Tiger Woods Driving Problems - Really dude? Really!
liquor box replied to RightEdge's topic in Tour Talk
If I had the ability to hit everything straight I would probably hit long irons off the tee to allow me to hit full irons into every green. I admit I am not a great player but I too have difficulty hitting accurately from 60-70 yards so I usually aim to be either 90-100m from the pin for a SW or 120m for a PW. I also hit long irons or 5w from the tee to allow this distance to be left. I could hit driver but if you think about your next shot and not just the shot you are currently hitting you will quickly lose strokes from your handicap. If you are even mildly accurate off the tee, even being in the first cut of rough on most fairways then course management will lose you plenty of strokes. You have said you can hit a driver up to 300yds straight, do you ever try to move the ball left or right? This is when you will start to have issues with accuracy -
I enjoy the LPGA more due to them having to try to beat the course rather than outmuscle it. All obstacles are in play due to the lac of length compared to the mens. This is how golf is meant to be played.

Michelle Wie...Will she ever return to her previous form?

Since when is closely researching new putting methods being dirty -
I bought a book by Jack Nicklaus and he calculated at 10yards elevation equalled one club

I don't know if it would, but if may assist if designed properly

I have always thought one line is a poor idea, why not have a 90 angle and a cross to line up, this way you have a line for the path of the ball and a line to check you putter alignment. I have often also wondered why putters don't come in chrome or highly polished to allow the reflection to assist alignment

I use social rounds for practice so I think using/taking more than the allowable clubs is ok, but not in competition. I often try different tactic for attacking a hole and require extra clubs to decide if it is worthwhile in competitions

Adding measurements from laser to yardage book for tournaments

to be declared as a device does the device have to be digital? Can you use a spirit level? Can you look at the angle that the driver cover cord hangs at to gauge the slope? -

I think the Pros should use range finders, it would certainly speed up rounds. I am far more concerned that Caddies assist lining up of shots and putts, Golf to me is an individual sport and should remain so. -
The Masters: Jason Day US Open: Charl Schwarzel Open Championship: Jason Day PGA Championship: Adam Scott I think Day will have a break out season and win big, twice.

I track my irons a lot more than drives as I believe it is more important. I look at driver length only for amusement if I really get hold of one.

While I agree with the if it ain't broke motto I also think there is another saying along the lines of if you do what you always do, expect the results you always get. I hope Ko has done the right thing and improves

1 Play at least 52 rounds 2 Get handicap to 12 3 Shoot a 6 over off the stick, I shot a 9 over recently 4 Hit every green in regulation in one round 5 Hit every fairway off the tee in one round 6 This is the hardest one, don't get upset with myself for playing poorly, always remember bad golf days beats good days at work

Late this season I have developed a thing for Sandra Gal. She always looks great.

I wonder more about what 4 round total is possible. A one off fluke score of 58 would not be as impressive as a great 4 round total. Ernie Els had a 31 under result on a par 73 course for 4 rounds. I think that 33 under is a chance and believe that anything better than this will be a long way off.

I had my best round ever, I shot 75 off the stick which was 9 over par on a short course with cored greens. I had never been in single figures over par and was 10over with the last hole to play. It was a 348m slight dogleg to the left a little bit uphill which is the second hardest hole on the course.. I hit my hybrid off the tee and smacked it dead straight to 146m (range finder distance). This left me with an 8 iron to go. there was a slight breeze from the left of the green which and I aimed at the left edge of the green and hit it sweet. It faded with the wind and looked like it was going to be close to the pin. Due to the slight uphill slope as I walked towards the green I could not see the ball and assumed it had rolled off the back. As I got close I was pretty happy! I was about 2 feet from the pin and sunk a simple birdie putt to get to 9 over. This is probably my best played hole ever, I would not change a thing. I am now off 15 so I dropped a stroke today.

Goals that you have set for yourself that are actually achievable
liquor box replied to liquor box's topic in Golf Talk
I generally hit about 9 out of the 14 fairways on my local course which is about 64% but I am usually not too far off on the others. There are 3x par 5's that I use a driver on and only 3 x par 4's that I use driver or 3w on. the rest are 3i-7i off the tee due to water across fairways or doglegs/bunkers. As for greens in regulation I am pretty hopeless, but can usually get about 1-5m off the green and pin high. My average par 4 or 5 is on the fairway, or on the fringe ( I count being 5cm into the 1st cut as off the fairway) and then miss the green by about 3m and then chip and 2 or 3 put. I probably 3 put at least 3-4 times a round. -
There are many golfers who set a goal that is possibly more about luck than skill, like to get a hole in one. Some people want to play a round in even par, which is great if you are already great at golf. For me my major goal is to play an entire round with every fairway hit AND every green in regulation. I am off about 16 so if I achieve this goal allowing for 3 putts I would possibly be at around +5 scratch which would be my best by far. I am actually confident of doing this in the next few months. What is your highest goal that you think you will definitely achieve within a reasonable timeframe?

What Is The One Shot You Wish You Could Copy From A PGA Player

I would be happy to be on the green for 2 on par 5's -
I think most people would do that. On days when I hit greens all day I will leave 20-40ft putts and tend to 3 putt a fair bit. On days with a low GIR I tend to miss the green by 3-5 feet and chip close to the hole and get a fair few one putts. I added a distance stat to my records to indicate if my three putts are from a long distance

easy to implement ways & ideas to speed up recreational golf round.....
liquor box replied to Spitfisher's topic in Golf Talk
2 words, be courteous! Look behind you, if there is a group that is waiting for you on every hole, let them through. If you cant find your ball after a minute and are so attached to it that you cant go without, then call them through and continue to look If you have the honour, but are the longest hitter in your group let a shorter hitter go first if the group ahead are in your range. -
I love using mine, it comes in very handy on new courses when there are interesting shots like a creek across the fairway, a fairway bunker that you may be able to reach and also for knowing distances to dog legs. If more courses had signs with accurate distances from tee to hazards then I would not use one and just go by distance markers. I say get one, it makes a big difference

Looking at the greens in that video I think I am the "not playing on cored greens guy"

20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
liquor box replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If this is true then that is awesome, but I am only newish to the game so I have just one question, why would you hit a soft driver when you could hit a full powered iron? If you are hitting so far why not hit irons and get the advantage of back spin? How far do you hit other clubs? Do you carry a full set of irons or with your distance do you carry 4-5 wedges and 7,8 and 9 iron? For the record I am off about 15-18 hcp I hit a pitching wedge 125 yards, a 7 iron 170 yards and my 4 iron 200yards. My average drive on a fairway goes 265 yards and an awesome drive goes 290 with a massive tail wind. -
If anchored putters are so great surely everyone would use it. Since not every one uses one then I don't see how it is a proven advantage so I say he is not cheating. How about asterisks next to anyone who uses metal drivers, these are now universally used so there must be a benefit that is proven otherwise no one would use them!!! just kidding! If long putter are easy to use then why wouldn't the big manufacturers force their players to convert and win and then reap benefits from increased sales? Imagine if Mickleson broke his major drought with a long putter and then said that it really helped, every second golfer would have switched. Woods has not won a major for a long time, imagine if he now switched and won, I bet Nike would sell a ton of long putter tomorrow.
