jesus iacas, being a little harsh are we today? hes makeing a statement... I'm a college student as well, and that doesnt mean that what i say doesn't count... Bottom line is, dont be so rough on the guy...or any guy...its a forum, meaning we all get to talk and not worry about being overly-criticized for what we post
-
i agree, the course looked like crap...dry as all hell...and as a side note did you see the length of that rough???? holy crap thats what i call ROUGH haha
-
i average around 303...and if you want to see it call me up haha... I dont see why you would lie about something as minescule as driving distance ins a FORUM where it doesnt MATTER and even if people do, let them, so long as it doesnt affect my game i dont care what people say

The course is the deciding factor as always...if phil can keep it under control, he's winning it by 4 strokes...if he goes for broke, he's 5 off the pace going into the final day... Dark Horse...Fred Funk...maybe i just like his name, but he's definetly got the game and i think he's a contender going into sunday...

2 under 69 today...hit the ball well...played a sleeve of callaway HX tour 56 today, i loved them...great feel, good spin, i actually hit two pins today...one from about 60 yards out and one from about 30...it was a good round...hopefully it'll bring the handicap down...the slope of the course is 139 course rating of 71.6...good day to play too, 90 degrees and not too humid! -lefty-

welcome mike...hope you stick around here...post often and have a good time! Lefty ...not Phil

Things you must have in your bag, or atleast say you do
Lefty2380 replied to cheffdiddy_45's topic in Golf Talk
nothing too out of the ordinary here...maybe 5 balls, 2 bags of tees (the 15 packs of 3 1/4 inch kind), 2 towels that i got for free (that way i dont care if they get extremely dirty), a brush to clean the clubs, a rule book and a dumbed-down version of the rule book (comes in handy for college golf tournements...or playing with idiots ) two pens, three sharpies in different colors, my keys, phone and wallet, a badge from my Dad's firefighter uniform, and i think that about sums it up...my clubs too, but thats not supposed to be much of a suprise Oh yea, and i have a hat...haha this is rediculous...i have a hat that is from the Air Force academy where one of my best friends is...and on the back it says "Fightin' Faloons" instead of "Fightin' Falcons"...we found the misprint ion the store and i had to have it...its embroided like that and every time i play golf i NEED to wear it... i guess thats it... -
i have a story that frustrates me beyond belief!!!! i was playing with 3 friends on a private course at about 5 in the evening. I was having a normal round (i ended up shooting 39) but its not my round that gets to me... We were just about to tee off on the fourth hole when a friend of ours shows up. Its 5:30ish on a private course on a weekday, so there's really nobody out there so we decide to let him join. here's where i get really angry with frusrtation and such... The guy, a 3 handicap...pars the 4th hole and birdies 5 through 9...thats 5 under par after 6 holes... now im sure any of us would be ESTATIC with this round....except for he LEAVES after the 9th...he could have easily broken the course record...EASILY... i dont know but it made me want to cry...and i might have...but you dont know about that...

Number ! phil fan right here, and i have to break it down right now. Right now-Phil Overall- Tiger As much as i love phil, and would love ot see him be #1, it would be completely abscentminded of me to overlook the accomplishments of tiger. what he has done in as little time he has done it is nothing short of amazing. What I love about phil is his mentality. sure it kills you to watch him take out driver with a 1 stroke lead on the tightest fairway EVER, but it makes you feel like a million dollars when he pulls off shots even tiger couldnt imagine. it's his "go at it or don't play" ideals that make me push for him. its how i play, except i REALLY make it look bad haha. Not to mention i dont think there is a better short game out there, or a player with more creativity, than phil right now! Im a lefty too, and thats reason enough for me to be a phil fan...

i wish i had the right to talk about football, but being a die-hard fan of the 49ers, i can't really talk haha...its alright, we've got 5 superbowls under our belt so that should do the talking for now...although we need to start contending real soon or else we're gunna have to change our names to the texans...

