  1. I have an odd question that I can't seem to find an answer on the web. I have a TaylorMade r7 SuperQuad and have been experimenting with the weights. Well, least to say after several times out on the range, I've found that my swing really benefited when I bulked up the weight a bit. If you're familiar with TaylorMade's movable weight technology, you can change the weights that screw into the head of the driver. What i've done is the following: Inside weights: 12 grams each Outside weights: 6 grams each http://www.golfclubsmentor.com/image...0superquad.jpg I've found I have a more stable swing when I put in a little bit more weight. My question is whether there is a max that I can screw in that are within USGA regulations? I'm good with the weight right now, but just wanted to make sure I was within regulations. Thanks in advance for the feedback!!!
  2. Where do you live and what do you do?
  3. I think it depends on who and where you buy the clubs from. My irons are demo clubs and I saved over 50% on them. I was hesitant like you, but because I went through Golfsmith to purchase them, I actually was in contact not only with the sales rep on the phone, but they put me in touch with the store that actually had them on-site. The rep went through the details with me and after talking to them, I was convinced to go ahead with the purchase, so I did. When I received the irons, the 6 iron had a small nick on the face and the remainder of the clubs looked they hadnt been hit at all. I've been happy since. I would do a bit of research first but dont over-analyze.
  4. I've made it a goal this year to shed extra weight and get myself into condition by losing 37 pounds so far in 3 months. I still have 15 pounds to go to get down to my goal weight of 195 pounds (i'm 6'2"). It's two fold because im training for the Chicago Marathon and trying to get more flexible for golf. I think my biggest issue is flexibility. I just feel like i'm not flexible enough. I see some big guys playing on tour who are very flexible, and i've been spending 10-15 minutes after my workout sessions strictly on flexibility by doing shoulder stretches, back stretches, hip stretches, and hamstring stretches based on what i've found on the web. The weight loss has helped a great deal as I feel I have more rotation now, but I still feel my shoulder get tight about 2/3's of the way on my back swing. When I look in the mirror, my arm and elbow start to bend right at that point, and im trying my hardest to keep it straight. I try to stretch where I can and when I can, but I still feel tight. Does anyone have any good advice, links, books, or recommendations? Thanks...
  5. Two years ago I was playing the Top Flight Freak and started to test out the Top Flight Gamer earlier last year. You'll get great distance out of the Freak and a much more controlled reaction (with a bit more spin) out of the Gamer. For $15 for a dozen, it was pretty hard to pass up. I know people are advocates of higher end balls, but those are pretty good balls. In my opinion, I made a switch to Bridgestone's e+ series in late Spring/early summer of last year. For $24 for 12 balls, you get a really good ball. Right now I mix it up. I mixed up between the e5+ and e6+ almost all of last year and was more keen on the e6+ version as there was more control when I hit. It felt a bit softer so I liked the feel of it. I can't comment on the e7+ yet because I live in Illinois so its not exactly golf season yet, but I do have a dozen of them waiting to be played with. So with that, if you're very budget concious (and who isnt these days), the Top Flite Gamer balls hold up very well. If you're looking for a better ball but not something that's going to break your bank, I would looking to the e+ series. I think they're well worth it at a modest mid 20 dollar price range...
  6. Hey Everyone, I need some expert advice and am on the verge of going to the my local golfsmith or golf galaxy but wanted to throw this out to the forum first. Right now, my set of irons have True Temper x100. Recently, while at a golf show, I was in the testing area and hit with Nike's Victory Red forged clubs that have the S300 shafts. Now in my humble opinion, forged clubs are very similar in play and dont vary much from another, as I have Taylormade forged irons. When I hit the S300's, it just felt like a smoother without much force. Now, hopefully it's just not the Victory Red's I was hitting because they felt real nice. I think it may be the shafts and I wanted to get people's takes on it. I just think the x100's are really stiff. With my current irons, I average about 160 with my 7 iron. I'm not even going to get into swing speeds right now because its been 3 months since i've really swung a club and in those 3 months, ive lost 35 pounds. I know its above 100, but I wont know how accurate until I professionally tested. If it's the clubs, then i'm gonna have a real dilemma on my hands because although ive been a non Nike fan, the Victory Red's are really some of the nicest clubs i've swung. Thanks in advance to everyone...
