Football, Hockey, Baseball and any Martial Arts...don't know what else...
-
He only played 52 events. He skipped most amateur events, missing the Northern, Western and Eastern Opens, etc. Of course, we aren't counting Junior events.
-
I know he's overrated...kidding. I know he's a terrible tipper, so says Charles Barkley...

The difference in this case was that it wasn't as prestigious to be a professional golfer in his era. Sports weren't what they are today. He made more money as a lawyer than he would of as a golfer. I'm going out on a limb and saying if golf paid what it does today (relatively), he would have played more and won more. He said he quit because he had enough trophies, and trophies don't pay the bills (I added the last part). The guy said he'd quit in 1930 after winning the Grand Slam, and he did. The greatest accomplishment and prediction in sports history. So my argument is that he did things that no one will ever do...and he did it in a very short time, which adds to the legend.

I move my ball and, with the edge of my putter, hack a decent sized pit in the green. Actually I use whatever I find first, be it a marker or a coin.

I rate Bobby Jones as the best ever golfer. Here's a few reasons why- * He played in 52 events and won 23 of them. He won 43% of the events he played. * He played in 21 Majors and won 13 of them. He won 62% of the Majors he played. * He won the true Grand Slam. * He did this an a part-time amateur and retired at 28 years of age. * He won 13 Majors over an 8 year period. (This will never be equaled). * In an 8 year stretch of US Opens he had four wins and four runner-up finishes. (This will never be equaled). In my opinion had he played into his late 30's he would have won well over 20 Majors, possibly 25+, while playing part-time as an amateur. In his day it wasn't as prestigious to be a professional golfer. If it were and he turned pro and played a full schedule...no telling what he would have done. What say you?

Stricker has been sliding but he was a top ten machine for the last two years. If he had 2 or 3 more wins he would have reached #2 in the world. I think he got to #3 a few months back.

Golf has many stupid rules. You are better off missing the ball completely than you are hooking it into the water.

Annika Sorenstam to retire, according to Associated Press
Backspin replied to twotacosfor99cents's topic in Tour Talk
She's aready said that 2008 won't be her last event, she may play a few down the road. After she has children I'll bet she'll play several a year. Second best female golfer. I'd put Wright ahead of her, with Whitworth or Babe in 3rd. -
Els put a SW in the water. My Nephew played there twice and flew the green with a 9 iron. The next time he put a PW into heart but it bounced hard and rolled to the back fringe. He said the green has an easy spot to hit but the putt is impossible from there, to all pin locations. I'd be happy with that impossible putt but it seems the pros are taking dead aim.

Back in Lord Byron's day they 'eyed up' yardages. From what I've read they didn't take as long as today's pros do. Could you imagine how long they would take if they had to guess yardage by sight alone? We'd still be watching Master's Sunday...

Here's a few ideas to toughen up/change the PGA Tour. 1) Replace sand bunkers with long grass bunkers. Sand is simple, long and whispy grass isn't. 2) Change the driver length to a maximum of 44". 3) Cut the club count to 12. 4) No caddies. Carry it on your own, think on your own. Kidding here... 5) Putt it out. Stop marking two footers, put it in. 6) Have uneven tee boxes like we deal with at the Muni's!!! Kidding here...again. Not really. 7) Change the slow play rule. Instead of penalizing the group, yank the guy who is slow. Change to time limit as well. They take way too long. 8) Limit corporate logo's!!! Is this NASCAR??? Eventually there will be logo's painted on the greens..."Tiger is aiming at the first 'P' in Pepsi, it should break about 2 feet the 'E'"... 9) Ditch the belly/long putter. The driver length is limited, why not the other clubs? 10) Have beer cart girls. :) What say you?

I'm somewhat kidding with the money part, which is why I led the next paragraph with 'a serious note'. My point is that it won't matter scorewise, like I said. They'll adjust the game, as you mentioned, to still score. Whether it's allowing for more roll, or however they do it.

American TV coverage of the PGA Tour stinks in general, IMO. I prefer the European coverage. Much less hype and BS and you never hear 'Get in the hole!' hollered by some fool. The Masters coverage is the worst. I don't want to hear poetry, I want to watch golf...

Just relax and you'll be fine. I played my first event about 10 years ago and on the second hole I had about 6 inches to the cup for a par. I swatted it away like I was playing with friends. Ooops...

I think Tiger has +10 on his home course. Remember, you should shoot 3 shots higher than your handicap. That means Tiger shoots 65 on his home course...

It depends on what you mean by 'making it on tour'. Making it and staying on it are two different things. Perks won a big event and made alot of money. I would say he 'made it'. The better you are, the easier it becomes. You have private jets, your choice of caddies, more money & personal asssistants to handle tedious affairs. The top guys paid their dues, obviously, and the rewards are also advantages.

A combo of everything. Skill, luck, opportunity...you name it. My nephew is a +4 and he plays once a week and lives in a Northern climate, so his rounds are limited by weather, not too mention finances. How good would he be if he had a chance to play 2-3 times a week all year long? How good would he be with a coach? You have to have it all to be a touring pro. Skills, course access, luck, perseverance...all of it.

Yeah, ban the irons so everyone will have to go buy new irons identical to their favorite pro. Eventually they will increase the club limit to 15-16 so we can all carry (buy) more clubs. :) On a serious note, it makes no difference to a pro. Just play for a bit more release on the greens. The scores won't change a bit.

I agree, ugly but deadly. I brought my old one out late last year for one round and I caught a lot of flack for it...:)

I love the Nickent hybrids, solid clubs. What about the rest of their stuff? I've only tried the hybrids.
-
I've heard that from others. A friend used the Exotics and thought they better than his Taylormade's.
-
Many times I debate on which irons to use, the Mizuno's or TA's. You will love them. If you take cost into consideration I would rate the TA's higher.
-
What would you say is the most underrated golf equipment you've ever used? It could be a club, ball, whatever. Something you thought performed at a high level but doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I would say the Tommy Armour Silver Scot cavity back irons are the most underrated clubs I've ever used. Of all the irons I've played I rate them a #2 behind Mizuno's MP-32's. They are very forgiving, have a great feel and are set-up well with the Precision Rifle shafts. Plus, the price is pretty low. I don't understand why these irons aren't more popular. My runner-up is the Top-Flite Strata Tour ball. Great performing ball and a low price. I think the name Top-Flite gave it no chance, however... What say you?

Wilson's Ci6's are the best mid-handicapper irons out there. I played one round with them on vacation and was very surprised at how they performed. Excellent iron. Cheap, too...
