After taking the time to actually read most of this thread, I have come to the conclusion that honesty is completely arbitrary to those who do not consider it to be of high importance. True gentlemen will play golf according to the rules and take the time to learn the rules, play by the rules they know, and be willing to incorporate rules that they newly acquire. I play golf because I enjoy it, as I became better, I learned new rules and applied them. I still learn new rules and apply them when I have a chance to. But that is just me....So with that said, let the braggarts be braggarts, the newbies enjoy learning to play, and the BS'ers gloat in their moments of internet/19th hole glory.

Shot a 43 on Monday....The weather was horrible, 51 degrees and had rained most of the day. I was trying a new ball for me too....I lost 10 - 15 yards per club with the new ball vs the old ball. New ball Nike Ignite....old ball Nike Power Distance. Not sure how much was due to cold weather and no roll due to wet grass and soggy ground. I did putt much better though with the new ball...So far this year three out of four league nights have been poor weather!! Any ideas about the ball issue would be helpful, thanks!!

That's why we in Pittsburgh like Geno so much and why the Pens hustled him out of Russia like they did!! He has so much talent and as was said earlier, he never stops! GO PENS!!

Well today was the same....44 with one blow up hole. Number 2 cost me a seven but I generally played well again. I just need to focus on every hole.
-
Last two rounds were 44 and 43 respectively. Both rounds I had one hole that blew it for me. The last round I was sitting on 36 going into hole 9, pulled tee shot into the right trees, up against tree base for second shot, punched it out, flopped 4th onto the green, rolled back off and three putted.....nice hole, but really a good round overall. We will see what happens today. GO PENS!!!

I stopped playing Mulligans about 12 years ago. I figured I wouldn't get much better if I pretended to play golf. My pet peeve about Mulligans is when people take them, don't count the stroke and then say they shot x amount of strokes less than they actually did. Let me add that when I am playing by myself and the course is S-L-O-W....I will play more than one ball, but I do play the first ball I hit off the tee as is if I were in a match and I do count the score.

Lundquist played a great game. The Pens didn't play too well, but they had their scoring chances, including a penalty shot and Lundquist just shut them down. I'm a huge Pens fan but you have to compliment a goalie when he comes up big. GO PENS!!

My best shot was not my ace, although that was sweet. My best shot was on a par 5. I was in the right fairway trap about 214 out to a severely elevated green. I figurered I would try and hit a 3 wood out because that is what I would normally hit from that distance to this particular green. I really didn't think I would make a good shot but it was AWESOME!! I picked it cleanly and put it 20ft from the hole and sank the eagle!!

My favorite part of the game is just being out in a quiet area enjoying the game itself. My least favorite is fixing ball marks for the inconsiderate people who screw up the course.

But the really important question is can it get you from point B back to point A?

Can't really compare the two that much. Technology has changed, physical training has changed dramatically, and there wasn't much being done along the lines of sports psychology in Jack's time. Just like any other sport, hard to compare athletes of different eras.

Well I have several vehicles depending on my mood. Cavallier for work, (saving gas for golf money), a Jeep Grand Cherokee to make the wifey feel safe, a Windstar for when I'm hauling the entire gang, (4 kids) and a Harley for when I'm feeling stressed and feel the need for freedom!!

Here's where I play in my league and I just joined the club this year. It's small but well kept! http://www.kittanningcountryclub.com/

I'm a teacher so I guess work doesn't suck for me, it's the bratty teens and the parents who think their children are angels who suck!! Just kidding....

I generally get 3-4 per year. A couple of courses I play have some shorter wide open par 5's, about 490/510. My 3 wood off the ground is one of my best clubs and I have spent a lot of time on putting the last couple of years.
-
Actually no, I normally am in the low-mid 80's at that course. The greens are extremely fast and undulating. My league is only a 9 hole league I did get better last year and I shot 40 there three times. Of course there have been times when I shot 48 there as well. I am a purist when I golf though, i.e. my league utilizes a "fluff" rule, I never fluff it because I want to get better. I do know that when I go to local public courses, they seem to be a lot easier now that I have played a more difficult course. I was able to shoot a 78 last year on a public course. Since I joined the club this year I will get a more comprehensive HC, as I will have more than 16 rounds in at that course.

Ok, I'm trying to figure out how good/bad I really am then. I play at a course where the course rating is 70.8 and the slope rating is 133. My handicap there is 14...and the survey says?
-
Since I have recently, in the past three years, joined a golf league, I was wondering how slope and rating were etermined and what affect it has in the calculation of a golfer's HC. I joined my local country club as an associate ths year so I'm just more interested in all of the concepts of golf.

I love being outdoors in the early morning however, I prefer to have the dew gone when I am golfing. A few years ago I used to meet two of my friends early, before the course officially opened up. We would play the first nine, stop at the turn and pay for the whole round and continue on. I guess there are good points and bad points, but still whether it is morning, day, or evening the golf course can be a great place of serenity.

Unless you are playing in handicap tournaments or in a league, your handicap basically means nothing. It is merely a tool used to level the playing field among golfers of various skill levels.

After sitting here and reading through the majority of this thread, the bottom line here gentlemen is that there are many different types of golfers. Some are out there to have fun and their definition of golfing fun is to buy new equipment, to others it is the purity of the game, still others are a combination of the two, and I am sure that there are several other combinations of golfers and definitions of golfing fun as well. The fact is people will do whatever it is that makes them feel good. I for one am interested in learning more about my golf game, what do I need to do so that should I choose to upgrade my equipment, I will get the best result for the money spent? In my opinion that's what everyone is trying to do, improve their game. I just choose to believe that nothing, not new clubs, new golf balls, new shoes, clothes, etc....will improve my game as much as quality time spent with a good instructor, time on the range and practice green, a proper warm up, and a healthy attitude about my abilities will.
