I have been struggling on my home track this year, turning in several rounds in the mid-low 50's. I am scratching my head, but I think I have found the answer. Beer. Last year I swore off the stuff and started playing much better, then I got back to having a few while I played and did rather well (bottom 40's high 30's). It seems I can't correct my game when I've having a few Friday afternoon cocktails, but once I've got the swing I like I'm good to have a few. Does anyone else note their swing react this way? I'm turning off the sauce for the next few weeks until I get my Hdcp back where it was last year.

Its either my 56* wedge or my Adams 4 fairway wood.

I'll preface my post by saying that I am a life long michigan resident, hockey fan, and hockey player (never made it past juniors). The first two games the wings handily took care of the pens, and the wings were as flat as I've seen them in a while. Even Mickey Redmond on the post game call took notice that they looked out of gas in the 3rd period of game 2. Yesterday when the press showed up at the red wings skate in pitt, they were stunned to see only six players on the ice. Is this a coach thats become arrogant and complacent, or rather is this a coach that knows the value of rest for his players? Either way I think you will see a very motivated and spirited penguins team tonight, and you will quickly see them realize that they are sharing the surface with the best team in all of professional sport and once again they will come up short. My prediction is that the wings/pens split in pitt and come back to joe louis to close it out in 5 games. Maybe next time Malkin grows a pair and hauls off to hit a wings player with his stick the refs will let it roll.

How many people use an Approach/ Gap wedge?
Uthinkso replied to md2002's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I own a 52 and I am working it into the arsenal this season. I use 56 green side and my 60 out of the sand. I know thats a bit backwards and most SW are 56 but this is what works best for me. At 75yds out I can put it on with my 56, but at 90-120 I'm too close for pitching wedge and too far for the 56. I had good success with it on Sunday, so I'm confident it will start to come around. -
Callaway HX HOT balls
Uthinkso replied to Uthinkso's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I've heard that the Bite's are softer than the std HX HOT. I played 9 holes with the same ball and it had one little slice in it about a 1/4" long. Nothing big enough to start coming apart or effect ball flight. -
I've seen the show a few times, and I just can't understand what is going on there. Its like two swings in one. He starts down and stops, then regroups and finishes the swing. Its just terrible.

In my league, which plays 9 holes we figure our handicaps based on a 9 hole round like most. Then another player asked my cousin what his handicap is for 18 holes and he said it was a 5, but he is a 5 for 9 holes. So this started a heated debate on what is right. I told him at best I'll say your a 10 because your a 5 for 9 holes. I know I'm closer to the right track than he is, but can somebody clarify this issue for me?

I see the wings getting passed anaheim in six games, then we'll take it one game at a time. I have an eery feeling that we're going to meet the penguins in the finals again.

I received a free sleeve of these balls and tried them last Friday. I must say that I absolutely love them. They have great control around the green, and a soft feel that forces me to slow my swing down and hit correctly. I was using the Titleist HP2 Tour but it just didn't feel right. Last year I played some Warbirds and had excellent success as well. I think I can safely say that my ball is a Callaway.

You folks must have some big yards. I couldn't dream of practicing in my neighborhood.

Getting used to hands in front of the ball
Uthinkso replied to albatross's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I too am adjusting my stance closer to the ball with the aid of an instructor. It was actually a temporary step back in my iron performance, but I know that the good stuff is coming. He cured my slice in five minutes and it transfered to the course wonderfully. -
I have a virgin 52 and 60 degree Cleveland CG11 wedge from xmas. I have taken great care to make sure that the day the get de-flowered is a momentous occassion. Clubs can most certainly be sexy. Just like some might crouch near the rear panel of a pristine 69 camaro and stare down its razor sharp body line. Sexy takes many shapes.

Things you must have in your bag, or atleast say you do

My Michigan State Spartans divot repair tool with magnetic ball marker must be clipped on my pocket before I start a round. -
Who has played one, owns one, any of the above. Your thoughts? I saw one at Carl's Golfland and was just intrigued that the club existed. Kind of like seeing Bigfoot in a golf store. I'd read about it, but never seen it up close. I decided not to hit it since my golf brain was already fatigued for the day.

Taylormade r9 Irons in 2009 ?
Uthinkso replied to Andaluzian's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I tried the current Tour Burner at my local golf shop and I liked them a lot. For the price point you really can't go wrong. -
Off-topic but I have to ask. How do you stomach warm salad? That wouldn't sit well with me at all.

