  1. That would be even more of a waste of space in your bag than carrying a chipper.
  2. Epoch tees. Unbreakable and more user friendly than Zero Friction. And you get 40 long ones and 10 short ones in a package, which is great. I carry one of each in my pocket for driver/3wood and irons off the tee.
  3. Pure Mizuno forged blades would be the obvious choice.
  4. I like wearing plaid shorts with a striped golf shirt, black belt, and no-show socks. Yes, I am a fashion catastrophe. I enjoy it. I don't have any eye for fashion so I just don't understand what could be wrong with plaid and stripes at the same time - they're all stripes, right? Just one part has vertical stripes and the other part doesn't. If the colors match I feel stylish.
  5. After my breakthrough 90 early this week and a 98 I finally broke 90 by shooting a 42-47 89 today!! I equaled my best at 31 putts although I three-putted 3 times. The great thing was that I was giving myself chances to get up and down left and right and successfully got up and down for par six times. I holed out some tough putts for par which was a great feeling. Check out my round in Scorecard (gonna be buying a license soon, I think!) http://www.geocities.com/qwkdtsn/rou...080620-p3.html
  6. I put a Pro V1x in play for the first time yesterday and shot my best round ever. Coincidence? I put it in play again today and haven't lost it yet. They will for sure be worth buying now that I have mostly quit losing balls. I used to go through fifteen Top-Flites in a week of play. I haven't lost a ball OB in quite a few rounds but I still have a hard time shelling out so much money for Pro V1s! I am always excited to find one while searching for one of my own lost balls.
  7. Shot a 98 today, hit significantly many more fairways today than yesterday but had a lot more putts and did not hit as many greens or get up and down. http://www.geocities.com/qwkdtsn/rou...080618-p2.html
  8. Yup, definitely an otherworldly kind of place during the peaks of the seasons. The winters got tough, sometimes, when the sun wouldn't come up until after 10 AM and would be back down before 4 PM! Big balance there! /sorry for the threadjack!
  9. Yeah, I lived in Kodiak for 14 months. I know all about that. I remember when I was in Nome, AK the sun came up around 3:30 AM and went down just after 1:30 AM. It was weird seeing the sun circle the entire sky over the horizon, then dip down underneath it for a little while, and come right back up.
  10. My 90 from today! I hope I can keep it up!
  11. My home course is $32 to walk 18 if you are not a member (it's sickening how cheap being a member is, compared to what you get...) I live less than one mile from my home course, BTW. It's a 3 minute drive from my front door to the pro shop. Another local course has twlight golf after 5:30 PM for only $15. Since it is light here until 9:30 PM in summer and it's a great course it's a steal of a deal.
  12. I play at least 4 times a week, sometimes up to 8 if I am playing more than 18 on weekend days. I am at the course every day when I'm not working but often I am just doing some 'free practice' (chipping and putting). If I am hurting I will just do a little practice and not play. I think I am all fixed up so I am planning on playing every day rain or shine, especially after my great round today!
  13. I wear Oakley polarized Gascans. They are great for when it's really sunny. I've never noticed a problem seeing the ball or reading the greens with them on, but I've been wearing them for 3 years so I'm used to looking through them just about any time I'm outside.
  14. Avid Golfer... calling Avid Golfer... One of your awesome images showing 20 different pros at address with a driver would be great here! pittpanther, a lot of pros do not tee the ball off their front foot, but in the middle of their stance... I tee it off the front because that's what I need to do to get good contact and ball flight (predictable high fade).... The key is to do what works consistently so that you can trust yourself to hit a good shot and not wonder what is going to happen.
  15. Today I played the best round of my life, and it was raining buckets for most of the first nine holes, and was obviously wet thereafter. I carded in a 90 with 31 putts, one birdie, 5 pars, and nothing else over a double bogey. I had zero 3-putts and 5 1-putts. I am working on posting my round with Scorecard. It was awesome to be striking the ball so well and making good decisions! *edit: Sweet, I got my Scorecard trial up and running. http://www.geocities.com/qwkdtsn/rou...080617-p1.html
  16. Yup, that's what I got, it is a great set. The driver and 3-wood are awesome, the irons are very good cavity back style. The hybrids are OK but the lie is a little funny and I don't hit them well, but it's probably my fault. The stand bag is great. The whole set for $150 was an awesome way to get started in golf and I wouldn't go any other way for your first season.
