What clubs for novice looking to improve?
Amoretti replied to Amoretti's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm not really a 36hdcp, although I'll probably still end up getting these clubs. I just don't want to hear a bunch of crap from people about these being seniors clubs. -

Haha, I should have changed that. I haven't calculated my handicap, but I generally shoot in the 90's. -

So I talked to a golf buddy about this set, and he thinks that getting this set is not a good idea. He says that they are primarily a set for senior citizens, and don't leave room to improve because they're just too easy to play with. Like I said in the OP, I am looking for something to help me improve. Is this set going to help me out, or is it just going to make me think I'm getting better? -
Anyone catch the "F YES!!!!!!" Tiger shouted at Steve?
Amoretti replied to Three Putt's topic in Tour Talk
I don't know if I'd be able to play without cursing. I didn't catch the F YES! but I did catch a number of GD-its from both Rocco and Tiger. NBC actually apologized for one, as it was pretty much the first thing heard on the tee off at hole 10. -

Sounds like this is the set I will be going with. I'm excited. -
http://www.winterparkcountryclub.com/ My favorite place to golf around here. It's in a beautiful part of downtown Winter Park. It's just a 9-hole walking course, but the rates are great and there's no water for me to lose my balls in. It's great for practice, and the really relaxing to walk through. The 18-hole courses in my price-range are generally pretty crappy around here.

Boxers. Always. Anything else feels completely ridiculous.

21 here. Just getting into it.

I've never been able to enjoy them much, although while in Costa Rica I bought some authentic Cubans to see if they were something I'd like. No luck, though. They just don't do it for me.

I might give this a shot next time at the range, but it seems like more of something to learn to get a "feel" of where you should be on your backswing, rather than a technique for hitting every ball.

He played awesome, all up until that suddent death hole. On the bright side, he looked like he was really having fun out there.

Will do. The bag that the set comes with looks perfect too. One of my favorite courses to practice on is walking course. I almost prefer walking. Big cart bags aren't my style. -

They're the Tight Lies "Classics." I don't know how much of a difference that makes as far as it being a great deal, although it appears that their newer sets have hybrids included, and are a bit more expensive. It seems like a great deal to me, but I really don't know that much. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ADAMS-TIGHT-...6.c0.m14.l1309 and... http://www.dealadaygolf.com It's today's special on there. -

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I did a bit of browsing today and read about Adams Tight Lies clubs being particularly forgiving. I found a full set (D, 3W, 5W, 4-PW, P) + Bag for $250. I'm kind of thinking I might go with those, because it seems like a really great deal for a new set of all matching clubs and bag that have been labeled as really forgiving. They'd go good with my Adams GW as well. What do you guys think about those? -
Indeed. Rocco really threw away that sudden death hole, but I guess that's how it goes.

As of this summer, I've been playing at least once a week, and am really enjoying the game. I've never worried about having a good set of clubs, as I was generally a once every month or two golfer. Now that I've been playing often, I'm starting to think that my clubs are not quite up to the standards that I'm looking for. I only say this after using other clubs, and then finding that I can actually drive the ball perfectly straight and quite far when using a quality driver, as opposed to the uncomfortable stance and reach I have to use to get a 1:3 straight drive out of my Billy Club. So basically, I'm looking for a decent set of irons (under $200 used) that will both help me improve my game, but also give me room to improve as a player. I don't really know if there are irons designed for "beginners" (I'm not exactly looking for a "beginner" club, more of something to grow into as I progress), but I have read about some irons being much more forgiving than others. I think I've decided to use graphite shafts to get a bit more club speed, but that is still up in the air. Also, I'd like to get a decent driver (will be buying used) that will help me primarily keep the ball headed straight. Along with that, I'd like to have at least have one fairway wood, which could possible be substituted with a hybrid 2 and 3, haven't decided yet. I'd like to have a matching set of irons and driver/woods, but it's not completely necessary, I just like things to match like that. I don't see the putter helping my game too much, so I'm not really concerned with that for now, and I have an Adams Golf gap wedge that I like, so I'm good there too. So, what do you all suggest?

Wow. Talk about one hell of a putt! I'd say Tiger definitely needed that, although his follow-up drive didn't look too pretty.

Identifying counterfeit Callaway clubs from eBay

Yeah, I agree. -
Hey guys. I'm a current student at UCF, and am becoming increasingly addicted to golf. I've played here and there for a few years, but as of this year have been itching to get out once a week. I've been mostly playing with hand-me-down clubs from friends, but came here to learn more about the game and what I should aim for as my next set of irons. I'm also trying to learn about one's handicap, and how to determine my own, and whether or not I should use it while playing. Anyway, I appreciate the help from you all in advance!

Congratulations!

More of a Halo3 fan here than anything, although I play COD4 and used to play Oblivion. fidy7crew on XBL if anyone wants to add.

I'm an avid progressive and neoclassical guitarist. I've been playing for about 8 years or so now, and still enjoy the heck out of it. As far as other hobbies, wakeboarding is definitely king. $50,000 boat to start out with, and then the gas to along with it everytime you want to ride. Add boating to the hobbie, and I suppose you can knock that kind of out of the price. Either way, all of my hobbies are way too expensive for a poor college student like me.

I'm currently an Engineering student, looking for a part-time job.