One of my team mates in my golf league is hypoglycemic. He carrys a sandwich or a granola bar in his golf bag when we play. We walk nine holes and he normally is in the goods by hole four. He did mention he quit drinking, but other than that no real big changes in his life.

I want to add to this. I've played with some people that look through the woods and tree lines while they are waiting for other players to hit. I find this very rude and inconsiderate. Here I lining up my approach shot, and I have this guy in the woods like Tarzan tearing through trees and in general being a distrubance. Yet when that guy is up he expects it to be library quiet. Some people just need to put their clubs on ebay.

Yeah I was taking great enjoyment today in seeing how far the balls would bounce in the air after hitting the ice.

A good friend of mine used to work at a Mercedes dealership, and without fail he would have two or three people a week come test drive a car they could never afford. When it was slow he didn't really mind, but at times he saw it as a waste of time. Being in a commission sales structure, you must sell to get paid obviously. So I could see his point to some degree. Right about now your probably asking what this has to do with golf, I'm getting there. ;) I was at our local Carl's Gofland today hitting different irons (stuck between the MX-200 and Tour Burner) and I saw several other folks doing the same as I was. When I went back in to swap out the 6i for a 4i, the salesman thanked me for not wasting his time. I kind of stopped for a second, then asked him to repeat himself. He says that so many folks come to the store hit clubs, and never spend a dime in there. Worse yet (in his mind) folks will go to the store to get fit, and then head out the door to Ebay and pick their sticks up there. He tells me that he could tell I was going to buy because of the questions I asked, etc. Which leads me to my question. Is there is a certain code of conduct, or rather a gentlemans rule to use in this situation. Being in a service business I could never go into a store and take a man's time only to purchase the item elsewhere for a better price. The man spent time with me to earn a sale, for me to take his time and then walk out the door and go buy on Ebay is just plain rude in my book. I understand that people are trying to stretch their golf dollar as far as possible though. Being newer to the sport (two years) I wanted to post this here for some opinion. Is this expected in the golf stores by the salesman and the like, or are some people just not considerate?

Cleveland Gold Irons....owners inside.
Uthinkso replied to Uthinkso's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
OK update on the iron saga for those keeping score at home. :) I went to a local golf store today and tried the following clubs in a 6i: Callaway X22 Taylor Made Tour Burner CG Gold Mizuno MX200 CG Red Firstly let me say that today's expedition was intended to make a final decision and purchase today. I left scratching my head and in awe of two clubs........anyone? anyone? Thats right! The MX-200 and the Tour Burner. Both share the common price point of $699, but the burners were on sale for $499 until their inventory was depleted. Not that price point matters in selection, but its good to know. All that aside, I did enjoy the CG golds and CG reds, if I was going that road I would go with the golds still. I just don't feel my game is at the level of the reds. My mis-hit shots with the golds were still playable where as the red seems to be a little more demanding of a pure stroke. For now I think Cleveland will have to be content to be my choice in tee box and the wedge game, sorry Cleveland:(. With that said, the offset of the burner gave me the perception that the club was slightly longer (or so I'm told). I had much better posture with that club, and most importantly did not feel like I had to work the club. Rather I just put a nice controlled swing on it and the club took care of the rest. Very forgiving. My balls I hit well with the 6i were past the 175yd flag, the softer ones settled in front the flag. The Mizuno's I had heard a lot about on these forums and in the latest golf rags, but I had never personally hit one. I had planned to hit them, more or less as a formality to simply eliminate them from the group. In all honesty, I wasn't really intending to give them a fair shake but wanted to satisfy my golf brain. I can say that Mizuno is bar none the nicest club I have hit. Every single shot went right where I put it, trajectory was noticably lower than the burner and it was also a little shorter. However the accuracy was un-matched by any other club I hit today. So my plan now is to go back in two weeks time without any form of payment (buyers remorse fits me like a glove) and hit 4i, 6i, PW of both the MX200 and the Tour Burner. I kind of feel like I am dragging my feet a bit, and I'm sure that the folks in the golf store are ready to kill me. Its an important purchase to decide on though, and I don't want to be hasty. This is going to be the set I play until I reach single digits, and I want to make sure I get the set that best fits me. I need to get fit for my clubs, but my golf monger says to try off the rack clubs first and then they will make sure that the club is fit to me correctly. Seems a bit backwards to me, but I'm sure to have 20 questions on that as well. Thank you all for reading my novel, the golf gods will reward you with many birdies :)