  7. Hey Everyone. I wanted to get some insight on the Odyssey Dual Force 330 putter. I just picked one up at a golf show today for $50. It's never been used and seemed like a good deal. I have a Nike iC Putter that I like, but Im not 100% comfortable with it. I wasnt so much in the need of a new putter, but thought this was a good deal. Insights appreciated...
  8. It's not that I dont understand his tax plan. I actually do. And I understand McCain's tax plan as well. With a new baby and wife and house to support, i've gotten very deep into politics and finances and have been reading up everything and anything I can on both candidates. With that being said, the point I was trying to make was that regardless of which person gets elected, neither of their tax plans that they are presenting at the moment would pass through congress because they'd both be scrutinized and ripped to shreds. There would be so many alterations that their tax plans would be constantly changing. Both of them are going to enter the white house in such bad shape that they wont be able to implement anything for the next couple of years. That's what I was trying to point out.
  9. Yeah, my hometown Bulls OVERPAID for Luol Deng and are not going to be good. The Bulls slogan is "See it Live!" whereas their slogan should be "Rebuilding since 1999"
  10. I can't agree or disagree with you, because even though I support Obama, I have no idea what his tax plan will do. In fact, I think I can as far as regardless of who is in office next, their tax plan they're presenting now will have to drastically change. Neither he nor McCain is really wooing the country to be honest. It's the same old stuff over and over. I personally have learned nothing new or earth shattering that compels me to say, damn, he can make change. Nothing against McCain, but he seems a bit out of touch and I am not comfortable about a President who if something occurs to him, Palin is behind him. Im all for woman if she's qualified, but this is beyond underqualified for the most powerful post in the world. I've kept a very open mind towards both candidates, and even given Palin the benefit of the doubt, but there's no comfort there whatsoever. But ease up man...we're in such a rut right now that the only place we can go is up (hopefully)...
  11. I need a bit of help here. I feel that my game has made so many strides this year as I posted my best score of 85 earlier this summer and played a respectable (at least in my mind) 93 on a championship course from the black tips measuring out over 7200 yards (Sheppard's Hollow in Michigan). This past weekend, I shoot a 51 on the front 9 and a 44 on the back 9 after not having picked up a club in 2 weeks. The inconsistency is beyond frustrating. I know for certain this all has to do with my grip. I've had a strong grip that I know is the root to my problem, and no matter how much I get comfortable with a neutral grip swinging in the mirror at home, when I get out on the course, my hands magically go back to a strong grip. My emblem on my glove doesnt face the target line, as it faces more out with the corner of my hip. I need some help. I need to know how to fix this problem. I'm ( ) this close to getting this entire game back together. I'm playing a tough course next Monday and will be on the range over the weekend to attempt to fix my issues. Any and all advice is greatly welcomed!!!
  12. Yeah, play your game at your own pace. Just because he's a +1 doesnt mean you have to try to play like him. Play your own game at your own pace and i'm sure you'll even impress yourself...
  13. So i'm thinking about getting a 2-iron. I've finally figured out how to use my 3 and 4 iron off a tee and the ground fairly consistently. I've had people suggest getting a hybrid, but I don't to. The reason for my insanity are three-fold: 1.) I want to able to hit low shot (kinda like a stinger) when it gets windy and the driver wont do, which happens about half the time around Chicago 2.) I want a club to use where i can hit a low shot if im behind a tree and dont want to necessarily pitch out 3.) I like the challenge (as if this game isnt hard enough and challenging enough) So i'm looking for suggestions. Is it worth it, not worth it? Let me know and thanks in advance...
