From last week. Hit a bomb, lots of roll, 285. Had about 240 to the front, lots of bunkers. Decided to layup, took too little club and hit it in a bunker. Had 75 yards to the pin, green elevated. Hit it straight at the flag, heard it land, hit the pin, it sounded as if it went in. Ended up 6 feet from the flag. Missed the putt.

71 right now, all depends how the weather holds up in the fall.
-
Not from my experience, obviously, but stats say otherwise. They hit the green a lot more often with a PW than with a 7 iron.

I wanted to add something about taking lessons. I think someone mentioned it before too. Find a good instructor, try to find some reviews maybe even youtube videos. When you do find one, tell him you are not looking for a patch, you want to really build a solid swing that will allow you to shoot lower scores. I did that, and even though I feel like I should be a single by now, I am very satisfied with my progress at 11. Good luck. :)

As others have mentioned before: Lessons, from an instructor.

I agree. Even though I can hit it out there, I don't like playing anything longer than 6700 or so. 250-260 drive on longer courses leaves me with a long iron or a hybrid/wood for my approach on some of the longer par 4's, and lets be realistic, at my level, that's just not fun.
-
190 drive, so probably a 175 carry, might not get him over the forced carries. Very little room for any errors. Also, would never be able to reach a green in two. My dad is on a short side, somewhat straight. Sometimes he plays longer tees with me, and straight is just not enough.
-
Were you playing the same tees? I'd say it all depends what tees you want to play. If you want to play tips on courses 7k+, your 190 yard drive guy will not score well.

You Should Watch Your Partner's Putts Roll to a Stop

That's very very interesting. This might change the way I read greens. -
You Should Watch Your Partner's Putts Roll to a Stop

Always. That last revolution usually gives away the general break. Most useful when the ball stops close to the hole. I hate when I am far away for some reason, and my dad or someone I play with putts before I get to the green. -
Play in the early spring in the Midwest and you learn your distances fairly quickly (together with using a rangefinder). Every shot, including a drive, either plugs, or makes divot and hops a foot forward. (I assume nobody from the "How long is your drive" thread has ever played in these conditions. No more 270-290 carries haha). This has definitely helped my game, as good as a GPS is, which I use together with a rangefinder, my distances were never dialed in as good as with me using the laser.

Personal best. Followed by a 96 the next day :~(

I am still around 11, but I am finally starting to get into 70's more often with a personal best 76 this past weekend. I would say hitting the ball with my body, finally starting to turn through the ball as opposed to hitting the ball with my arms/hands.

How Would You Play It? (9th at Belmont CC, Fresno, CA)
sopel10 replied to Golfingdad's topic in Golf Talk
I don't see myself hitting a driver there. Out of bound on both sides, long second shot if I wanted to go for the green. Even if you had 200 yards left, you will miss the green more often than not. Hit whatever you are comfortable off the tee, 4i/hybrid/wood. Layup with whatever you feel like, and hit 3rd on the green hopefully. Not a 2 shot hole b/c of the out of bounds/water/dogleg. -
That is actually a great idea. I shall do that.
-
Original grip. I still hit it solid, just not as far.
-
I come in very shallow and do tend to hit up on the ball. I am finding about 10% more fairways, not complaining that much, but I used to be able to look at a bunker 240-250 away and be comfortable flying it, not so much right now. I am currently going back to my old driver for a week or so, then I'll decide what I want to do.
-
Same specs. Ended up with Red Tie stiff, and I've got it cranked up all the way to 11 right now, b/c it still launches lower than my old driver. Old Driver was Razr Hawk, stiff shaft with loft at 9 degrees. (shaft is .75 inch longer than in the cobra). Swing speed about 108mph.
-
I hit my own driver on the simulator, and only the new bio cell plus was able to beat it, consistently. So that is what I ended up buying (used). I really like the ball flight (lower, I usually hit it too high), but after playing with it for 3 weeks or so, there is no question that it is shorter than my older driver.
-
I purchased a new driver after comparing it to my old driver on many different simulators. New club was averaging about 15 yards longer on the simulator. Unfortunately, that is not the case in real life.
-
Have you had a chance to use it outside yet? Not to discount good simulators, but I've recently gotten a new driver (based on simulator results) and I am actually going back to my old driver, based on real life results.

Easiest way to explain it is to YouTube Mickelson's shot. Personally, I will usually not even attempt it. I'd rather get a bogey on a hole than bring any big numbers into play.
-
I understand. Normal chip/pitch. land it in the middle, might roll off the green, maybe it will stay. Try the flop and these scenarios might occur, starting with mostly likely one: 1. Go right into the bunker. 2. Fly the green. 3. Duff it and not even get to the bunker. 4. Land it too far, long putt back. 5. Land it perfectly, 1 putt to save par.

Should not be the choice for someone trying to break a 100.
