  1. I feel your pain. Thankfully though, when a certain part of my game decides to quit on me for a round, another one will always come through in the clutch. I've had days where every iron was about 8 feet of the ground, but it was a 280 yard bomb down the pipe that got me there. Days where it would take me 4 or 5 shots to hit a green, but I could count on that sucker to drop in 1 swing of the flat stick. One thing that has started to work without fail for me is chipping though. I feel like I can get it up and down from just about anywhere now, and all that was is missing greens so often that I'm faced with the 10-30 yard chips I now love 10 or 12 times per round. Also practicing... a lot. Tiger Woods said it best: "practice makes permanent."
  2. The biggest reason is loft. A 9.5 degree driver will put a lot less backspin on a ball than a 13 degree 3 wood, and with less backspin, there's more room for sidespin (hook/slice), but the catch is: more loft = less distance. Same reason why a 5 iron will hook/slice a lot more than a wedge, even though you're putting an identical swing on the ball.
  3. That happened to me recently. When I would cock my wrists I got a shooting pain in my hand so I just didn't take the club back all the way. It went away the next day.
  4. Thanks, I appreciate it. For the record, I wasn't particularly proud of myself after doing it, I know it was a crappy thing to do, I just lost my cool for a moment, probably because after a solid 6 holes at +1, I went double, quad, but that's a pisspoor excuse for that type of action. Thank you for the bluntness, and I'll be sure to act more maturely next time.
  5. I went out to a course near my house the other day around 5:30 so I could squeeze in a quick nine. The starter informed me that I had to let a pair of older guys making the turn tee of in front of me, so I complied and watched as each of there three tee shots totaled about 136 yards. I joined up with a threesome also making the turn, and we played significantly faster than the god awful twosome in front of us. Seven horrible holes I watched these fossils top, shank, and whiff just about every shot so I fanally decided to roll a drive up to their feet. Sure enough, when I got up to my ball, they were still in the fairway where they had been when I teed off, probably on somewhere around their 32nd mulligan of the round. I stood next to my ball, leaning against my club in hopes that they would see my exasperation and let us play through, but no. On the 9th tee box, I was completely fed up. They were roughly 260 out into the fairway so I decided to air mail one over their heads, and sure enough I cranked just about the biggest drive of my life and watched it sail over their heads. I yelled "fore," but this did not coax them as I saw one of them staring at me. They then rode up to my ball and one guy hopped out of the cart and chucked my ball into the river on the left. Now, I know intentionally hitting over someone is just about the worst thing you can do, but these two guys were the slowest golfers I had ever seen and refused to let us play through them, despite us waiting for them on just about ever tee box. So...who was more rediculous? Me or the slowest golfers the world has ever seen that gunned my ball into a river?
  6. I was about 95 out in some trees with my ball sitting about 4 feet behind and to the right of one of them. I could make a full backswing, but my follow through would connect with the tree pretty much immediately after impact. It was a baby tree so I figured it wouldn't hurt my hands so I took a full swing with my sand wedge and stuck it to three feet and tapped in for birdie.
  7. I came really close the other day on a 290 yd hole pretty far downhill. There was no fringe on the green so I couldn't even say I drove the fringe, but it was about 7 inches or so from the dancefloor. The pin was all the way in the back uphill so I ended up three putting for par, hard to argue I suppose.
  8. After a 10 yard drive: "I'm gonna need my long iron." Stoicism is key on this one.
  9. Best round of my life yesterday, didn't really feel like it though. I shot 81 (44-37) with 2 gut-wrenching blown 3 foot bridie putts. Oh well, just makes me want to break 80 that much more next time.
  10. For the most part I only care about sections. Top section: Driver, 3 wood, 2 and 3 hybrids Left Middle: PW, 9, 8 --- Right Middle: 7, 6, 5 Bottom: Putter, 56, 60 The only thing I'm really OCD about is in the top section, my towel has to seperate the Driver and 3 wood from the 2 and 3 hyrbids.
  11. I just started thinking about this the other day, too. I dropped a bunch of balls on the course from about 100 out on every hole and really tried to concentrate on taking a divot with my sand wedge, but everytime I tried I just chunked it (mission accomplished I guess).
  12. Michigan's has got to be Arcadia Bluffs. While I've yet to be able to play there, my friend has and he tells me it's absolutley beautiful and as close to British golf as you can get.
  13. I started playing that rule today actually. I got my first 3 holes in one.
  14. Played a strange nine today with 6 pars, 2 doubles, and 1 triple for a 7 over 42. My putting was especially good, with some 15+ foot par saves, some mental errors cost me the big numbers.
  15. 6 players play for each team, and the 4 lowest from each club get added up and the team with the lowest total score is the winner. My advice would be to think of it like any other round you've played with your buddies, just relax and have a good time.
  16. Whenever I push the ball it's because I don't finish my follow through completely, but if it's a persistent thing, than it might be bacause your right elbow is too far away from your torso on the downsiwng.
  17. The Penguins are talented, but they flat out don't have enough experience to beat the Wings of all teams in the playoffs. I like the things I've been reading about Hossa, I think he will be a key player, but my eye will be on Crosby, if he can show some maturity and step up to the plate against a team with such two-way firepower like Detroit, then the Wings might have some trouble. The way the Pens have Malkin and Crosby seperated could cause trouble for the Wings, but with the Euro Twins (Datsyuk and Zetterberg), both of whom, I might add, are nominated for the Selke Trophy (best defensive forward) locking down either one of them, and the Wing's tenacious checking line, the other, not to mention Nicklas Lidstrom, whose 6th Norris Trophy is ready to grace his mantle yet again, playing 30 minutes a game...I just can't see the Pens lasting more than 6 games against a team so dominant.
  18. 1) 17 2) 3 3) 14.3
  19. My 2 favorites are "How I Play Golf" by Tiger Woods, and "Golf My Own Damn Way" by John Daly. I bought JD's book more for entertainment purposes, but it actually proved to be pretty helpful.
  20. -Get more consistent, i.e. consistently breaking 90 and hopefully 80 at least once rather than blowing up for a 105 in a conference tournament (it happened). -Don't lose my cool after one bad shot, remember that golf is supposed to be fun, that's the mean reason why my score inflates sometimes.
  21. I shot 40 in a school match today good enough to earn myself medalist. Our number 1, a 4 handicap, had an off day with a 42. My score should've been a whole lot lower considering I two putted every hole, missing 6 birdie putts in the process.
  22. I hit my drive into a group of trees on a short dog leg par 4 trying to hit a cut around them, which left me about 40 yards. I punched an 8 iron that hit the stick and bounced to about 15 feet and 2 putted for par.
  23. Screwed the pooch on the 9th hole for a 41 in some big wind. A tree branch actually fell on my next tee box while I was on the green because it was so windy.
  24. 83 with a 38 on the front. The back was the most depressing bogey golf of my life.