Wanted "hot" 3 wood...
Lefty2380 replied to cape cod beachfront golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i have a Taylor Made 300 series 15 degree 3 wood and i love it. it alwasy feels like you hit it better than the last time, and i can hit it about 230 with a nice trajectory. i have the Aldila NV shaft in extra stiff and its perfect for me, plus i like the color haha... I have a callaway 3 wood as well, won it with a bunch of stuff in a tournement, and i hit it about 240-245 but i seem to draw it a little. i also cant control the spin as much as i can with my taylor made...but callaway is a very dependable product... -
unfortunatly carl, i dont think earl is going to recover from death...although I'm not a tiger fan my heart goes out to him and his family, I'm sorry to hear it...

as a member of a golf team, i need to knwo the rules. I've been Captain for 3 years and 1 man for just as many, and in order to play golf on a team it is a necessity that i know the rules. However, its not like i play every practice round with the club in one hand and the rule book in the other. I dont do anything that would improve my score or otherwise better my game. if i hit a ball onto or against a wall or something (bad example, but whatever) I'm not going to risk breaking a club or my wrist so that i can have a great practice round. I admit, ill move it so i dont kill myself. in a match or a round where i am turning in the card, of course not...but for practice and such i dont feel that rules are more important than the practice itself. it is important to know the rules and be able to interpret them, but while practicing, rules should not be the deciding factor for a shot. if im alone on the course during a practice round and i hit onto a cart path, i dont measure two club lengths and drop, ill just move it to the nearest point of relief. this is obviously not to say i dont know what to do in said situation, but to be so meticlious as to do this during every practice round seems absured to me...If you intend on becoming pro, go ahead, but if you just get out and play, and perhaps play in tournements and whatnot, following the rules is not the focus of a practice round. I say, as long as you dont do anything dramatic or round-changing, its fine during practice...

I usually like to putt on the practrice green with my Ipod on, which for me personally, helps me to focus more...and it also helps in that i dont get distracted easily. As for a song, if im looking to get PUMPED before a match It'll fall along the lines of Rage Against the Machine or Nirvana If i just wanna be relaxed, it will mnost likely be Pearl Jam, Audioslave, or Jimi Hendrix (I'm a guitar player too, so its appreciated) Music does help me, but if i get one stuck in my head like a ball in a St. Andrews Bunker, I'm in trouble because it can enter my mind while im trying to sink a put or hit a key shot....so i guess it goes both ways....

HAHAHA Dude i am VERYYYY impressed, you just quoted Wayne's World and that makes me a very happy man....you ROCK -
trust me when i say ive played almost every wedge out there...its amazing what company's adjust to try to get you to believe that they are "new and Improved" anyways, i agree with the fact that unless you are hitting full shots the whole time, there is no reason to shorten the "gap" between clubs. if that was the case you might as well carry a 5 1/2 iron, 5 2/3 iron, etc etc....its just not plausable...i go with a 48* PW which i can hit accuratly anywhere from 150 in, a 56* which is my favorite wedge (i can put any amount of spin on it and its really accurate from 120 in) and a lob wedge i use from 100 in to get over any obsticles. so to carry a 52* wedge so that i can hit shots from 130 in is just rediculous. I feel that its almost better to have only 2 or 3 wedges so that you learn to shape shots more and you can rely on certain shots from certain clubs. i have played at least ten rounds with only one of each of those weges in my bag so that i can learn exactly what i can do and how i can exeute certain shots. Summary of my babble: Go with 2 or 3 like you have, but to say that 3 or 4 degrees is to big of a gap is slightly crazy...

im pretty sure no club is worth over a grand.... unless its an extra hand that can carry the ball 450 yards and place it in the hole...in that case im in... -
I like it, its got some good distance to it, you can control the spin pretty well, and i think that the best part is the durability. i usually switch balls about four times a round but i only had to at the turn with the E5...so its a pretty good ball....im thinking about making them my Go-to, but i prefer the Pro-V1x or some others, its really all up to the person who plays them...i suggest you go out and buy a dozen and just play a few rounds and see what you think personally...

