Shot 40 on a quick nine after work. Had 19 putts so a bit disappointed with that, but almost holed an eagle from 156 out.

need help to hit draw shot w/ driver
elsito99 replied to itzzzberny's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I am in a similar situation, I can hit it straight or a slight cut. Last month I learned how to hit a baby draw. As mentioned the things I have tried to handle the draw are: In my experience both of them worked but I am trying to stay with the last one, I'll explain. 1. Aim right (everything, as if you want to hit to the right trees). Close clubface aiming it towards the middle or left FW. Same swing along your line. This works but for me at least, sometimes I just hit it straight into the trees with no draw, so it is too risky. 2. Aim to the middle or middle right of the FW. Take a normal grip and just think to myself, hook this into the left trees. I have noticed I just release the hands enough to hit a baby draw. The difficult part is tinkering with the grip. If I use a stronger grip than usual, that swing thought will become reality, so go to the range and see if you can draw it with one of these methods. If you try #2 and suddenly start seeing yourself releasing too much and hooking it, take a weaker grip, ie. Hogan. -
Wilson STAFF vs Wilson STAFF's reputation
elsito99 replied to Paddymaster's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am playing Wilson Ci7's and get a lot of good comments at the course. Most "good" golfers know Wilson Staff is a terrific brand. In my case, I hit a lot of irons, and found the Ci7's to be the best for my handicap and price. I will recommend them to anyone from 0 to 25. Maybe 0 to 5 the pi5, but that is it. The only irons I like more are the Mizzu mp-62. Don't forget they beat Titleist, cobra, nike, etc, etc on the Golf Digest thing. -
Hey guys, I have been looking for a new putter for a month or so. Wanted something less than $120. Went in to Edwin Watts and Golfsmith to putt around 10 times. Was set on the Ping Karsten Anser 2 for $89.99. Then I did more research and found the Cleveland Classic #1 and I am glad I did. WOW. I putted yesterday with a putter I like a lot, the Newport 2. Then I putted with the Cleveland and was amazed at the feel. I loved that it takes NO effort to get the ball moving (like the Scotty and unlike my current putter), so that will mean less putts short. It feels VERY, very similar to the Scotty. I went online to check more reviews, and there you have it, most people say it feels exactly as a Scotty, but for, get this, $69.00 . As some people on this site have said, please take a look at this putter if you are in the market. Milled face with awesome feel and roll. I am picking mine today at Edwin Watts and heading for the course after work. Will follow up.

From tour collection to Wilson Ci7's - First "REAL" set

Hey Future how are the pi5's? Have you hit the ci7's to compare them? Those were in my list along with the mp-60's. -
how do "you" define high, low, mid handicap golfers?
elsito99 replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
For me there are 5 groups rather than 3 Low: 60's to 76 Mid-low: 77-85 Mid-high: 86-95 High: 96-115 "Beginner": 116+ -
I think you may have something with the Iphone. Maybe email or chat while waiting just to relax. Of course I would have to get an Iphone first. Just to give you guys more insight, I am pretty chill at the course. I don't get angry, frustrated or anything. I wasn't angry because of the slow play but rather just lost every bit of mojo waiting. I always think it is better to be at the course than at home or the office, but this was a bit too much. I see this happening to guys in the PGA also. Remember a tournament where I saw Camilo chilling with Greg Norman in between tee shots. They waited like 15 minutes to tee off and I remember thinking they were a bit off after that wait.

Guys, I need some tips to not lose concentration when meeting a road block. Yesterday I went to play 9 holes after playing 27 Saturday at 2 difficult courses. I shot 45, 47, 41. After the 41 I felt good so went out to another course on SUN to play 9. Started with a bogey in the easy first par 5, but then 4 pars and a bogey. So I am +2 through 6 and hole #8 is a birdie hole so I am feeling pretty well. Get to the tee at 7 and there is a road block. I take a look, groups at the tees, FW's, greens, you catch my drift. Lots of not so good golfers hacking around the course, old people playing from the blues (true story, and older gentleman, about 80-85, playing from the tips and driving it 120 yards at most). So we wait about 10-15 minutes to tee off. One of the guys I was playing with says this is too much and leaves. We now are just 2 playing. With a wait of 10-20 minutes per shot, I shot a 6 over on the last 3 holes, including triple, bogey, double, for a 44. Should have left and finished the round another time. Anyways, do you guys have tips for coping with slow play and not letting it get to you? Chipping in place, at the tee? sunbathing?? drinking? reading?

