  2. I am a 62 year old, always trying to get better like we all are!! :-) Just bought new Rocketballz metals and there IS a learning curve. . .! Driver: 260 - 275 yds. 3 Wood: 230 - 245 yds. 3 hybrid: 210 - 220 yds. 4 iron: 190 - 200 yds. 5 iron: 180 - 190 yds. 6 iron: 170 - 180 yds. 7 iron: 160 - 170 yds. 8 iron: 150 - 160 yds. 9 iron: 130 - 145 yds. Wedge: 100 - 125 yds. Sand Wedge: 90 - 110 yds. 60 degree Wedge: 60 - 85 yds. Mike
  3. I played the new Velocity ball and got great distance even though it was cool outside (50). Think I'll start using these and save $$ over the Pro V1!! Mike
  4. Man, its a constant battle. . .isn't it??!! Right now I'm concentrating on the following: 1. With my drives - staying "under the ball" and making sure I get my hips through. If I don't I know its going right! 2. Putting tempo 3. Trying to learn to be confident enough to "work the ball" I'm actually getting that I can draw or fade the ball at least sometimes. . .when I need to! Just love the game!! Mike

    Golf GPS

Are you sure you have the V300, or the version under that one?
  6. I wear madras plaid shorts and love them! If I golfed in long pants I'd wear plaid ones too! There is an advertisement in the back of golfing magazines that advertise plaid pants and other golfwear.
  7. For years I thought that I was not nearly good enough to buy "new technology" clubs. In fact, when I started playing seriously three years ago, I went on eBay and put together a set of Taylor Made Ti Bubble II's figuring that that technology would be more than enough! Then I used my buddies TM Super Quad driver and after a number of expletives, realized that I really COULD take advantage of new age clubs. Last year I sold my Bubble II's and bought Taylor Made CGB Max irons and my own SuperQuad. I improved tremendously, and will do better this year with a potential R9 driver which I'm getting fitted for in a few weeks. At 59 I'll never be a scratch golfer, but I think I can get into single digits!!
  8. . . .I'd like to hear opinions on this as well. I am thinking of buying this and have heard good things about it. Anyone using this??
  9. . . .this R9 driver really intrigues me! I used the Super Quad last year and liked it, but still had a slight fade/slice much of the time. Just the thought of setting this club up with a click or two closed setting and using my normal swing. . .i just might hit a few more fairways and increase my distance a bit. I'm getting fitted for one as soon as they come out! Mike
  10. I'm a Commercial Real Estate in the Washington, D.C. Northern Virginia area. If anyone needs to look at leasing office space in our area, let me know!! Mike
  11. The Sonocaddie V300 is a brand new unit and is attractive because it always tells you where you are on the course in real time as well as giving the yardage to all critical points on the hole you are playing. The fact that you can keep score on the unit and add playing notes would seem to be helpful. Thanks to all on the get backs! Mike
  12. I've discussed the merits of some of the GPS units with some on this forum(Sky Caddy etc.) but now am finally ready to buy one! Has anyone used the Sonocaddie V300 and what do you think about it??
  13. . . .Taylor Made Superquads dropped $100 at retail this year from $395. You can get them for a real deal on Ebay. . .but make sure you research the seller big time before you send them your hard earned cash!!!
  14. . . .I use the TM Superquad, 9.5 stiff. My buddy had a 10.5 I tried last year and really smoked the ball. Got a 9.5 because the launch monitor suggested that I could use a little lower trajectory. . .Now I seem to be shorter off the T and am scratching my head!
  15. . . .Just got the new CGB Max irons from Taylor Made with the Black Steel shafts. They are very forgiving and as advertised, allow you to hit the ball higher. They were advertised that they would increase your distance but I seem to be not hitting the ball as far with these as I did with my real old graphite shafts! Not sure why except that I'm almost 60. . .maybe that's it!!
  16. . . .My clothes say "Hey that guy looks good. . .he must be a good golfer!" I'm getting better. . .but my dress is more in fashion than my golf scores right now!!
  17. . . .I voted for "other" because, I too, am undecided! One of my golf partners at work uses the SkyCaddie SG5 and really likes it. I have also had my eye on the SonoCaddie V300 which has just become available on Ebay and with In the Hole. The V300 actually tracks you as you move around the course giving you up to the second yardages with a color display. It also allows you to keep your score and do a total "round analysis" when you are completed. I've also just heard about the uPro which utilizes actual aerial photography for the courses. . . .So now I'm totally confused and plan to wait a few weeks until I read a few reviews of these new units. IntheHoleGolf.com states that you can call them to discuss pros and cons of each unit. I called today and the person had not seen the SonoCaddie or uPro yet, and they were not expected to be in stock for a couple more weeks.
  18. Janzaruk, I think the common method is to hit your wedges and maybe the 9 in the middle of your stance, then move a little bit further forward as your irons get stronger. Woods and driver basically off your left heel. I do know that Jack Nicklaus (who has a fair amount of knowledge on the matter!!) hit all his clubs from the same spot! Just proves that it all depends on what feels comfortable to you. . . Hit 'em straight! Mike P.S. Awesome avatar. . .!!!
  19. . . .I used to use any decent ball I found until I started to get serious last year about playing more and getting better. (still definitely in the works!) I've used Titleist NXT's and recently splurged and bought a dozen ProV1's. Will not know if they make any difference until the weather in Maryland gets a little warmer. . .played last Friday and they felt like rocks when I hit them! Mike
  20. . . .I'm just getting acclimated to the new Burner #5 Utility club I just bought. If the first few rounds are any indication, I might try this club! If not, I'd go to the 5 Fairway wood and attempt to cut it slightly. (Just trying to teach myself that too!) Mike
  21. . . .We were out last Friday and had the frustration of playing behind four guys that not only were not very good, but had no idea about golf course ettiquette. They actually wheeled up their handcarts right onto the green and it was just a nightmare! So. . .we came up behind them on a par 3 where there was a slight back up. They finished hitting their T shots but their cart was parked about 30 yards behind the T box! One of our foursome got right into their cart and drove the cart right up to them and slammed on the breaks, laying rubber for about 20 feet!! It was hilarious and they had no clue what our guy did it for. . . You had to be there to appreciate how funny it was. Mike
  22. . . .I have been an Ebayer for 5 years and have done over 400 transactions, mostly non-golf. I did just buy a complete set of clubs from various Ebay sellers. You must do your homework and check feedback and get serial numbers!! Check them with your manufacturer before you put in your bid! You can save considerably if you really take your time in the buying process! It is real easy to get taken though. . .for many the chance you take might not be worth th 30-40% you can save. Mike
  23. . . .58 with my best years of golf ahead of me!!!
  24. . . .Not that aesthetics can help you put it in the cup. . .but I love the look of the Taylor Made CGB's for 2008 and needed a set of irons, so I got them! Awesome!! Mike
  25. . . .Didn't play today. . .had to watch Tiger put another notch in his smok'n gun! Man, did you see that putt on 18? Hope to play later this week though! Mike
