  1. A 2 hybrid is more like 17*, at least that's what mine is and I rip that baby long right into the wind piercing.
  2. Powerbuilr citations musclebacks will separate the men from the boys.
  3. Watch shoulder alignment on more forward ball positions, your right hand is on top of the grip and that's why I say that , feel like your pushing the club back with your left hand and the clubhead should follow, your not turning your body as much as you should on the backswing. I'm not a pro so take it with a large grain but that's at least what I think I see.
  4. Handicap is a system that allows players of all abilities to compete under certain rules and the lower your number the better the player is.To obtain a 1 handicap usually takes years of practice and a reasonable amount of athleticism, players are usually proud of themselves if they reach this type of proficiency at golf.
  5. I remember seeing Payne Stewart at a practice round during the 87' us open not wearing knickers and I didn't recognize him until he was much closer, some of the color schemes were a little wild but some looked good, I think the chicago bears look was a good one as was the patriots and this from a raiders fan.
  6. Probably when you either stop raising up or squating during your backswing is when thin and fat shots become less frequent. This by far is the most common reason but may or may not be yours, go somewhere that you can get a reflection of yourself swinging a club and watch how much up and down movement you have during your swing and work on eliminating as much as possible, however try to resist making yourself too ridgid to avoid this just try and keep yourself a steady distance from the ball throughout the swing.
  7. Mclee your a fast learner, already a 1 handicap and brand new, I'm more than impressed. Just kidding though but that's an awesome goal to start with, welcome to the wonderful and sometimes cynical world of golf nuts.
  8. That is why I use a laser rangefinder
  9. Got the bushnell v2 with slope for $299.00 at golfsmith (patriot pack).
  10. I think I would go the extra mile and find out who owns this course and let them know what went down.
  11. More than likely your casting, go get a lesson.
  12. California............need I say more?
  13. I agree possible but unlikely, personally my goal this season is to get below 5, right now I'm almost there and feel I'm in pretty good position( most of my lowest rounds have happened in the past ten) to get there as long as I can get a few more good scores posted in the next couple months. I have been playing for more than 25 years and have probably hovered right at 10 or below during that time but now I'm able to take most of the summer off for 4 months or so and really dedicate myself.Next year I'm looking at getting to a 2 along with breaking 70 and lastly playing pebble for my birthday next year also.Like Buckeyenut says get into a club and get your ghin number and play by the rules, don't let yourself get frustrated if you struggle cause 10 of your worst 20 scores are tossed away anyhow, your gonna get your low scores in there once you get used to playing by the rules.Taking lessons is gonna get you there quicker than anything else.
  14. Maybe but your slope rating at 137 is still fairly high and if I remember these tees are about 500 yards shorter, I just can't believe completely that my index would go down playing from 7000+ tees and a 142 slope there is like 3 holes that are close to a stroke harder from these tees versus the next ones up.
  15. Don't do lessons weekly that is a waste of money every 2 weeks is enough time for you to digest what your being taught. I would try and book a few single llessons with 3 different pros and then pick the one you feel like you "connect" with the best this is real important. I know it sounds like your spending a little bit of money on this but in the long run it will save money and make your improvement more rapid.
  16. 81 front 38 back 43 par 72 rate 73.4 slope 137 Played a solid front side and then got on that bogey train on the back and just couldn't get off it until I birdied the 14th hole for the first time in 50+ rounds!!!!Anyways more importantly I took my first lesson in about 20 years and wow what a difference a trained eye was able to find and fix in just 1 day. I know I still have to hit a few thousand more balls before I fully reap some of the benifits but I can already tell a difference after just a few hundred balls. My iron play was so damn erratic cause I basically had a block swing instead of playing the ball more properly I always depended on some perfect timing instead of sound fundamentals, should have done this 4 months ago I think I would be close to a 3 by now.
  17. You live in SF bay area, go to Keplers in walnut creek and get fitted.
  18. 78 par 72 rate 71.8 slope 126 First time at this course, shot 41 front 37 back,2 birdies,2 doubles, The nicest part was this round was just over 3 hours long so just got to walk up and hit every shot without waiting around.
  19. Okay just got back from Stockton about an hour ago, anyways I want to thank Mike and Jessie as well The Reserve at Spanos was expecting me and there were no hang ups getting started. The course lays on the outskirts of Stockton CA adjacent to a newer housing development across the street however there are no homes bordering this course +1. This is a flat course and is very walkable, there are a couple long walks between greens and the next tee but not ridiculous. The course appears fairly new but has a decent amount of moderate size trees for the amount of wind that hits this area. Did I say wind? Well living fairly close to this area and knowing what the summer months bring I was pleasantly lucky enough to get to play this course on a calm day, usually out in the CA delta region we have heavy winds from about noontime everyday during the summer months but fall is another story all together it's like someone turns a switch off from the first of october till mid december.Anyways the course itself I found in good condition for the amount of play it probably gets during the weekends, I played with a local that said it does get crowded and the weekends and can yield some long rounds however today we pretty much had the course to ourselves and were able to finish in a little more than 3 hours. The greens rolled smooth and had a good pace to them not extremely quick but fast enough for good players but not too fast to embarrass weekend warriors. For being a flat course it had just enough variety to keep every hole as a unique experience, the only downside I could think of was the drainage collection areas alongside the greens were sometimes so darn soggy that I only tried using my 58* once to get out and that was obviously after I chunked it in this low laying wet tight lie area after that it was bump and run only, but even this is something hard to really blame the course, one has to realize Stockton is probably only a few feet above sea level so keeping a dry course is gonna be a bit of a challenge and these were the only spots that were like that the rest of the course drained beautifully.Okay grass driving range nice clubhouse inside and out, friendly staff, unfortunately no beverage cart girl but they did have a notice to let us know so no harm no foul there just not enough patrons I guess, nice newer EZ go golf carts, easy to find location, reasonable rates online (think my playing partner paid less that $25). I would recommend this course, the conditions are more than adequate, just try to avoid wind if possible the online deals are an excellent value The Reserve at Spanos is a course that all skill levels can enjoy.
  20. Under "local rules" at my home course players are allowed to drop at point of entry with a one stroke penalty if the ball gets lost in them. This is of course to speed the pace of play and I thought maybe this may become something the USGA may want to change in the rules regarding "native/grass areas".
  21. So native grasses are only recomended to courses to be declared lateral hazards,my course declares these grasses under local rules to be treated as lateral however our weekly mens club round doesn't and we get hit with stroke and distance. I wonder if the USGA will take a firmer stance on native grasses being considered lateral hazards.
  22. Sandbagging probably isn't nearly as much an issue in these so called "scramble tournaments" as much as blatant cheating is. A good portion of people who play in these things are recreational players at best meaning the clubs probably had a years worth of dust on them when they decided to go out to this thing. Some of these people just simply don't give a damn about keeping an accurate score versus getting good and liqouered up and will more than likely make rulings in their favor despite the rules of golf and it seems that that is the real contest versus shooting low scores.
  23. Smart move you may want to even go after a 6h. These are legal clubs that help players who have dificulty with long and mid irons, more people should be using them than want to admit it for some reason because they feel some sort of compromise of their prowess or something lol. Paddy Harrington won majors with a hybrid in his bag so that should make it crystal clear for the rest of us.
  24. I have played this course a few times, the 15th is an island green and of course 16 has homes fairly close down the right side.