On casual rounds do you "caddy" for your partner?
elsito99 replied to Iowa Hawkeye's topic in Golf Talk
I always caddy for my buddy. I give him advice on wind, shot, yardage, even what club to hit. That is because we have been playing for 2 years (since I started), I am now shooting 80's, 90's and he is still in the 110's. He likes my advice as I am pretty analytical and can read the wind very well. When he takes my advice he scores good (bogey) when not, he posts big numbers. ie. I tell him to punch a 4 iron to 10 yards off the green, he says he likes fw wood going for the green, then hooks it to the water, and posts an 8 or 9. When he punches, chips and 2 putts for a bogey. -
From tour collection to Wilson Ci7's - First "REAL" set

Hey WRX, The Ci7's are incredible. I shot a 41 today in a 9 hole round. Broke my record in part because of the irons. They are very long, so still adjusting. Today I flew a green with a 138 9 iron. My normal 9 iron went 120. As far as flex, I can tell you I am VERY happy I went with regulars. Used to play stiff but there is NO need. I hit the irons higher and longer with regulars, no change in accuracy. You will love the Ci7's, just get them. For the price nothing can touch them IMO, not Titleist, nothing. The flighted shafts are awesome for the long irons. Man I just love towering high 4 irons. As far as swing speed, I would estimate mine to be in the mid 90's. My longest drives are about 275, short around 220, average 250. 150 yards is a full 8 iron. Let me know if you have any questions. -
Looking for a course in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami
elsito99 replied to acj990's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
If you can play Doral, Crandon Park, Miami Shores, Miami Beach, Country Club of Miami. http://www.doralresort.com/Golf/golf.asp http://crandongolfclub.com/golf/proto/crandongolfclub/ There are a ton of courses you can play, in Ft. Laudi try the Weston area. -
Don't forget the Wilson Ci'7's. If this helps I also shoot higher 80's. They beat the other options you have in the Golf Digest 2008 competition thing. Very nice looking iron, high MOI but workable and about $350 new if you want to save $300 bucks. I couldn't be happier ( I got them used for $260 ).

High Handicapper Needing a 3 wood
elsito99 replied to korndawg's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Adams FW woods are awesome, don't know if you want a good deal, but I got my Adams tight lies 3 wood for $9.97 at Sports Authority. I've hit my friend's TM and prefer the Adams. -
I want to have Rory's swing, but Camilo's transition is aweeesome.
-
Shoot 40 in 9 and less than 85 in 18.
-
Shot a 42, that could should would been a 40 for two stupid 3 putts. 42 is currently my record for 9 holes, I thought I could break it today. Reason the round was good was the massive draw that went 15 yards longer that my average drive. Definitely will keep playing the draw from now on.

Use it and love it. Checks beautifully, a poor man's ProV1 is what they call them.

Any of you change ball for windy days?
elsito99 replied to elsito99's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
This may be the case for my round last Sunday. Some drives started very low but with the right amount of spin so they went hard under the wind. Others started a bit higher and with more spin so they ballooned horribly. Yesterday I played 9 after work and though the wind wasn't as hard, it was still blowing. My only birdie of the day came on a par 5 which I used an 8 iron for 105 yards, basically a long pitch. Stopped just on the fringe and holed the chip. Definitely I have to play different shots for windy SFLA. I noticed I rarely use the full wedge towering high to the green. -
I have a Tour Collection putter to which I added about 3 strips of lead tape. I love the weight and feel, and would like to know or approximate the head mass before buying my new putter (Ping B60) to know the difference in grams between the putter heads. Any way to do this? I don't know the initial mass without the lead tape so don't ask. I am trying to do this at home with basic elements, no swingweight or anything. TIA

Any of you change ball for windy days?
elsito99 replied to elsito99's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Maybe it was the holes I played with the prov1, or specific shots, or mind games. But I felt the wind affected the softer ball more. And contrary to the sideways wind post, I was talking more about head and down winds. I felt the prov1 ballooned a lot more on headwind shots, but maybe it was just the shots themselves. Anyways, next round I will switch again and see what happens. -

elsito99 replied to elsito99's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Have you played those?? It would be interesting to keep a good wind ball in the bag for days like that. -
Sunday shot 93 in what felt like 30 mph wind all day, mostly against us. It turned long par 4 into 5's and so on. I had a very good time from the tee, but that improved slightly when I changed from a ProV1 to a NXT tour. I "felt" that it pierced the wind more than the Prov1. I got 2 drives higher than I wanted (with the prov1) and the wind took them for a complete distance of about 150 if at all. With the NXT I had a 264 drive which is very good for me and the conditions. So is it better to change to a harder ball on windy days? or is this just a placebo effect??
