  1. $19.95 per map???? Wow. That's crazy. I prefer the skygolf GPS and Intelligolf Eagle Edition over this one - simply because maps are free and users upload their maps to create pretty good selection. skygolf has also 'professional maps', with more details - for 2.99 to 4.99... Paying $20 each time I'll play new course is nuts IMHO.
  2. geez Doc, is that serious? Sounds like a terminal disease to me

oh no, I love it... Very often on the course you hear me use quotes like "just keep making pars David", "a little gust there Homes" and "I can do that shot... then do it, quit f'ing around, you get this one wet and we'll disqualified", "who hit that shot ?!?" ... one of my favorite movies .
  4. that's the theory... in real life easier said than done. Draw shot is less controllable, more likely to get a big mishit if not timed correctly. You have to start simple. My instructor made me start with simply closing the stands, keeping the same line to the target (your right foot and right shoulder will end up a bit closer to the ball than with 'normal swing') and do NOT do anything unusual to the swing itself (grip, plane, etc.) You can experiment with it later, once you get hang of it. That should start you on the right path to hit a draw. Spin... oh boy. that's a tough one for a amateur. When all pro players fight the spin we all try to increase it. Why? beacuse it looks cool. The only scenario when you really, really need it is when the pin is tucked in right behind a hazard bordering the green. You need to fly it in there and stop (or back up). That's about 10% of greens you'll hit into. Focus instead on hitting correct distance and direction with adjusting for few feet of roll. This will allow you to put yourself in potential birdie position on 90% of the greens... the other 10% - oh well, you'll have to settle for a par There was a story I once heard. Allegedly Arnold Palmer (back in the 60's) was teamed up with few amateurs in a ProAm tournament. At 175yds par 3, he hit a beautiful 7 iron, which landed 5 feet past the pin and spon back to about a foot. One of the amateurs said "Mr. Palmer, could you teach me to spin the ball back like this?" Arnie asked "how long do you hit your 7iron?" He answerd "140 yards" where Arnie replied "so why they heck do you want it to spin back for?!?!"
  5. he'll need the top 25 carrer exemption. Even though he made the cut last week - he dropped to 171'st

    Sponsors

how did Mel Brooks put it in his famous "History of the World" ? IT'S GOOD TO BE THE KING I doubt he'd be told otherwise and I also doubt that any of the other sponsors would approach a rookie with request like that
  7. damn. I knew I shouldn't have turn down that invite to do the Podcast with them but hey - golf is played in foursomes, right ??? But seriously - $500 greens fee? Geez, even Pebble Beach and Pinehurst #2 don't charge that. It's sweet, but hello - as Erik pointed out - there are different things we'd look for going to play golf in Ireland. I guess I'll pass
  8. I'm a gadget-junkie... I think I just found my next christmas gift (* forwarding link to wife * )

    Why is it?

one guy at my home course ended up with the bar tab at $750... ouch. I'm glad I got mine in Florida and we were leaving for the airport right after the round 3 beers was all it cost me !
  10. 79 saturday morning... wheels came off last three holes going double-double-double - so, considering - it was a really nice, solid round up to this point It wasn't on my home course, so I can blame unknown surroundings for not finishing stronger
  11. at least the german division of their rental company. After returning the car in "off hours" - 6AM I received a month later a invoice for front bumper repair. The car was spotless when I left it. I traveled all over the world, renting everywhere and it happened TWICE - both time with national rental in germany, where I received a bogus invoice for car repair. First time I called them and after few MA (surely it wasn't PG-13) expressions they took it off. This time I'll have Amex fight it for me, I'm sick and tired of it. Brothers (and Sisters) TST golfers all over the world - please join me in official boycott of this stinking company. No more National. I'm pissed.
  12. I found it hard to do when I walk or ride a cart in the driver seat. Best are rounds with carts as passanger - plenty of time to punch in the numbers
  13. Welcome Big D. One thing - remember please, when everybody from tst.com starts asking you for invite to play the K club with you - I was first
  14. no, it's not. It's like offering a pill, for curing "All diseases". No matter what is your problem - cold, allergies, broken limb, cancer - take this pill and you'll feel great. Yeah right. Every player has different problems, which require personal approach. There is no "quick fix" or "fix it all" in golf. Save up the money and get 1 lesson at your local pro ($50 ?). You'll be much better off spending 1/2 hr with a professional than buying this.
  15. Keep stats of your shots. it's a lot of work, but it pays off. You have to be "smart" about it - don't include total mishits in the averages, etc, etc. If you really serious about it - get yourself one of the handheld gadgets with GPS and stat tracker ( example: iPaq 6315w and Intelligolf Eagle Edition ). It's GPS receiver could be used as distance measurement device (if you downloaded the the course map) or you can use it to keep track of distances for your shots. It's not top-notch accurate (depends on weather, obstructions, etc.) but you can also enter the distances manually. Once you collect enough rounds you'll be able to see something like this: http://www.rcl-consulting.com/stats.htm. Scroll down to see individual club analysis (note: I've only 4 rounds included, that's not enough. Some of the stats are a bit stupid )
  16. I bet there will be few (maybe even more than few!) people standing around when you're on the tee... just don't shank it Oh yeah - forget that crap about respect, etc. don't you DARE let your father tee off first !!!
  17. I do look through swing sequences (like Rezgolf), but stay away from tips and "fixes"... as well as from infomercials
  18. thank God he holed it out... avoided missing a putt.
  19. can't blame him. after playing like he did last couple of month I'd be avoiding confrontation with David Duval and Michelle Wie.
  20. http://sports.yahoo.golfserv.com/gdc...YAHOO&id;=41623 C'mon all Wie-haters - I want to see you bashing the playing horribly (in 2006 at least) Ernie Els now. Looks like he found "scape goat" too !
  21. great minds think alike...
  22. nah, it wasn't... at least not in " GOLF joke" forum it's a good one though, you're forgiven
  23. not too many... I switch my irons and driver at least once per season, but putters stay longer in my bag I tried : 1. Futura from Cameron - way too "busy" looking down at it, that aluminum-like sound drove me nuts too 2. Taylor Made Monza - liked the balance, but the head was too light for me. Once they came out with the adjustible weight: 3. Taylor Made Corza - love it. look, feel, balance and the fact that I could use my r7's screws and add 20g extra to it... I think it will stay in the bag for a while.
  24. it is indeed - same as Cobra Speed drivers, Cleveland HiBore, etc. You could try to alter your grip, stands, swing - but what's the point. Obviously you're squaring the face at impact just fine - and you don't need a 'anti-slice' driver. I'd look into the TP line of taylor made, titleist (is still closed, but much less) or any of the 'tour only' clubs, which are actually slightly open at set up. Could be expensive, but who told you to get that good
  25. let's see... so I've $30mil invested in the land and I want to make a good course... would I hire somebody with certified clue, or somebody off the street... hm...
