That's the reason they have a stigma. When I buy irons selling them is the last thing on my mind. I'd rather that they had a few nicks on them rather than picking up a brand new looking iron over and over, I bought them to play with them not to stare at them.
-
Who cares about a few nicks on your irons? They don't affect play and they make the clubs yours imo. Personally I like the sound of irons chattering as I walk, music to my ears.

Feel is pretty hard to define but I think it's just a sort of a positive reinforcement. When you hit a "player's iron" right you know if it was a good shot just by the contact. Again, it's hard to describe but hitting a shot that you know is good before you even look up is what makes the game great. "Player's irons" just amplify the feel of good shot. Thick toplines just look hideous imo. It's really just personal preference.

Cheap, good, used iron sets?
odstore replied to FlopShotArtist's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You can try looking for a used set of dci 990's or 690cb's. -
He might be playing a wedge that's not titleist.

It's always better to fix your swing rather than buy equipment that might help mask the problem imo.

Is anybody still playing these irons? I decided to pick up a set because I always wanted a set of blades. I've been playing the same irons for probably 6 years and I'm ready for something else. I'm looking forward to playing a set that is gonna demand more out of my game. I don't play competitively anymore so I don't think there's any reason for me to pick forgiveness over feel. Can't wait to start hitting these. I'm also switching from r300's to s300's which should give me a little more control. Any thoughts on the transition?

Cutting it down will probably mess up the balance of the putter.

I'm not trying to be condescending but if you have a ball speed of 175 then you need to find a new driver because you should be hitting your drives a lot farther than that regardless of what ball your hitting.
-
If you swing 110+ you should be able to compress the nike blacks without a problem so I don't know why they would be "too hard." On a side note, you swing 110+ at 15? And how do you only hit your driver 245?

How do you put spin on the ball?
odstore replied to King Cobra II's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I know what you're saying here but they're two different shots, and both are useful. When you have a pin that's tucked behind a bunker it's very nice to be able to throw the ball past the hole and have it come back tight. Also, I think it's important for people to realize there's a time and place for both shots and controlling the amount of spin can also be very helpful when spinning the ball back isn't advantageous. -
Frustrating Day At the Range...
odstore replied to paddlefoot's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Try not to lose your head when you're making a swing change. When you change something major it takes a lot of practice to get it to stick. I also have to agree that a 4 iron probably isn't the club you want to hit 200 times to fix your swing. My advice is to realize that a good swing isn't born with one trip to the range so just relax and take it one step at a time. Just stick with it and you'll get it. -
Definitely need to work on your balance. You shouldn't be falling over after you hit the ball no matter what's on your feet.

When I was in high school we shared our home course(which I worked at) with a private school in the area so there were a lot of rich kid members that always had a couple grand worth of clubs in there bag but were completely average golfers. One day I joined with a couple of them for a round. They both claimed to be like a 6-7 handicap and I was like a 12. There was always a kind of rivalry between the public school kids and them and I ended up shooting like 2 or 3 over on the round and smoked them both. It was a good day.

What I've done in the past to help cure the shanks is to start hitting 3/4 trap shots. It simplifies the swing and allows you to start feeling clean contact again. I think shanks start with a couple bad swings and then escalate into a mental issue because you start to lose your mind and do all kinds of weird crap to try to get rid of them. Once you get the feel for good contact again they will go away.

I feel his pain. I really dislike playing from anything but the tips, driver/SW on every hole gets really annoying. I have a lot more fun playing when courses are 7000+ because I get a chance to hit some mid irons and get to use a larger variety of shots.

I don't think belly putters help or hurt your back. If the putter fits you then your posture should remain the same as it would with a normal putter.

How much is to much?? ( bending wedge )
odstore replied to Turbosnake's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If it's forged I don't think bending it 4º should be a problem. I'm not sure if/how it will affect the playability of the wedge but as far as if it can be done, I'd say definitely. -
Driver, 7-iron, SW I used to putt around with my SW all the time when i was working at a course, and i would just chip the 30+ footers .

Don't switch golf ball brands during play
odstore replied to JYB's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You've got to be kidding me. So you're going to play one ball for the rest of your life? I'm definitely not. When new balls come out buying a sleeve and seeing how they work for you is a smart thing to do. How are you supposed to find the ball you like if you don't try more than one? It's not a rule, except in specific tournaments. -

Your opinion doesn't make it a rule. -
Where in the rules does it say you can't switch brands of balls in between holes?
-
If you're talking about the interchangeable weights I don't think that's crazy. My r5 has interchangeable weights but I think changing them affects the swing weight more than anything. It's a lot easier (and looks a lot better) to pop different screws in to make the club head heavier than to cover it with lead tape. And if you want the head lighter on a normal club you're just plain SOL.
-
I recently made the switch from 588 rtg's to the tm z tp's after trying a bunch of different wedges out. They are great wedges imo. They felt a little light so I through some lead tape on them but other than that they feel great. The one thing I will say is that the grooves are really sharp so if you're worried about chewing up balls you might want to go a different route.

The other day this four some was letting me play through and I hit a drive through the fairway that went right behind a pine tree. They had already hit their drives and were waiting out where their drives were. I walked down to my drive and when I get there the guy says "great drive," as I'm grabbing a wedge to punch out. I thought it was a pretty ridiculous thing to say since he could see that I had no shot at the green. I guess long=good for some people (regardless of where the ball goes).
