Outside of the shock value of the title I don't disagree with much of that at all, and neither does official U.S. policy.

Opinion shows or even opinion creeping into "news" broadcasts: No problem. Sitting on or shutting off newsworthy stories and certainly shutting off opposing news sources: A huge problem. Really? Geraldo??? Geraldo is every bit as liberal on issues of race and immigration as anybody over at MSNBC. Heck he almost has to fight his way off of the set on the Fox opinion shows like The Factor and Hannity (and especially in cases like the Trevon Martin case).
-
If I ever meet a liberal I'm going to ask them why they feel like everybody on the planet deserves sympathy and a voice (no matter what crimes and atrocities they have committed) but want to shut up any voice that disagrees with them??? Unless of course if they are afraid of a group. Then it's crickets.

Colin Cowherd (that SEC homer) is really in hot water now. He just predicted that the SEC won't have anybody in the 4 team playoff. OMG I can already hear the uproar! LOL I predicted before the season that no SEC school would have less than 2 losses. Looks like I may have been wrong (mostly due to TAMU not being as competitive as I thought they would be). If I could re-predict right now I would say that both Auburn and Mississippi State each have a 60% chance of beating Alabama. With Treadwell out Ole Miss becomes an easier win for State so I figure they have a 70% chance to win that game. I thought Georgia would be a test for Auburn and that's not looking very smart at this point but if I throw out the Florida game as a freak, and figure a boost when they get Todd Gurley back, I give Georgia a 25% chance to win that game. Whoever ends up playing in the SEC Championship from the West has a 70% chance of winning that game. Add it up and both Auburn and Mississippi State may end up with less than 2 losses but it's not a sure bet yet.

Hopefully you are with Townsend. ;-) If so:  If not:  anyway. ;-)

And yet everybody does it with quarterbacks at least to some degree. ;-) Other position players that were never on a Championship (or even a winning) team may get in a Goat discussion but never quarterbacks.

Will Ebola become a big problem in the United States?
MS256 replied to MS256's topic in The Grill Room
Surely you don't expect Americans to know Africa is not a country. ;-) http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/05/0502_060502_geography.html -
I take most TV opinions with a huge grain of salt. Some people have an agenda and are biased. Some even admit it and make no bones about it. Some people are just ignorant and don't actually watch a lot of the teams they are talking about. And some are simply not very bright about the Xs and Os of football. Pretty much just like "fans". I normally like announcers that equally piss off both fan bases during a game or during commentary. It's actually hilarious when I check websites for two different teams during a game and both fan bases are absolutely convinced that the announcers are openly rooting for the other team. It happens every single game that Vern and Gary call. Alabama fans think Colin Cowherd hates them. Fans outside of the SEC think Colin Cowherd is an Alabama and SEC homer. It's best for TV and probably best for football when at least some teams in major nationwide TV markets are in the mix.

Bi-Weekly TST Movie Thread (November 22-24 - There Will Be Blood)
MS256 replied to Lihu's topic in The Grill Room
Oh. I thought it was supposed to be a different thread for each movie, or maybe that's what I was hoping it was. Looking back through long threads to find something that I might want to watch, or listen to in the case of the music thread, is too cumbersome for me. -
I don't watch a lot of moves but I watched The Impossible (which my wife had recorded). I would say it lipped out a birdie because it reminded me of a made for TV movie in some ways and I thought some near miss sighting scenes were a little corny and predictable. I did think the acting was really good, the tsunami scene looked realistic, and the actual story it's roughly based on is amazing.

Mizuno owners, why do they call us snobs??
MS256 replied to tkomow2's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yep. Most of them I know were snobs whether they were playing golf or not. I had no idea that Mizuno was the club of choice for snobs. I'll have to start watching for that. LOL Honestly for some reason I never even pay any attention to which clubs even my closest friends are using. Right now I know what my son plays but don't have any idea about any of the other guys in our regular groups. Sometimes one of them will show me a club or ask me to hit it but a week later I have forgotten which brand it was. Most of them seem to change clubs quite a bit anyway and there's no need for me to waste valuable brain cells keeping track of what they play with. -
I hated to see that too. Hope it heals up alright. He's a really good player, probably the best player on Ole Miss' team, and was bound to be a good NFL player. Whenever I see a broken leg the first thing that comes to my mind is Tyrone Prothro who was never able to play again after his broken leg.

Single digits...how to get there
MS256 replied to TheFinnster's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The "fairways" where I play are as long as "rough" at some courses (and much thicker). I get some frowns when I mention that I would much prefer closely mowed fairways because most of the guys like it as it is. They actually complain about the "thin lies" at other courses. The thinner the better for me. I have much better distance control from thin lies. -
This early in the morning that still looks like a capital "K". Edit: Never mind I'm awake now and it looks lower case now.

