  1. Not liking losing doesn't make you a bad loser. He clearly wants to be successful, and probably too much so that he has failed to deliver. Passion is not a bad thing - in the structure of a Ryder Cup team he seems to be able to direct that positively, on his own he doesn't - look at K Club 4/4 points then the only European player to lose in singles
  2. You ask two questions Launch Monitors have different settings - you can adjust altitude, temperature and wind direction - all can distort results. Custom Fit - worth every penny/cent if you can get someone reliable in terms of judgement and interpretation as well as club building. It has to be done in person - Launch Monitor numbers are only part of the story.
  3. GP Tour Velvet - soft, tacky and wash well. I change them every spring.
  4. Vokey wedges - grinds done by Bob Vokey - just the best craftsman in golf. Although I have been lucky, very lucky, I would recommend having someone grind wedges for you - different conditions, courses, grasses etc can make a huge difference.
  5. Scott - huge talent, wonderful swing lack of application. He was asked in Qatar (he won with a closing 61). "What is your favourite club?" Answer "Golf or Night?" Garcia - huge talent, great shotmaker, lack of confidence. If Garcia won a major it may help him, if Scotty won a major - what a party!!
  6. At golf clubs! A number of Pros (Els, Darren Clarke, McGinley, Howell, Bjorn etc.) in UK are members at Queenwood, Surrey UK - it is very private, has great facilities. Some play and practice at Sunningdale and that is not untypical in the UK - most have an association with a club. I am sure that in the US they must be members of private members clubs - didn't Woods used to practice at Isleworth along with the other guys who live there.
  7. I am lucky enough to have a genuine Tour Cameron - Newport in charcoal mist finish. It is incredibly well balanced, has great feel and most importantly I trust it. I am sure technology works but in my mind if you trust the putter you make more centre hits and don't need the technology.

  9. Golf is fortunately unpredictable enough that you just made a brave but not unreasonable call. However what is certain is that TW will work really hard to bring the right game to the US Open. He may well have used the Buick to try the things he thinks he will need come June. He will probably make the time to return to the course before that week also. Could his driving affect his ability to win there? Of course Will he try to minimise that threat? Of course Will you really bet against him? .....
  10. I think tiger relies on moving the ball with the driver too much to switch to a square. Few of the courses they play would enable him to just hit hit straight - the fairway is shaped and that is what he is after to be in optimal position. Golf is a risk/reward sport - and Tiger is pretty good at scrambling. He can afford to take the risks in order to gain the rewards. There is little doubt that his weakness is driving - it is the one stat that he in behind the tour average on. However he follows the belief of anyone in a performance driven market that he works just as hard on his strengths and his does on eliminating his weaknesses.
  11. Walk and carry, sorry to say but that's the way the game was invented. Caddies are great if the game really matters or if you have the chance to play one of the world's great courses and can benefit from their local knowledge.
  12. Melissa Reid from England - great game, great potential and great looks.
  13. Big improvement on their first release. Seem to be far more consistent, a lot more feel and feedback but also improved performance. I believe that the TM staffers who were 'forced' to switch are much happier with the improved balls. Black and Red also offer a greater alternative to each other than first time around. TM seem to have invested in their own patents and technology which can only be good for the ball market in general.
  14. No Is he struggling with his confidence - for sure. He has a huge amount of talent, a very natural game and despite 6 months out has stayed in the Top 5. He also plays tournaments where they are fewer ranking points on offer. The simple fact that people think he has suffered so much because of the dominance of Woods is evidence enough of what he has brought to the game. Whether he will get the piece of luck in a Major to break through the mental block that seems to weigh of his shoulders is another thing. Great man, great golfer and still lots of personality.
  15. They are different - the Nationwide Tour is a feeder for the PGA Tour - a wealthy group of golfers who follow the weather throughout the US. Dominated by corporate life and a showcase for a particular format of golf. European Tour is far more diverse - in terms of geography, quality of courses and the financing of the game. It has its own stars, money is comparative at times, ranking points only occasionally Golf wouldn't have the money it has if it wasn't for the US Tours, it wouldn't have the reach around the globe if it wasn't for the European Tour(s). We need both for the game to continue to grow and should embrace both There is no mileage in the constant comparison - enjoy the game for what it is, for you and for a great variety of people.