  17. My drive barely touches the topmost branch of a pine tree and falls straight down. I have about 180 left to the hole, uphill, with another large pine between me and the green. There is room under the first tree to take a full swing, but there is a branch hanging down to about 4' from the ground directly in front of me. With a 5 iron, I place the ball way back in my stance, and play as hard of a punch shot as I can. My ball screams out from underneath the branch, climbs, curves in a slow fade that I didn't even intend to make - left to right around the second tree in my way - lands, and rolls out on the fairway 20 yards from the green. I go on to waste it completely by blading the ball over the green, pitching back on, and two-putting for double bogey. But that one shot was awesome.
  18. Man oh man!! I wish I could watch this right now. All I can do is watch the leaderboard online.
  19. I think the reason the question was asked is that he always wears red when he's in the lead going into the last day of a tournament. What to wear when you're tied and in a playoff? :) I think he'll wear red again. It's his power color..
  20. I want to see Rocco win because his attitude is absolutely awesome. He is just having the time of his life and doesn't seem to be feeling any pressure. On the other hand, Tiger has to live up to being Tiger, and though he handles pressure better than just about any human being, I think another full 18 with that knee is going to worry him. I can see Tiger opening with another double bogey and struggling to catch up to Rocco, as long as Rocco keeps playing smart and shooting pars the way he has been. Tiger made a lot of gambles today, and he's probably going to start making more gambles tomorrow, and I don't expect he's going to win too many of them.
  21. Rules of Golf. 15-1. General A player must hole out with the ball played from the teeing ground unless the ball is lost, out of bounds or the player substitutes another ball, whether or not substitution is permitted (see Rule 15-2). If a player plays a wrong ball, see Rule 15-3. 15-3 states that a stroke taken at a wrong ball carries a penalty of two strokes. So by the rules of golf, no, you can't change balls mid-hole. You could if you are just practicing, but why not get used to how one ball plays from tee to hole?
  22. Agree, I played in my first tourney not too long a go, it was a 4-man scramble. My 3 playing partners are probably realistically in the 40-50 handicap range and I am not so sure I can really play to a 21.8 (that's what the USGA computer I post my scores on calculates me at...) We posted an 86, I felt great and I thought we did awesome! We were using my shots at least 3/4 of the time. When we get back and started looking at the board I realized that a competitive score was something like 11-12 under par for the round. My friend on a better team said, "How did you guys possibly play bogey golf on a scramble?" Getting GIR and chances at birdie putts is key... For my team, a good chip close to the hole was key for making par, because none of us was good at iron approach shots.
  23. I was walking up to the driving range and I said to myself, "someone's hitting a Cleveland HiBore XL". I was right on, and I'm not exactly knowledgeable about drivers. A guy was hitting the HiBore and every shot sounded like a cannon, except he was slicing them, hooking them, hitting worm burners, and skying them off the top. Every shot sounded the same, and about 100db to boot. It's a shame because I like the looks of that driver and I do appreciate getting aural feedback when I boom one or hit a bad shot.
  24. Guys, I posted about this subject within the past couple of months. As a new golfer I was using interlocking because that's what I remembered learning ages ago. My pinky was getting very sore and I was waking up in the middle of the night and in the morning with trigger finger - a condition where the tendon that runs through your finger sticks. It was hard to bend my finger, and when it bent, it would suddenly click and bend - and then it would be stuck in the bent position. I would try to un-bend it, and it would click, and spring free. This really worried me and I switched to the Vardon / overlapping grip. The transition to this grip was very easy - it took me less than a round of golf to get used to it, as a new golfer - and I am no longer having any issues with my finger. I would seriously consider switching your grip immediately if you are unable to relieve your pain while still using interlocking, or if your symptoms get worse.
  25. 2? Sorry, a little dyslexic. It's like an upside down and backwards 5, right? ;) Tiger's 18th was epic. Finally hit the fairway after 5 tee shots into the rough, nails the green, and makes a HUGE downhill putt for another eagle on the last. He really is like a human highlight reel like they say. So many bad shots, but he just rolls them in like it's easy to make everyone forget about the inaccuracy off the tee. I still like Rocco, I was sad to see his blow-up hole after so many consecutive pars, and man, what a great attitude. He has just the right attitude to be playing in San Diego. He just looks like he's having the time of his life and barely seemed to be feeling any pressure at all all day.