  14. I bought a demo'd iron set of Taylormades (see my signage) for 1/2 the price because the 6 iron was nicked on the sole, and they came with upgraded grips and x100 shafts. At first, I couldnt hit with them to save my life, but in 6 months, i dont think i'd change them out because what I lack in distance compared to my old clubs, i gain in accuracy. Example, my previous iron sets were (stiff) graphite shafts. I could hit a 7 iron about 180-185 on average. With the xstiff, my 7 iron now goes 165-170. However, I'm ALOT more confident with the x100's than i am with the graphites. I just have alot more control. I have to agree with the previous poster that you're ball flight may be a bit lower, but honestly, not by much. I have friends who have graphite shafts and i can still outheight them on my normal shots. I played a round yesterday and my friend pointed out that since we last played together, 3 months ago, my game is much more fluid and consistent. The clubs forced me to play to the them, and not the other way around. I would suggest going with S300 shafts, or something similar. They'll be stiff but give you enough control. Right now im young and powerful enough that x100's are good for me. In 10 years from now, i see myself adjusting down to S300 type shafts...
  15. I'm going to tell you to go for the Taylor Made's because that's pretty much all that's in my bag, but the truth is, you need to try them both and feel the both of them out. If a store knows you're going to buy clubs, then they'll let you hit away with the clubs as long as you want till you figure it out for yourself. That's what i did, and i'm happy i did...
  16. Gentlemen! Lend me your ears!!! I too had a baby boy exactly 5 weeks ago (picture attached...that's me telling him i'm going to play a round and thats him smirkin tellin me "Right On!"). I am here to proclaim that your golf game doesnt have to suffer. I still have gotten to the range 2 times a week and have played 3 rounds since his birth (with 2 more coming this weekend on a trip to michigan this weekend). How do you ask do I pull this off? Simple... 1.) Marry a woman who's very understanding 2.) Marry a woman who likes playing golf 3.) Marry a woman who will meet you at the range with baby in tow, who sleeps alot, while each of you takes 10 swings per turn 4.) Be around friends who are married who you're wife is close to that she can go and spend "women" time while you get your "man" time If those fail, then follow the beer commerical and tell her you need to "vent" or be with a friend who needs to vent...all 18 holes worth of venting. Here's the funny thing...she wants me to play because (1) she thinks I work too hard and has no problem with me playing when i want, (2) she feels i balance my time with work, home, and my activities (working out, golf) well, and (3) she wants me to teach the youngin the game when he gets older, and in order for me to teach him, i have to play myself. He's my lil dude tho. I'd give up anything in a heartbeat for him. So basically...when it comes down to it, i got frikin lucky!!!
  17. Take this for what it is, but do not listen to anyone who isn't you. Again, do not listen to anyone who isn't you. I highly recommend listening to talk by Randy Pausch called "The Last Lecture". (May he rest in peace) Its and hour and 15 minutes long, but well worth it. Here's the link: There's one thing in there that really drilled me when I listened to it, and it's the part about brick walls. The professor says brick walls weren't created to keep everyone out, instead "Brick walls are there for a reason...they let us prove how badly we want things." I was 15 fourteen years ago and I know how people like to rain on one's dreams. Every person who's successful is in the minute. Some are born with it, while some earn it, and some mature into it. Your mom saw someone who wasnt hungry enough for it, but if you have a passion for it, then go for it. I dont know your mother, and i'm sure she's a wonderful person, but even she doesn't know what's best for you. I just had a son and I want the world for him, but I want him to do what is best for him and will let him decide when he gets your age. So, with that, if you're in the top 5% of your class and you're a good golfer, then persue both. Why not attend a college that is known for their academics and their golf (a certain Nike endorsed golfer did exactly that...excelled at golf while excelling at Stanford). Why not research and find the top 100 universities and the top 50 rated golf universities and see which ones fall within the same rankings. I can tell you Duke, Stanford, Northwestern are a few that come to mind right off the bat. Do you see where i'm getting at with this? While you're pursuing your engineering, medical, law, accounting degree (whichever is to your liking), you can learn how to really play golf at the same time and play in tournaments and practice pretty much at your own free will. Put as much time in your golf swing as you do you in your studies, and only you will figure out how far that will take you. Look a Sir Richard Branson who owns Virgin Atlatnic. The man came from little and has built an empire, but he doesnt live behind his desk. He runs all of his businesses but still lives the life he wants. So what after you graduate? Do you persue a career or golf? Again, if you have the means, then dont give up on your dream. Pose this question to yourself. You're in the top 5% of your class, meaning 95% of the rest of your class is behind you academically. Well, you're thinking on a small scale. Think on a worldly scale. Do you wanna fall back into that 95% class of everyone else who does a regular job and is just satisfied with a job and a regular check, or do you wanna still hold your 5% status? Just a question you should always ask yourself. You live once...dont live timid.