I was the same way, even though I'm old enough that it seems like I would have paid more attention to his music. About the only song I took notice of was Glory Days and that was only because the first verse is about a washed up baseball player and it reminded me of me. LOL I never really became a fan until I saw one of his concerts on TV from Madison Square Garden. I was impressed by his effort and the words to many of his songs that I didn't know before that concert. I had the concert on my DVR and watched it quite a few times when nothing much else was on. Some of his songs have a political tint to them and he's definitely way to the left of me politically but I like the songs anyway.

I agree that it's all about how bad the rough is but even so you have to figure that you are not always going to be in the rough. Even in fairly penal rough to always play it safe is probably taking away more good birdie chances (when the fairway is hit) than it is saving bogies (when the fairway is missed). Where I draw the line and try to stay in the fairway at all costs is if the rough is such that I am very likely to lose a golf ball in it. Absent that and I'm probably going to get as much distance as I can and take my chances. -
I don't always root for Auburn and Mississippi State... but when I do...it's because it's better for Alabama if they win. LOL. War Eagle and Hail State (at least for this week). BTW It's amazing how big and physical Arkansas is to have not won an SEC game in about 17 tries. They are so close it's bound to happen soon.
-
LOL. Surely you don't take F-Baum seriously. ;-) I would say at this point that both Mississippi schools have more than a "chance" though. I would say more like in the driver's seat for Mississippi State and at least in the car for Ole Miss. (I'm hoping Auburn can put an end to Ole Miss' chances tonight). Mississippi State can even afford to lose this game (and I don't think they will) and still be in decent shape. Not so for Ole Miss.
-
^^^ Ditto. (Unless I'm making an adjustment for an unusual lie or flighting the ball down or something).

Louisiana Monroe at TAMU: 1. TAMU is terrible. 2. Kevin Sumlin with possibly the worst coaching job here at the end that I have ever seen. Little over 2 minutes left and TAMU runs the ball for 3 straight first downs to the ULM 45 yard line. Then a brain explosion tells Sumlin to throw the ball??? Then another brain explosion tells Sumlin to throw the ball again??? A third down run and the last timeout for ULM gives ULM the ball back with a chance to win. Fortunately TAMU holds them and wins the game 21 to 16. And they play Auburn next week? LOL They should call in sick for that one.

How do I hit very low shot out of rough?
MS256 replied to Youngbear11213's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What I do. May or may not apply to everybody: I move the ball a little back in my stance and press my hands slightly more forward than usual, pick a club about one loft lower than I think is necessary for the shot, and make sure my hands are still leading the club head by quite a bit at impact. Also try to hold off the natural rotation of the club face post impact and have a much lower finish position. -
Single digits...how to get there
MS256 replied to TheFinnster's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Totally incorrect. Not only can you reach single digits with one or two doubles, you can get all the way down to the 5's. ;). Don't want to take my word it? Ask @David in FL ... If I had a nickel for everytime he's posted "today I shot 78 with two birdies and a silly double" ... -
Early season polls mean almost nothing, and especially now that there is a Selection Committee. Certainly traditional powers have an advantage in the polls over most teams. That's not going to change. If a team doesn't like not getting that kind of respect all they have to do is start winning some championships. I like watching both of Colin's shows but he's no more of an expert than the rest of us. Sometimes I agree with his opinions and sometimes I don't. Sometimes his opinions turn out to be true and sometimes they don't. One thing I do like about him is that when he's totally wrong he doesn't mind admitting it. I get the most aggravated with him on those years when he thinks Alabama is a lot better than they actually are. I'm thinking shut up Colin. We don't need an additional target on our back, additional motivation for opponents, and added fuel to the fire for stupid fans that think we are going to win every game.

Single digits...how to get there
MS256 replied to TheFinnster's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A man's got to know his limitations. Should have gone with the PW. Nothing aggravates me more on one of our holes that has OB on both sides than to "lay up" and hit it OB (and I've done it plenty). When that happens I'm thinking I might as well have ripped the driver. I'm more likely to keep it in play with a fairway wood than I am with a driver where even a bad shot equally as many degrees off line has a chance of stopping short of OB. But then laying up also gives me a better chance of hitting my second shot OB (which I've also done). And less likely to make a birdie even if I hit the fairway. The obvious best answer is to get better at hitting the fairway with a driver. That's what "good players" do and what separates them from me. -
Single digits...how to get there
MS256 replied to TheFinnster's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
In general I agree and I am certainly as stubborn as anybody about pushing my luck with a driver (even when most people consider it a "non-driver hole"). But: There have been plenty of times that I was hitting my driver so badly that I would have scored better using almost anything else off of the tee. Anything in the fairway (or findable in the rough) is better than a ball OB, lost in the woods, or in a water hazard.
