The Callaway HX Tour 56 in my opinion is like crazy spin. I only like them on hard crusty greens. There is a new course around here called Shale Creek. The greens are only a year old and hard as a rock. The HX came in very handy on them. I would hit a high iron and it would take one hop and stop.

Tired of People Hating on the 3-iron
ezmoney5150 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use my 3 iron when there is a par 3 where I'll need it. Or a course that has really low rough. For the most part I have ended up with a 200 yard shot on a par five out of the rough. When I try to hit a 3 iron out of the rough from that distance I either end up short in the water/bunker or if I catch a flyer I air mail it over the green. I prefer the iron but the 22 degree hybrid is great out of the rough. I'll never replace my 4 iron. Well maybe in another 30 years. -
Have you hit the MP 67's?????? These aren't your fathers old blades from the 60's. The "cut muscle" in the club make it feel as good if not better than my old Ping I3 Blades. I think you're being unfair.
-
I think I'm a bit biased on this subject. I love my MP 67's. I've had Pings all my golfing life and never thought I was a good enough ball striker to play blades. Since I've had these Mizuno irons my handicap dropped by 3 strokes.

Which fairwaywoods do you use?
ezmoney5150 replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a Taylor Made V Steel 15 degree 3 wood. Its a great 3 wood because of the sole plate. I've hit it about 240 out of light rough. I also have a 200 series Taylor Made 13 degree Tour Spoon which I use on longer courses. -
Which Wedge Do You Use Most Often?
ezmoney5150 replied to FutureSound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
To me its loft. 54 to 56 is a sand wedge. 58 to 60 is a lob wedge. You can get a sand wedge with very little loft. -
Do you own TM R580XD Driver?
ezmoney5150 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had a 580XD before I bought the R7. I wish I would have never sold it. I originally had a Mitsubishi Rayon shaft in it. I reshafted it to a UST Proforce 65 and was blasting the ball about 20 yards longer. The first time I used it I hit 13 fairways. I only bought the R7 because they had a deal where you bought an R7 and you would get a free hybrid at whatever loft you wanted. I wish I had it back. -
Which Wedge Do You Use Most Often?
ezmoney5150 replied to FutureSound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Out of the rough around the greens I'll use my 56. If I have a tighter lie that I can spin the ball more I'll use my 52 or Pitching wedge depending on how much green I have to work with. Always trial and error. -
I stand corrected.

I've actually played about 5 holes with one. I just wonder what everyone else thinks that they are moving up the board with all of Nike's troubles.

Which Wedge Do You Use Most Often?
ezmoney5150 replied to FutureSound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If I have to spin the ball or have short sided myself I'll use the sand wedge. If I have an uphill chip or more green to work with I'll use my gap wedge. -
When is it time to switch to a different set of teeboxes?
ezmoney5150 replied to Mr.Buckethead's topic in Golf Talk
My attitude on this is if you are taking the hazards out of play by blasting it by them or short of them. I might play the tips at my course of 7100 yards twice a year because there is no penalty for missing the fairway. With the wind the way it is I can't reach the fairway bunkers except downwind. I generally stay at the blue tees at 6600 yards. If the course is playing hard and fast I'll move back to the tips. Also in the spring when the course is playing wet and long I might play the white tees at 6100 yards. -
Right now I have about 8 dozen balls in my trunk. The only reason I have so many is I found a deal on Top Flite Strata TL for $15 a dozen so I bought 4. I find alot of balls at the course I play. There's alot of water. I have about 3 dozen shag balls at my house that I pitch around the yard.

According to Golfweek magazine Taylor Made had 16 golf balls in play during the Open Championship which beat Nike with 15. Of course Titleist was the leader with 95. Callaway 14 Srixon 9 Bridgestone 6 Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Sergio and maybe one more person playing the Taylor Made ball at the beginning of the season?

690.cb user looking to move to "cut muscle" irons
ezmoney5150 replied to prutkows's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Did you try the MP-67's??? They're a cut muscle also and in my opinion have a better feel than the 32's or the 37's. I used to have the 37's before these 67's. -

It comes down to how good of a ball striker you are. I'm a good ball striker with my irons and horrible with anything that resembles a wood. The only reason my handicap is low is my short game and being able to work my irons around trees. Like today and yesterday I didn't hit one fairway. Even with my hybrids. I made par and birdie on all the par 3's. I'm biased towards any iron Mizuno makes. In my opinion they make the best irons. I found the MP-60's to be very forgiving, I just like a very thin top line. I just don't feel comfortable with a thick topline and especially offset. That's why I went with the MP-67's

Travelers-Hartford Open (Beware of Spoilers)
ezmoney5150 replied to Frank-0-Sport's topic in Tour Talk
That's why it's the US Open run by the USGA. I don't think Oakmont was unfair at all. If you hit it in the fairway you could spin the ball. There is a penalty for hitting it in the rough. Most courses you just bomb and gouge. who needs the fairway when you can hit driver wedge on every hole. There also was a "Risk reward" par 4 you could drive. I'm sorry I don't agree. Oakmont was a fair test. -
I've been a member since 1995. I think they do alot of great things alot of people don't realize. The research they do on turf has made courses today like country clubs of old.
-
Phil's dropping strokes like crazy. I wonder if he doesn't turn it around on the back if he'll make the cut.
-
Adam Scott hit a 2 iron on the 8th hole just on the apron. The pin was cut up front, so thats where you want to play it. Not an un-fair hole in my opinion.
-
I think the hole is fair. The USGA sets these courses up to play fast and firm. The hole is designed to run it up off of the apron. Today the tee was up playing about 250. I watched a bunch of people hit sling hook 3 irons up on that green. If it was playing uphill into the wind, I might say it was unfair.

Golf Jacket / Zip Ups...Suggestions?
ezmoney5150 replied to RKO's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't have one personally but everyone who owns a Zero Restriction rain suit swears by them. -
I have a big fat zero. I have had them bounce off of the pin, back spin and sit on the edge but not fall. The worst part is two of my uncles have two a piece and they're about 30 handicappers.
