  1. sounds like you made out pretty well. I can't hardly talk my wife into buying me one box of pro v1's let alone six.
  2. Yep you read that right. Played a course here in ohio this summer with a par 6. Here is a link with some pics of the hole. http://www.blackdiamondgolfcourse.com/course.htm?hole=7 Pretty nice course but pretty challenging.
  3. ok here is a video I just found that kind of explains bounce. From the golf channel. your game night tips[2].asf
  4. The 200 series wedges are the standard vokey wedges and are available in three different finishes. The finishes are about preference really and don't really affect the playability of the clubs. The oil can wedges will rust over time and some say it adds a bit of spin to the ball but if you hit enough balls the face doesn't rust so I can't see how it can really make a difference. The spin milled wedges have have a little different groove and the face is cut with tiny grooves to add to the spin. Here is some info from the titleist site. I can't say wether or not the increased spin will be noticed by the average golfer but its worth a shot. Plus you can get them for around the same price. I play the spin milled wedges and wouldn't trade them for anything. The spin milled only come in the tour chrome finish. Here is an article from the sandtrap explaining bounce. http://thesandtrap.com/archives/play...ing_bounce.php I've got a used vokey oil can 256/14 that I don't use. Its got a nick in the leading edge near the hosel but it doesn't affect the playability. If you're interested I may make a donation to a golfer in need. If not there is a store here in ohio that is going out of business and they have all vokey wedges for 85 bucks. I know they had a few spinmilled but not sure what lofts. I know they had 56 degree oil cans and maybe a few of tour chrome. I think friday is their last day. I could probably pick something up for you and have it shipped out. I know thats a pretty good price right now.
  5. Here are the usga guidelines for the length of holes. Looks like agusta is going to push the limits on the par 3 lenght. "The USGA has periodically issued guidlines for the par-ratings of holes based on their lengths; i.e., if a hole is 200 yards, it is a par-3. Those guidelines have changed over the years, and the way they are used has changed, too. The current guidelines are these for men: Par 3 - Up to 250 yards Par 4 - 251 to 470 yards Par 5 - 471 yards to 690 yards Par 6 - 691 yards or more And for women: Par 3 - Up to 210 yards Par 4 - 211 to 400 yards Par 5 - 401 to 575 yards Par 6 - 575 yards or more"

    2005 NFL Season

Man I almost forgot about this thread. Can't belive that after getting the steelers fans going. Got to give credit to the steelers though they have really shown up to play the last few weeks. They cost me lunch though on the browns game. I'm in ohio so you know who I was picking. It certainly wasn't anyone from pa. I really thought the browns would hang in there and give them a game at least I mean after all they hung pretty tight with cinci. probably should have won the game but oh well its not looking good for us now. Must say if cinci has to play the steelers in the first round cinci will be packing their bags and heading home. The way the steelers are playing right now I really don't think cinci would have any chance... unless they can find a way to get big ben out of the game. Bring in Batch and they may have a sporting chance. I must say I'm amazed at how much Rothelsburger brings to the team. Well I must say I wish the steelers the best now though. That way when the browns come back and beat them next year it'll just be that much sweeter. Ha ha can't say I'm not an optimsit.
  7. Woo Hoo. I'm in Ohio and today Dec. 28th I made it out to play 9 holes. Now thats a rare occurence around here. Made it up to almost 60 today. Cost 10 bucks to walk 9. Course was not in terribly bad shape for this time of year. Was pretty damp but not soggy. Nothing plugged at least, and the greens really didn't roll too bad. Didn't have to worry about losing it in a pond today as they were all still frozen over pretty good. Only managed a 41 on a par 35. The driver was supprisingly long and straight today and the mid irons were pretty good. Here is the scorecard. Par 3's were a killer today so was number 9. It was mostly just some short game miscues that cost me though. Missed a few makeable birdie putts but made a few good par saves. Wasn't too bad for not playing in a few months though. Was just nice to get out. Supposed to rain tomorrow but may be back up to 50 and sunny on fri and I'm on vacation so I may just make it back out. Hope everyone else around the area got to take advantage of the unseasonable weather today.
  8. Hey welcome aboard. I've not been here long but its a pretty welcoming place. Seems to be some fairly knowledgeable folks around as well. Glad to see you found the site. How is the weather in Ireland this time of year. I'm in ohio so its not overly plesant here.
  9. I'm in. Never played before but I think I got a pretty good idea how it works. Looks like it should be fun.
  10. I'm looking at buying my first cameron by the end of jan. I'm not too keen on the inserts that are in the newer one though. Anyone have any feedback positive or negative aobut them. Better with or with the inserts?
  11. I've looked at those organizers before. They look pretty handy. I've considered making one out of wood though. Looking good though. I got a new bag. The sun mountain mpb carry bag. took it to the range today for its first trip out. Seems pretty good so far. We'll see once I get to carry it for 18 holes. I found a store today that has all of their vokey wedges on sale for $85 dollars each. No kidding 85 bucks. They had a few of the spin milled wedges left probably about a dozen oil can wedges and a few of the satin? ones I think. I don't really need them but for that price I may just buy me a backup set for my own christmas gift.
  12. Here is a little updated info on Barnes. "At 24, Barnes is not yet facing financial problems. He endorses Oakley, Ping, Callaway, you name it. He is tall, fit, photogenic, bursting with personality. But after contending - he finished 21st - at the '04 Masters, upon winning $78,000 in the '04 Phoenix FBR Open and teasing the golf world with his potential, he has gone surprisingly flat and has no real status on any tour. He finished 80th on the Nationwide Tour money list this year ($60,614). He sometimes went three weeks between tournaments, failing to qualify or receive an exemption. " "Barnes, also a former U.S. Amateur champion, is now 0-for-3 at Q school. After opening with an 81 at Bayonet GC in Seaside, Calif., the former Arizona All-American fought back with three-straight 70s, but finished two strokes from advancing. He should still get some Nationwide Tour chances. This year he was second on that tour in putting, fifth in all-around, and 22nd in scoring -- but 82nd on the money list." He is also listed as 61st on the australian tour order of merit earning $19,511 He has some conditional status on the nationwide tour but not full status. I bet callaway still shakes their head in disbelief over that mistake. He also signed with gaylord managment back in 2003. Callaway's year ended up with only six victories. One by olin brown, one from michael campbell, and four from phil mickelson. Thats not all that great considering they have 29 pga tour staff members. Maybe they will hit the mark with pressel. She definitely has the potential but so did many others signed by callaway.

