Lob Wedge - Is it only useful in expert hands?
Robi1026 replied to Skenny's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Sorry I'm a little late to this thread but I see its been bumped by Skenny ... There's a lot of controversy surrounding "Lob" wedges ... Purists say, "its done more harm to the game than any club ever" ... ETC. IMO they are very useful, fun & versatile ... I generally don't use my 60 or 64 degree wedges for full shots ... The 60* is for green side chipping/pitching and the 64* for sand & flop shots ... I am by no means a great player, don't have an official handicap but average in the low 90's ... My playing partners are a bit better than I am and have been playing for 10+ years, I've only been playing for 4 ... The thing I notice with too many people at this level of play is trying to flop/lob the ball at the pin ... I'm learning to become a better pitcher of the golf ball and get the ball on the ground quicker & act like a putt ... Rob -
saevel25 - you are a wise man! I played stiff shafts for the past 3-4 years - just recently had a lesson with video analysis ... Instructor recommended an X-Stiff driver shaft moving forward so I purchased a demo club for $120 with an XS and the dispersion has been much tighter since I swapped shafts. I'm wondering if I need new iron/woods shafts as well ... Rob

I also launch the ball very high - I recently had a lesson with video analysis and realized I was bending by left arm at impact and adding loft to the club ...

Miguel Angel Jimenez takes the cake for me ... He might be the most interesting man in golf, but he annoys the hell out of me ... Sabbatini is a close second

I can not stand his commentary but you hit the nail on the head ... Look at us right now, in this thread = Were talking about him/he must be doing something right ... He is a polarizing figure in the sport.

Wow - This range is my problem area ... Just picked up a 64* wedge and plan on playing that between the ranges listed. Max's out @ 75-80 yards, s tops on a dime & for the 1st time I get back spin. Like most people said, it definitely ranges on conditions ... Can I pitch the ball & run it up close from 50 yards? Are there hazards? I don't worry too much about pin position due to my ability level at this point - I almost always aim for middle of the green. Rob

Difference between 3 & 4 hybrid both 21 deg?
Robi1026 replied to duckdive117's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
21 degrees is 21 degrees ... Like mentioned above - all things being equal: length / shaft / etc. distance should be the same ... Just because one is labeled a 3 and the other is a 4 - means nothing. Its a marketing ploy ... My RBZ 3i is 17.5* & a Ping I20 3I is 21* ... The specs vary by manufacturer Rob -
Left pocket = Absolutely nothing - I have a phobia - I'm quirky lol Right pocket = 2-3 tee's / lighter / extra ball Ball marker is on my cap - steelers of course ... Nothing in my back pockets ... phobia again Hold my watch, wallet, etc. in a pouch

I'm leaving my Chamblee comments to my self ... I'm a stat/data junkie due to my role in business analytics/IS ... Numbers don't lie ... Rob

LOL - we are 856 days from the OWGR date ... That's a long time ... But, its fun to project and look back to this post in 2+ years ... I'm going with: Dustin Johnson Patrick Reed Jordan Spieth & somebody we've never heard of before ... Just throwing it out there ... Rob

I love Rory but we've seen in the past what he does with a lead at the Masters ... No particular order ... Tiger Dufner Scott Day McDowell

How long were you playing until you broke 100?
Robi1026 replied to MattyMFC's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Took me 1.75 golf seasons Didn't keep score the 1st season - Started keeping score mid way thru season 2 and finally broke it that August ... 1 year later (almost exactly) broke 90 Rob -
Aren't all professional athletes arrogant? To be the best, you have to believe you are the best ... Same in the business world ... I have no problem with his attitude/comments.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Robi1026 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Finally found a used/mint condition 64* vokey ... GS had it listed at $89 - Spoke to the store manager & negotiated it down to $50 = SCORE!! -
For the masses ... Its most definitely a driving range For me: serviceable range with short game area

Changing setup based on course
Robi1026 replied to chrstianrockboy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't change based on conditions but I do change when I notice a trend ... E.G - I just took my 3 wood out of my bag and added a 5th wedge (64*) ... Reasoning: I almost never hit 3W & have trouble 100 yards and in ... -
I disagree ... Anything with Brandel Chamblee IMO is the worst show on the golf channel ... But to the OP - If I had enough money to spend I'd buy a lot of land and build a few practice holes. I'd watch the show, but I'm a golf geek ... Rob

Barrington @ Mirror Lake = HEAVEN ... or at least that's what the pictures lead me to believe ... Funny you mention that complex, because that one keeps coming up in all my searches & I find myself comparing every other complex to that one ... Big move, realistically - If everything works out as planned ... I'm thinking 6-8 weeks / But, I'll probably head down in 2-3 weeks for a long weekend to scope out the scenery, interview & sneak in 3-4 rounds of golf ...

Wedge Gapping & Bounce - Need help ...
Robi1026 replied to Robi1026's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Gents, Thanks soo much for the links & explanations ... Truly appreciated!!! I did do some research after I posted the thread ... Basically, what I've gathered is that bounce can offer greater diversity to a golf club if used properly ... http://www.golf.com/instruction/make-your-wedges-more-versatile-right-mix-bounce-angles I need some psycho analysis ... If I now know the following: Bounce helps & gives you the ability to play different shots = What I ultimately want ... Why do I still have a phobia????? Background on me: this is my 4th golf season - I was traditionally a picker (No Divots whatsoever ...) - This off season through lessons and range time, figured out the proper way to swing a golf club, hit down damn it!!! All of my lessons and time has been on matts so I have no idea what sort of divot I take - Should I wait until it warms up, examine divot patterns & then determine the right degree of bounce??? Thanks, Rob
