Stop complaining. I go to my dad's in NC all the time....and even when it's bad, you can still get out. Try that in Chicago. :/

Unfortunately, as someone has said before, its usually a trade off. Some of us hate the big heads, myself included. Not sure what causes that, many tour players have mixed sets. Don't remember who said that recently, but one of the players said that they have bigger heads on their 3-6 irons because all they want to do is hit the green. Not go for the flag, they just want to be on the green. He also said that bigger head gives them more confidence when hitting the long irons. When pros talk like that, how they don't mind the bigger heads in longer irons, makes me think I'm not playing the proper clubs for my skill level (JPX 825 PROs). Always good to go on the monitor, and hit 10-20 shots with some SGI's and GI's and compare the results (not the best shot, the average)

I use both. :) If it seems fairly open in from (tee shot), i'll check my golfshot to make sure I'm using the right club and have enough room. For tight fairways, doglegs etc, i'll verify a tree or something like that with my laser. When going for the green, I always use the laser, sometimes verify back of the green with my golfshot.

Nike 20Xi balls on sale
sopel10 replied to Harmonious's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Completely forgot to post this. Bought 20 dozen last night. Xi-X I believe. Any comments on the quality of the ball? (Not a big deal since only $12.7 a dozen, but good to know anyways) thx -
Noob asks: New Clubs first, or Lessons first?
sopel10 replied to PR III's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
$600 gift card for Golfsmith and $100 for lessons? Buy a set of irons for $300. Driver and a hybrid or something for $200. Sometimes they have deals on last years stuff, where you buy a driver for 150-200 and you get a wood or hybrid for free, spend rest on balls and other purchases. Use $100 for lessons. Done. I don't think any kind of fitting is needed. Unless its something free or costs $50 or so. Develop something repeatable before doing any of that. -
Doesn't that article say average handicap, meaning of people that track their handicap, not an average golfer?

1. 10 rounds 2. 94 by their rules (115 real score) 3. 45
-
Yes, we are all different, and at different stages as well. I agree about the short game, my lowest round of 78 I only hit 7 greens, I got up and down 6 times though. Is your handicap accurate? I'm asking bc you are aiming at breaking 80 whereas a 25 capper would usually have trouble breaking 90. My dad is a 25 and he breaks a 100 every now and then.

I don't necessarily believe in golf tips. Again, might work for some, I've never really seen a tip help anyone, though (in the long run). I am completely not qualified to be giving any kind of tips either. What I know is, for me, lessons changed my golf. You have to be ready for a change. Please don't take it personally, but unless you are a very low single digit or better, you should not go into a lesson demanding anything. If you found a good instructor, he should work on things you need, not things you think you need. I'll say it again, might work differently for you, but this has been my experience.

Raul, Remember that what works for you has a very little probability of working for someone else. That's why taking lessons usually works better for an individual than looking at some videos online. Again, it is different for everyone. I, for example, never learned how to hit a ball 50%, I still have no clue how to achieve that. I can slow my tempo down, and it feels slower, but the ball travels just as far. I do agree that trackman distances should not be used on the golf course. But I am sure goatlord will quickly learn his new distances once he gets outside and plays a few rounds.

I've never seen a 28 cap AVERAGE numbers like that. I'm a 12.6, on trackman I can hit 10 drives, 6 will be solid, about 260 total, 2 will be great, 285-290 and 2 will be 230. That's still an average of 255-260. Most 28 cappers I've seen, will hit 2 solid ones, 1 great, and 7 so-so. But then again, you might have just improved so much since your last round. If these numbers are close to correct, with consistency they imply, your handicap should drop like a bomb when you start playing again.

I got the shanks about a year ago. Both on full shots and partial wedges. Full shots: Slow down my tempo on the backswing so that I don't come out of the plane. Partial shots: Pretty much think about my head staying still at all times. Standing farther from the ball is a quick fix, but did not work for me long term.

Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls
sopel10 replied to tmac20's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
They were $15 at the golf show in Chicago, decided to go for Pro V1x since they were $32. Never been a huge Callaway fan when it comes to balls, but I might try them sometime over the summer. -
At Rosemont, IL they had SLDR drivers for $300, this year's wedges for $99, Pro V1x for $32 a dozen (2012 model) and about 38-39 for 2013. Golf shirts starting at $10.
-
Already bought a Bettinardi putter and an SLDR hybrid. Plan for the year: 1. 2-3 Scor wedges (just ordered the demo) 2. New shoes, spikeless. That's the plan. I'd love to get fitted for a driver and a 3 wood, but that's probably close to 1k so maybe next year.

I started working with an instructor on a swing change/build about 2 years ago, and sometime around this past summer we were finishing up with the major parts and just working on putting everything together. I'm finally there so here is what I do when I get to the golf dome: I'll usually start by hitting little pitches 40-50yards for close to 10 minutes. After that, I start full swings with 8, 6 and 4 iron. If everything is working properly, I go back to pitching for few minutes, and start hitting hybrid/3 wood. I go back to pitches for another 10 minutes and then hit maybe 10 drives, at most. I finish up with another 5-10 minutes of pitches, different stances, different ball flight. After all that, I putt for 30 minutes. I think that everyone's routine would be different. We are all in different places with our games. My long game is not perfect but I can hit the ball somewhat long ways and my approaches are usually around 100 yards or so. I can live with me missing the green with a 4 iron, but missing it with a wedge or less, or not getting it close from 50 yards really hurts my score. This is why I put in so much time on my shorter shots.

I just switched offices. There is a guy, who goes to the range every now and then. Just found out he's never actually been on the golf course. Said that he thought you needed to have control over the ball before you play. I am from Chicago area, as soon as we get weather, I am taking him across the street to a golf course for a full 18. Will try to get him hooked. :)
