Honestly, your chances are minimal and border on impossible. The number of tour pros who picked up the game at age 13+ is going to be tiny. I can't think of any examples off the top of my head but would be interested to hear of any that others can think of. I would wager that to become to PGA tour pro you would need enough talent to get down to a +1 handicap fairly soon after puberty and getting there without much in the way of coaching. Having that level of natural ability would leave room for top coaching to take you down to a +3 and beyond (the level needed to even have a sniff of getting a web.com tour card let alone PGA.

Agree 100% with EJ. The instruction with evolvr is the better than every single instructor I've had in person lesson with any A LOT cheaper. 30 mins with a local pro may set you back $70 so I would say you owe it to yourself to give evolvr a shot for 2 months and see how you get on.

I shall remember the name for when I'm next looking for lessons, thank you!

Low pitch shot that checks up and stops HOW?
FooFader replied to Crazycanuck44's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
@Mr. Desmond 's video is exactly the one I was about to post after I read the OP. Despite being a bit of a long video to watch it is very informative. It's not a shot I play on the course yet though for two reasons: I don't practice enough short game to have the confidence in the shot nor do I have any feel for distance with it I often am not playing a urethane covered ball than will check up as I'd want. I am guilty of just playing whatever balls I find -
Now that is cool. But it looks like an easy maze to get through

Welcome! I will echo @David in FL in that that's some impressive speed with the relatively short club. Have you tried hitting a driver recently? I suspect that if you are swinging better than ever you might have success with the driver of you try it out again
-
@jballard388 , If your ball speed was correct at 170mph then you could maybe squeeze you 10 more yards with optimal launch numbers but for a 155-165mph ball speed then that would be a good carry distance. A good tool to play around with is flightscope optimizer, it lets you plug in some launch numbers and see what happens! http://flightscope.com/products/trajectory-optimizer/

Yesterday's results where pretty crazy! Fingers crossed Liverpool can take 3 points this afternoon to capitalise on Man city slipping up against stoke

I recommend you heed this advice @webb1522 . This game is hard but it is a lot of fun! I would say as someone new to the game forget about birdies! Play with the mindset of bogey is good, par is a bonus but try to keep anything more than double bogeys off the card. One of my favourite sayings I've heard is simply, "Par is good, just make pars"... I think it came from Mark Crossfield actually

Thanks for the advice. I do backup but probably not as regularly as i should... I currently back up the system to my external hard drive once a fortnight and both my system image and my data onto dropbox every week. I do often forget though.

Now that I can get a solid state drive (SSD) with 250GB storage for under £120 (about $200 for everyone else in the US), I'm seriously considering upgrading my laptop with one. I've read numerous reviews that seem 100% positive, you get faster boot, longer battery life, cooler and quieter system. Currently looking at this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDSSDHP-256G-G25-Internal-2-5-inch-Device/dp/B0093HMLAS/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1409399401&sr;=1-1&keywords;=250gb+ssd For me the only downside is I have a lot of media on my current hard drive, about 300GB of music, films and TV. But i can work around that by getting rid of stuff I no longer need and also buying a external hard drive to store it all on. Just wondering if anyone here has upgraded to SSD and would be kind enough to share a quick review or any words of advice.

Listening to Royal Bloods album, a great rock album IMO. They are doing very well here in the UK. Also just purchased Ed Sheeran's new album on recommendation of my sister. I'll give that a listen this week.

