are much lighter in shaft weight than I am used to and have a slightly higher trajectory. Some of it may be the club head itself. I am not certain of the lofts of the MP32 blades vs the Ping i5 as to whether one is stronger than the other for a given iron. I will be changing grips (came with the Ping Aqua grip) and getting the lie changed before I can make an honest evaluation. I still love the MP32 blades but as I am getting older (54) I want something that gives me a little more forgiveness on mis-hits. The i5's are very nice in that regard. Anyway, it is good to have a second set around the house.
  8. Thanks for the tip. This will give me something to work on this winter. Maybe this old dog can still learn new tricks. Everyone wants to lower their handicap regardless of what it is.
  9. "I'm pretty much decided to get Nickent's 3DX Pro." Have you actually hit any balls with these clubs vs the clubs that your pro used for the club fit? You didn't post your handicap, so I am guessing you are just getting started in golf or at least starting to get serious about it. Getting a club fit from your pro is a great first step which a lot of people fail to do. If you like the looks of the clubs I would at least test drive a club even if it is indoors before dropping some $$$. Clubs are a personal taste kinda thing. If you feel comfortable with the club fit and like the clubs go for it. Good luck.
  10. 2 pair of Footjoy Dryjoys both with a nice pair of shoe trees. I will use one for practice and the other for play. The one for play will always be the newer of the 2 pair.
  11. I have played with Mizuno MP32's for years with DG S300 shafts. I bought a set of Ping i5's on EBay that come with the stock ZZ65 shafts. The trajectory is a little higher than my MP 32 with the S300 and feels a little less stiff. I guess my question to those of you who use Ping irons what effect would changing from a stock Ping zz65 shaft to the S300 would have on the i5's? I am going to call Ping to ask them also. EDIT to note: Ping said the ZZ65 was lighter than the S300 (109 vs 124g), but the stiffness and bend point were the same. I guess I am used to the heavier shaft. I could have the ZZ65's reshafted with the Cushin Insert to get it a little heavier. Any comments?
  12. I mark 3 black dots to the right of the number and below the ball logo. Hard habit to change and afraid now it may jinx me if I change it.
  13. Tiger, Arnie, Jack, Tom Watson with Arnie hitting from the Senior tees.
  14. I was an Arnie man during Jack's time so I am a Tiger fan. Jack was great, but Tiger has an all around better game.
  15. A newbie here. I have read reveiws on this site, but decided to become a member. I work as an Account Service Manager for a public electric utility. I am an electrical engineer by degree.
