  1. I was curious to see if anyone else on this forum has faced the same issues that I've been facing with this season. Every once in a while my grip on all of my irons feels a bit off at address. I get so uncomfortable that I start to focus too much on having a comfortable grip that it creeps into my shots and shot shape. I start wondering if its my glove, my ball position, or set-up. All mental blocks that suck my confidence meter to zero at the range or on course. It's so baffling to me b/c this comes up once a week for the past 2 months and it bugs the hell out of me. Any thoughts as to why this might be happening? This has never happened to me in the past. FYI, I use a neutral, inter-locking grip and this all started happening after a recent grip replacement about 2 months ago. THANKS!
  2. I'd like to think I have a pretty consistent swing, but for some odd reason my 3 wood off the deck is like a crap shoot. Every other club in my bag I can hit with marked consistency, but my 3 wood is an entirely different story. Usually on mis-hits I know why the ball reacted the way it did and I can correct it on my next shot. The 3 wood, which I can hit around 240 yards when things go well just seems go away from me every so often. I'm talking about low worm burners, shanks, tops, hooks, etc. Maybe I just need to focus on practicing with this club more frequently, but it's starting to get a bit annoying. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what I can do to practice at the range to remedy this problem? What has worked in the past for you? Thanks!
  3. Wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were on skycaddie's soon to be released SGX model. What intrigued me was their smartclub technology where a tag is located on the grip end of each club, which is linked to your SGX gps system. Clubs left behind can notify the user that they should retrieve their club and the technology will also allow the user to log in the data to capture the the distance of each club to use without the need to manually log in your yardages. This could truly be a wonderful breakthrough for recreational golfers who don't have the ability to have on course caddies. The price is steep with a start price of $399.95 for the handheld GPS and there are no prices yet for the smartclub tags as they will be released later this year.
  4. used a golf gift certificate to hook myself up with a 20* and 23* i15 hybrids. imo, they are the best hybrids ping has ever made!
  5. i agree with wrx_junki here... i've owned a 10.5* G10 with the TFC stock stiff shaft and also a 9* prolaunch red. i found the head to be relatively high launching, which is why i went with the lower trajectory shaft. the combo is a pretty solid one if you're looking to move your ball flight a bit lower.
  6. The difference I noticed between my scotty and yes putter was that the scotty had a softer feel and the yes came off the head a bit hotter. Due to this, I use my scotty on sunny days and the yes on rainy/wet conditions. Overall, Yes putters are pretty sweet.
  7. No... you really don't. I'll take socal weather over the 4 seasons here in the D.C. area anyday.
  8. I personally think it's just good form to not take any mulligans and play by the rules. Taking an out of bound mulligan essentially puts you up for 2 strokes that you wouldn't count. Why disservice yourself from the truth?
  9. i agree with most of the folks who've replied here. if you're that inconsistent with your driver (i.e. slice-city -> OB or really bad areas with no chance to go for the green) i would tee off with your hybrid and work on your driver at the range. it would certainly help to video tape both your driver and hybrid swings to see the differences. lessons of course would shorten the time for you to get on the right track and prevent you from engraining any bad habits.
  10. Your wife is a keeper!
  11. Sinking the 20 ft putt for eagle is most impressive. Not to take anything away from your accomplishment, but I actually find that the closer putts (the kneeknockers from less than 5 feet) for eagle are harder since you SHOULD make them. Congrats though!
  12. The 70 year old man you played with is my hero. The game would be so much easier if we made things simple. But I guess it's just more fun to whack the driver off the tee on every par 4 and try to make that low probability shot.
  13. Based on my experience, the lower the handicap the faster they play the full swing shots and the slower they play the short game/putts. Vice versa for higher handicap players.
  14. I've gamed the S57's for the 2009 season and have about 50 rounds with them so far (as well as driving range sessions). Like some of the posters have said, they are cast and so they are much more durable compared to forged irons. The only thing that I would mention that wears a bit would be the milled faces, which is not so much a bad thing b/c I used to get some ridiculous backspin on my short irons in the beginning.
  15. i've gamed the s57's since the start of this year and i absolutely love them. they say it's a "players" iron, but they're just so forgiving. quite easy to shape the ball and sets up nice to my eye.
  16. I completely agree with Shindig. The e6+ is an overall great value ball, but don't expect the short game control you'd expect from premium, urethane covered balls.
  17. I don't know about you, but in my group, there's something called bragging rights and bets on the line. Think about how Tiger's game has pretty much upped the bar for everyone else on the tour. I simply asked what people's opinions were in someone improving that quickly in a matter of 3 weeks. Your kind of response simply adds ZERO value to the discussion.
  18. Just to give you all an update, I still haven't been able to get a round in with my playing partner. I really am curious to see how a guy can improve so much in a matter of 3 weeks with no formal instruction. Plus, I would have to also agree with some of the posters here that going from 100 to 90 compared to going from 85 to 75 is exponentially harder. Here's another facet to this post, my buddy has gone from 2.1 putts/hole to 1.6/hole, which is 9 strokes per round on just putting alone. The stats don't lie... it seems like his putting is where he's made up the difference. But seriously? 9 putts less per round in 3 weeks? I'll give you guys any updates once I actually play with him.
  19. Personally, if there are no bets on the round I like to give people gimmes if they ask for it. That way when money is on the line, I'll have the upper hand. Plus, casual rounds can go a few minutes faster :)
  20. I have a playing partner that played to a 10.7 hdcp 3 weeks ago. Within the past 3 weeks he has posted some unbelievable scores from what I know of his game. Based on what I've read, by rule of thumb a person should post a score to or better than his handicap in one out of every 5 rounds, however, he has posted scores that are about 10 strokes better than he usually scores in the past 8 rounds he has played. He has basically taken nearly 4 strokes off of his hdcp in the past 3 weeks. The question I have for the members of this forum is, what are the odds of this happening? I know he has not taken any lessons during this time and I also know that he has not played with anyone in our usual playing group in this stretch either to prove these scores. It almost seems improbable if you do a simple calculation of 1/5^8, which is 1/390625. I guess this is more of a rant for me to call b.s. on my playing partner and take his money the next time we play. Any thoughts?
  21. good job! keep it up and you'll be in the 80's consistently in no time.
  22. I think you need to decide what kind of flight pattern you're looking for. I personally have tried PX, PXF, and TTDG. On my S57's I was really debating between the TTDG and KBS Tour as I have heard so many good things about them. In the end, I went with what I was most comfortable with in the TTDGS300. I'm a firm believer in picking a good shaft. Why don't you test some of them out and compare your results?
  23. I occasionally battle big draws when I lean back a little at impact. I blame this on old baseball habits that sometimes creeps into my swing.
  24. I actually received this from golf galaxy earlier this year. I've tested the club out and though I would never pay for the set, it's free so I can't complain.
  25. Ian, I had same issue where nearly all of my shots had a baby fade in the apex of my ball flight. I wasn't terribly worried about it because it was actually quite easy to control. The way I see it, as long as you are hitting flush shots and your shots are manageable for the your next, then just play it as is. Golf is a game of misses, if you're "miss" is 1-3 yards right of the target then you're in a better position than most. Hope it works out for you!
