Your Irons, Do you prefer Steel or Graphite?
GatorCallaway replied to Goonsidious's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I prefer the weight and strength of steel. I know the graphite is extremely strong, possibly more than steel. My old set of X-14s have them and I was always worried I'd hit down on the ball with a short iron too hard and hit a rock or something under ground and break the shaft. It was something that was in the back of my mind constantly and probably affected my game. That and I never liked the "lightness" of them. -
Yup. Glad I didn't fall for this scheme.
-
Yeah me too. Never thought anything about it. I used to get tired of losing them after forgetting to put it back on so I started either putting it in my pocket or dropping it off the green next to whatever wedge I used to get on the green. I never take my gloves off to putt. Waste of time in my opinion. It doesn't feel any different to me so I leave them on. However I'm not quite cool enough to wear my shades upside down on the back of my hat.

I use an Ohio State cart bag and the only flak I catch is from Michigan fans.....sometimes. GO BUCKS!!!!! On topic: Only must haves and never forgets is my 1981 quarter with my initials stamped in it which I have used for a ball marker since the first time I set foot on a course. I've been flat broke and tempted to use it for a pop a couple times and didn't. I've gone back to a course to retrieve it after it fell out of my pocket into the seat of the cart I was using. Accidentally gave it as change to buy something but its so dark and worn from my pocket that the cashier or I notice it and do a double take.

No. And most Friday nights I get behind leagues. Must play a different brand of golf here in Ohio. I guess we all know what club to use and don't give a damn about being on tour is my best guess lmao.
-
I guess I've just never experienced this and don't understand what takes so long. And that's my point.
-
Lmao. How about Scotty Camerons?

You guys and this hurry up golf stuff is hilarious. I can play a 7500+ yard course in 4 1/2 hours. And thats with a few lost ball searches,a three or foursome, 100 shots and waiting on people. Walking too. Stop thinking about the goddamn shot and swing the club. I don't get what takes so long. I don't hurry at all and could easily do it in 4 or less.

Epic behavior. Charity brings out the best people.

I guess I should have said into the reservoir. And no this is not at the same course lol. You would however be shocked to know that the worst stuff happens at the "finer" more expensive courses. Seems to me that the cheaper the course around here, the better people treat them. Forgot to mention the porta-john knocked over at one of the "finer" courses. That was nice.

Awesome. Play em as they lie!!! I like

Some of my favorite things I've seen on the course: Guy playing with no shirt on. Cart tire marks through bunkers. Cart tire marks on green. Flag run over and embedded into green. Someone using the hole as an ashtray, ON 18 STRAIGHT HOLES!!! Chewing tobacco in the cup. Watched a guy try and do some kind of flop shot on the green. Chunked it and ran off leaving one hell of a divot. People teeing off at a water tower on a course I play sending balls into local water supply. People who decide to collect lost balls laying near water rather than play. And last but certainly not least: Watched from a distance as a guy pissed into the cup on the 18th green and threw the flag away like a javelin. Sometimes I laugh this stuff off, but this clown deserved to be beaten. And had he not ditched his cart in the lot rather than return it, we may have found him and did just that.

TopFlite Gamer v2. $20 for 12. Found one of these in the woods, used it, fell in love. Went and bought 4 dozen from Meijer for $40 Father's Day sale. Started shooting better and controlling shots. Scores came down. Gave all my Titleist, Callaways etc away. -

Not defending fakes but doesn't a certain famous putter maker steal ideas? Just saying -
Absolutely agree 100%. Once I figured out the different hand placements on the grip, I have pretty much cured my slice and the hook of a couple buddies of mine.

Rule #1 for courses with houses on them: Take governor off golf cart before play. This way when you bust a window, you can get the hell outta dodge.

A few years back my little brother (bigger in size and ugly as a caveman lol) showed up with a dozen pink breast cancer awareness balls to a little par 3 course. Now the course is very small, 18 holes laid out in about the area of 9 holes. Balls always cross into your fairway and I've almost been hit quite a few times. So I ask my brother why in the hell did he bring pink golf balls to play with. He quickly replied "because if one gets away from me and hits somebody, they'll know it couldn't have been me using pink balls". I thought that was excellent strategy. Use whatever works man, who cares. You paid to play. When they start paying you to play, then they can set the rules as far as I'm concerned. I have a 5w with a ladies flex shaft and I can't do anything but hit that joker straight. I catch a lot of flak from my buddies for using it when I do bring it to the course. But they get the standard reply, "wanna touch it?".
