I don't think lack of speed is necessarily a negative. However, if you don't have good closing speed, you have to be in the right positions at all times. For example, Per Mertesacker, who plays for Arsenal and Germany, is typically the slowest player on the field. However, his positional awareness is superb, so he doesn't have to cover ground as quickly. If the US back line can play smart and as a unit, I think we can defend well against most teams we'll play. I'm more concerned about teams like Portugal and Germany that are technically sound, have great movement off the ball, and play a quick, one-touch passing game, a la Barca.

If Germany gets rolling, they'll be hard to stop. I definitely hope they get a chance to play Brazil. If they both win their groups, then they'll play in the semi-finals. If one wins their group and the other finishes second, they would meet in the finals (assuming they both make it there). I think other teams to watch are Italy, Netherlands, and Spain. I think the dark horses that can throw a wrench in everything are Switzerland, Belgium, and Croatia. I think the USMNT will struggle, just because we seem to have a lack of consistent attacking options. Julian Green could be an interesting addition if he makes the team, but he basically has zero senior international experience. I also think the teams we'll play in the group are tough match ups. Germany and Portugal are extremely efficient, technically sound attacking sides, and Ghana is fast and powerful. I expect Germany to run the table, which means we will likely have to at least win one match and draw another. Losing to either Portugal or Ghana might mean elimination unless we can get a draw against Germany.

After the 2010 WC, I predicted that it would be Germany and Brazil in the finals of the 2014 WC. I haven't seen anything to make me think otherwise. FWIW, here are the groups. We definitely have the most difficult road out of the group stage.

Those guys would be so far back after 54 holes that Tiger would never have to come from behind to win.

I think Oakley lenses are wildly overrated. Both Costa del Mar and Maui Jim are light years ahead in lens quality. That being said, as long as the sunglasses are comfortable and don't interfere with your swing, I don't think lens quality is really that important in golf, unless you just enjoy better quality. But it's certainly not like skiing, baseball, or driving where lenses can make a huge difference.

Taylor Made R1, what colour should I choose?

I'm not a huge fan of drivers with a high gloss finish, so I'd stick with the matte personally. But the question is: which do you typically prefer? -

A new one for me from Tin Roof Brewing in Baton Rouge. A nice dark porter brewed with mocha and French roast coffee. Really quite nice.

Malaysian Airlines Flight Missing, Presumed Crashed

Yeah, hijacking a plane is one thing. Making it completely disappear is another thing entirely. -

You clearly have no idea who Chelsea Handler is. She's just a blunt person that doesn't sugar coat much. She felt that Piers was being rude and called him out on it, especially when he called her boring. And I'm pretty confident that she would have said the same thing regardless of Piers's popularity.

Malaysian Airlines Flight Missing, Presumed Crashed
geauxforbroke replied to geauxforbroke's topic in The Grill Room
This is some f-ed up JJ Abrams type sh*t. There are so many things that don't add up to me. As I see it, there are 5 basic possibilities here: 1. Plane crashed into the ocean. As mentioned before, there are plenty of part of a plane and its contents that would float. I think it's nearly impossible that nothing has been found if the plane actually crashed in the ocean. A crash would help explain the sudden loss of communication. 2. Plane exploded mid-air. Similar to possibility 1, I would think that an explosion would leave debris scattered all over the ocean and/or land. This would explain the sudden loss of communication. 3. Plane crashed on land. Similar to possibility 1, I would would think that a crash would have been seen or reported. Additionally, I don't think the plane was anywhere near land when communication was lost. That's assuming the information that was being received was correct. 4. Plane landed on land. The big question here would be "why did communications abruptly stop". If the plane landed, there would have to be communication, and someone would know that it landed. 5. Plane landed in ocean. I would think that this would be the easiest way for a plane to disappear. Land intact in the ocean, then sink. However, there would still have to be an issue with communications going out. In all the possibilities I've mentioned, there are still holes that don't make sense. I can't think of a likely scenario that makes sense, unless there was foul play. -
Doubtful. France maybe? I don't know, he might be too much of an a**hole even for them.

Club Selection for Wind play
geauxforbroke replied to GolfLug's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yep. I've also noticed that with shorter irons, the effect of the wind is much less, and sometimes seems to beat the ball down and take some yardage off. Most of the time, I'd rather hit into a little wind than be hitting downwind, especially inside 100 yards. -
Chelsea Handler just vaulted her way near the top of my Favorite People of All Time list.

For some reason, I've always disliked Justin Leonard (except for one particular Sunday afternoon in September of 1999). Something about the way he carries himself on the course just doesn't sit well with me.

Easiest thing to do is just hit them on a lie board. There are a ton of DIY ways to do this if you don't want to go to a club fitter. I have a small scrap of plexiglass from when my father built a deer stand and I just put a piece of masking tape on the sole and color most of it in with a dry erase marker. Works just fine when I need to double check lie angle.

Difference between 3 & 4 hybrid both 21 deg?
geauxforbroke replied to duckdive117's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Do they have similar shafts? Same length and flex? I would assume unless something is dramatically different in the shaft or head weighting, you wouldn't see a huge difference in distance, only in ball flight. -
I've been wet shaving with good cream and a brush for nearly a year now, and I'll never go back to canned soap again. I haven't gotten into DE or straight razors yet, but planning on getting a straight blade when I have the cash to drop on one. When I consider how much I spend on disposable blades, it wouldn't take long to start saving money. Not sure what soap or cream you've got, but I'd definitely recommend Jack Black Triple Cushion. Biggest thing for me is pre-shave oil. Same blades and same cream, the results are much better when I use it than when I don't.

My mother in law was teaching at her school when all this came out about 6 or 7 years ago. The kid's mother actually filed a complaint with the LP school board about it. It's mind-blowing.