    Possible?

Well I'm no expert but with the right amount of practice, instruction and determination I'd say you should be able to. I'm not sure of the weather situtation where you are but a quick search shows average temps that let you play all year. If thats the case then I'd think you should be able to get where you want. The biggest help for me was taking lessons. Just remember to find an instructor you like and one that can help you get where you want. Last year I probably saw about 5 different instructors before I found one I was really happy with. You're paying so make sure you get what you want.
  14. Sounds more like a swing problem than the club. If you have a too steep an angle of attack and are hitting down too much then you will definitely pop it up. Have you had success with other drivers or is this the only problematic one?
  15. Well I can definitely agree that its an illness. I think I have about 5 putters right now. Ping isopure, never compromise stubby, yes sophia, futura knock off and an old wilson blade. I have 4 sets of irons right now. Two sets of titleist 990b, wilson fatshafts and an old set of wilson 1200's with some sort of counter torque shaft or something. (full set 1, 3, 4, 5, wood 2-pw putter in an old leather bag for 25 bucks at a yard sale, I,ll never play them but hey for 25 bucks you can't go wrong.) I'm planning on getting a cameron for my birthday (end of jan.) Haven't quite settled on which one but I just love the feel of these things. Plus I'm not far from the home of cameron up at table rock golf club. They have quite a selection up there. Now if I can just talk the wife into letting me get the new titleist 735's I'll be all set.
  16. Here is a good article about tiger going back to the 975d when he was first making the switch to nike. http://www.golftoday.co.uk/news/year...3/woods46.html I'm with iacas though. If I have something of no use to me I'd rather donate it to someone who will get some good use out of it. Espically if I could only sell it for 15 bucks. The smile you'd get from some kid at the range would certainly be worth more than that 15 dollars.
  17. This should answer the previous question about frank nobilo. http://www.nobilo.com/video.php
  18. well in 04 retief goosen was the leader of the least amount of 3 putts. in 990 holes he only 3 putted 14 times. Thats pretty incredible right there. here are the 2005 pga tour stats http://www.pgatour.com/stats/leaders/r/2005/104 You could also go with the man who coined the phrase "drive for show putt for dough". Bobby Locke http://golf.about.com/od/golfersmen/p/bobby_locke.htm
  19. well it was 50 here in ohio today. Melted most of the snow off the ground today. tomorrow we may get a little rain but mon and tue its supposed to be in the upper 40's. I'm on vacation so I'll definitely be trying to get out. I've got to try out my new bag as well. I got the sun mountain mpb stand bag. Looks pretty promising. can't wait to actually try it out. Hope everyone has a very merry christmas.
  20. well last year I made it a goal to break 40 consistently in our golf league. I probably played to about an 18 to 20 handicap at the start of the year and managed to get down to about a 10 by years end. I managed to break 40 about the last 4 weeks of the league. I put in alot of work and played hard to get there. This year my goal will be to shoot at least even par in an 18 hole round. Its a lofty goal but not unattainable. Can't wait for some warm weather to get back out on the course.
  21. Sounds like a great idea. I've look quite extensively at alot of the synthetic options as well. Same as you I was a bit taken back with the prices but I guess if you look long term there sure is alot less maintaince than the real thing. Now not to feed the obsession but be sure to check out ebay. You can find alot of the same products at a discounted price.

    Golf Pencils

Well with my good friend google here are a few interesting links. http://store.greatgolfmemories.com/pencil.html http://www.golfgalaxy.com/galaxy/pro...OCLAELNFBLFNI& http://www.burchfields.com/catalog/detail1a.asp?ID=112
  23. Daly would certainly bring some excitment to the event thats for sure. Don't think he could get there in the motor home though. I think it would probably do well for the tv ratings as well. Daly's game is a bit sporatic but when he is on he'd be hard to beat. I'd love to see it.
  24. here is a great golf digest article about pavlet and long driving. http://www.golfdigest.com/instructio...eranatomy.html It would be nice to think that adding muscle would help hit it farther but thats not always true. Take a look at the top 10 in driving distance on the pga tour. 1 Scott Hend 318.9 2 Tiger Woods 316.1 3 Brett Wetterich 311.7 4 Scott Gutschewski 310.5 5 John Daly 310.1 6 Brenden Pappas 309.4 7 Hank Kuehne 307.7 8 Davis Love III 305.4 9 Kenny Perry 304.7 10 Sergio Garcia 303.5 Talk about a variety of body types. Now these guys are not popping it out there 380 or 400 yards like these long drivers but these are averages for a year. If a guy can average 315 you can't tell me he can't pop one out 350 on occasion. Also if distance were such a premium on tour why are these long drivers not out there on tour?
  25. I was glad to see paul win. Sure didn't look very convincing at the end though. Seems like he has some serious issues finishing the deal. It should be interesting to see how he can do out there on the tour.