It would have to be Phil Mickelson, Natalie Gulbis, and my Dad Phil- Lefty, my hero, and an awesome guy, probably the nicest guy on tour who can still win! Natalie- well im sure we all know this one, not to mention if i hit a bad shot i could look at her and realize that things arn't that bad when you're playing with the hottest girl on tour... My Dad- got me into the game early, helped me play often. simple as that....oh yea, and the simple fact that hes MY DAD (he'd probably kill me if i left him out besides haha)

I appreciate all of your comments so far, it's been great! I see from the second question that most people dont think it makes the game easier, and i would have to agree to a certain extent. But i guess with some of the responses people are saying "added bunkers, tighter fairways and smaller greens solve that issue". I can see where that comes from, but i guess my question then would be when will it stop? technology doesn't, nor will it ever stop advancing. So when does the golf course stop adding bunkers, tightening fairways, and making greens redicliously small? My opinion as far as technology goes is simple. Don't change the rules. The game of golf is difficult no matter what name brand you carry in your bag. i dont care if you spend $5000 on your custom top-of-the-line brand or made them yourself from scrap metal, a player plays the game, not the equipment (I know, its a stretch, but I wanted to get my point across...). I think that the USGA should hold firm to its rules for now, because i don't want the game of golf to ever be mastered. which, by the way, i feel that nobody has ever MASTERED the game. Find me the Perfect player and i will sell you my soul...thats how sure I am... I like having a limit on clubs, but it is costly and it makes me lack confidence in my club selection. I carry a bunch of my extra clubs in the trunk of my car (a few drivers, a set of irons, a few wedges, and 2 putters....its a lot, and i have more at home...) to prepare for the conditions. I have assembled a lot of my own clubs, and i really enjoy doing so. but to have to pick 14 clubs and know that you need to hit any shot with only 14 clubs to choose from can mess with you. however, although i seem to be complaining a lot, i would not want them to increase the limit. if you cant pull off the round with 14 or less clubs, then you cant consider yourself a true golfer. i think that golf would be CRAZZZZZYYY if everyone carried ten drivers with different lofts and ones to favor the draw or fade, a myriad of irons to account for ANY distance, and wedges covering every degree and bounce combination imaginable. if that were the case, what fun would golf be?? I'm sure you are familiar with "3-club golf" which, in my opinion, is a GREAT way to become a versitle player. in addition, it also goes to show that golf does not need to be played with all 14 clubs. As for a single piece of advice, I'll admit, i cant find just one. I'm sure you've heard them all, but i'm going to list a few anyways... 1) Play smarter not harder...my dad always tells me this and if you think this to yourself before committing to a difficult or near-round-killing shot, you minght just be able to salvage your round. So in other words the Brain prevails over the muscles... 2) Keep your head down 3) swing with confidence and control. 4) KEEP YOU'RE COOL, NO MATTER WHAT. This is how i have won a lot of matches...opponent hits a bad shot or two, gets flustered, doesn't take his time...and its over...it sticks with him for the rest of the round...which leads me to the next and last one for now... 5) Dont dwell on the past, take it one hole at a time one shot at a time one breath at a time. dont think for a second about that missed 3 footer for birdie or that sliced drive. its a mental game, and in order to keep your game in check you need ot have selective memory on the course. I dont have any more than that for now, but please, keep responding and if you have any questions for me or anyone, feel 110% free to ask, as long as its golf related of course...

Hey, I'm mike and im currently an 8 handicap...I play every day for my HS golf team, and i am continuing my career in college shortly. When not playing for my team, i am at my local course practicing and playing for hours on end. I'd have to say that Golf is just what i love. But i do have a few quesitons for anyone who feels like replying. Everyone thinks they know the basics of the game, but thats not true. Golf is a game where we are constantly learning new things. Especially now, with the new age of technology pushing golf further and further along, new legal limits are being met and pushed every day. So here are my couple of Questions...and no, you won't be graded on this 1) do you think the USGA should reconsider their limits on certain prospectives such as COR limit or club limit or anything of the such? 2) Is technology making the game of golf fall lower in terms of its level of sport-hood? does technology make the game of golf easier to play? 3)If you could tell a person new to the game any one piece of advice, what would it be? 4) Match play or stroke (medal)? 5) is golf about strength, consistancy, keeping the right state of mind, or something else? thats all for now, I'd appreciate some answers, as well as any other questions anyone else may have! thanks a lot... Mike