I usually warm up by stretching for a minute or so. I then hit putts for 5 minutes to try and get i feeling for the green speed that day, although we all know a lot of putting greens play nothing like the greens on the course... I'll then move over to the warm up nets just behind the first tee and take some easy swings with my gap wedge, working my way up to full shots. i'll only hit maybe 10 shots but without much time in between, it's not practice after all. Then i feel ready to play. On the first tee, i'll usually take 5 practice swings or so though just to make sure I'm loose. I find that's plenty for me. If i go to the range and hit a bucket before i play it make either make or break me. By that I mean that if i hit the balls well then I will feel good on the first few holes and have confidence in my swing but if i hit some poor shots on the range I'll have zero confidence on the course. In that case I know I'm on for a high scoring round. That's why I don't like seeing ballflights right before I go play. I know that if I make good swings I'll hit pushdraws so that's what I play for the first few holes
-
No saying you're right or wrong but just because someone CAN hit it X distance doesn't tell you much about handicap nor now good their long-game is. Also a lot of people here would argue that long game ability is always holding you back but that's OT. Also which driver do you play? I don't think i've ever seen anyone i know play the driver off the deck shot with and sort of success.
-
Seems logical to me I think though, as you say, it is splitting hairs. Just use whichever you feel most comfortable with. Yes the extra 10 yards is a good weapon to have, but i know a lot of very good players choose a 4W over a 3&5W to save that space for an extra wedge or just because that little extra loft gives them that little bit more confidence in hitter the straighter off the deck and from the tee.

I do feel sorry for him really. He was such a good young player at Madrid and then came to liverpool and was practically a god. Then got snapped up by the big money offers and has never really had a good game since. Sad to see him struggle so much and almost become a villain at chelsea.
-
I guess I'm lucky then that the largest baskets of balls at my local range is only 20! If you want any more you have to go back up for seconds! Only problem is the mat are s**t, the balls are s**t and there is barely space to film swings. Practice nets are for sure the way to practice for those of us who get good instruction (i.e. know their pieces) and have access to high-speed video to keep tabs on progress

Any chelsea fans here? If so i bet you're glad to have shipped out Torres for 2 years!

You obviously hit the ball pretty far so this would be my thought process going through the choices... You're going to be hitting most par 5s in 2 (or have the distance to at least). I would play the 13.5 only if you need it to reach the par 5s, if you can get to all the ones with a 15 that you could a 13.5 then switch it out, those 10 yard won't gain you much but the extra height and ability to stop a 15 more quickly could be a greater scoring tool. But that trade off will depend on the courses you play. Regardless of the 3W you choose i would drop the 5W for sure. IMO, that 10/20 yard gap would be better served by a 2-hybrid that plays 20 yards longer than a 3-iron because 200-230 will be a range where you'd prefer the extra options over having the options at 250-270.

I feel your pain. I don't even have a 5sk instructor in my country I know that i probably could find very good instruction within a reasonable distance i can never bring myself to go see them. Firstly, i have seen 2 very poor instructors who are local. One told me i just needed to keep my head down and swing to a better tempo... i won't be going back to him!! Secondly, i don't really know how i could test them out before laying down a weeks worth of expendable income. (Quizzing him before hand or asking for a ten minute taster etc would come across as very rude IMO).

I'm now back at university so no golf for me but back in the gym. I will be following a 4 day split: chest&triceps;, back&biceps;, shoulders&core;, legs. Probably taking a rest day every third day or so. I am aiming to bulk up to somewhere near 67-68kg from 64.2kg weighed yesterday. To do this i will be aiming to consume 100g+ of protein per day and at least 2500kcals but aiming for >3000kcals whilst lifting with maximal time under tension for 15-20 sets per day in the 10-12 rep range. I will be going heavy on squats and deadlifts though, goal is to get to a 140kg deadlift and 110kg squat from around 120 and 100 at present. This week i am going to ease myself into it though after 3 weeks off, so lifting pretty light and lots of stretching. Workout yesterday: Bench press 4 sets DB incline bench 4 sets Dips 4 sets Cable flys 3 sets Cable overhead triceps extensions with rope 3 sets Cable pushdowns 3 sets

Hi, welcome to the forum firstly I would agree the swing is definitely on the flat side but I cannot give you any good swing advice so best to wait for the experts to take a look. I can however recommend you have a read of this thread: Posting a swing thread is a good place to start but the more you post in other threads the more quickly people will get to know you and be willing to help and share things on your thread. Hope you stick around!