  18. Supposedly, here's a picture of the clubs: http://www.•••••••••.com/nike-vr-vic...-irons-driver/
  19. So i was on the driving range getting frustrated after three consecutive times topping the ball when i said to my myself "What the Hell!" and my cousin said to me "This game will only get easy if you go to heaven because every shot will be perfect." That got me to thinking... I think the illusion of Hell given to us by the Chruch, Mosque, and Temples are just cover-ups to what hell really is like. Satan is not a red devil-horned monster that scares us upon sight...oh no...he's quite the opposite of that. I think Hell is a lucious 18 hole golf course with perfect weather on a clear sunny, cloudless day. Satan is the guy in your twosome...in all of our twosomes dressed to the perfection. We have the perfect clubs tailored to our exact specifications. You're loose. Youre hydrated. You look like Brad Pitt and have a pre-swing that Tiger-esque. You place your tee in the ground alongside your ProV1 ball and setup perfectly. You start your backswing and man, its exactly what you saw on TV from the pros...just looks flawless. Your downswing is perfect with a pure balance of power and control. Just as your club face is about to make contact with the ball, youre knee buckles, your hands twist, your back gives out, and you shank the ball into the water 20 yards to the right. No matter how soft or hard you swing, you shank your ball 20 yards to the right in the water... Just like you do at the driving range...for eternity... And worse off, after every bad swing you just get more mad and more mad. Satan...well he tries to show you how its done and his swing is magical...constant drives to the green on a 341 yard opening hole that last 3 feet from the pin...ball after ball after ball. And everytime its your turn...shank shank shank. Everytime you tee...shank shank shank. You never leave the first hole, all the while, Satan laughs with a hollowing laugh that makes you feel () this small inside, mentally and physically. Each swing, he laughs. Each swing he hits, you cry... Welcome to Hell...
  20. I would rank them in this order, based on personal experience: 1.) Golfsmith 2.) Golfsmith in another town 3.) Golfsmith in another state 4.) Golfsmith in another country 5.) Jo Mama...
  21. You leave me no choice (too tempting not to)!!! Sorry guys, but this is a golf forum. All this talk of grip sizes, less wrist action, slim hands, large palms, blisters, and personal preference has me a bit perplexed. The most interesting line comes from Meeks7, who stated "The bigger the grip i found you have less wrist action but its all a personal feel thing." C'mon now...you left so open to comment on man. I think you guys were looking for the other site, sandtramp.com or something like that (I have no idea if that even exists and with me being work, im not gonna even try due to monitoring of the network). Hope that made ya laugh a bit
  22. I use the Taylormade rac TP Muscle Backs. Oh wait...TOUR players. Does it count if i play in my own tour? In my mind? Mind over matter right?
  23. Sergio Garcia used TaylorMade rac tp/mb blades
  24. Slap me thrice and hand me back to my momma! That story was hysterical. I have the opposite problem. My cousin is learning the game and he, for the life of him, doesnt stop asking for advice and swing tips while we're playing. You're story takes the cake though...it was pretty damn funny...
  25. I just think the Celtics are going to win it out, thats all. Maybe I dont know what on earth im talking about, or maybe i do. Thats just how i see it...
