so I joined up in a league with a buddy of mine on tuesdays at a pretty descent course.. we played last week with a fun group.. unfortunately the best avg in the league is 43. Yesterday I played 9 holes that took 3 hrs, 15 minutes to play. I hit every shot solid.. and still shot 43. Couldn't put to save my life.. My partner shot 41 ... but the team we were playing with shot 55 and 60... easily. sprayed each tee shot .. searching for balls on every hole.. 3 putting or more. I just couldn't focus and finish a hole. It was insane, especially it was a beautiful day, 70, sunny, no wind.. and I was puring every shot .. drove a 300 yd par 4 only to 3 putt from 20 feet. 9 was a 527 yd par 5 .. drove it to 215 right down the middle, uphill 2nd, nutted a 4 iron but came up short .. chip up to 5 feet, make par. 1st hole, nutted a drive on a 400 yd par 4 to 105 yds, wedge spun off the green, chipped up and made 5. one of those kind of days. Just could not focus hearing these two players bitch and moan.. slam clubs all day long.. etc.

GolfTec Golf Lessons - Feedback, Discussion
BigDaddy_Sean replied to chauvotsm's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
yup.. I tried it and it sounded about the same. -
my first 9 holes I shot 65. It was tryouts for the high school golf team. I ended up averaging 53 that year. sophomore year 47. junior year 43. senior year 40 and all conference.
-
well there was always an old saying Jack Nicklaus had, he never tried to hit a straight shot. He would always force a fade or draw, usually fade.
-
it all depends.. When you get up to having a lot of distance, a lot of pros prefer fades. I personally generally draw the ball, but I would really rather have a fade as when I am swinging poorly I pull the ball left.

You've just got to hate Scotty!
BigDaddy_Sean replied to misty_mountainhop's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i have 2 scotty's .. a pro platinum mil spec and a circa '62 .. yesterday I had 13 putts in 9 holes for a 37. couldn't hit a green but holed every par putt i had including a 25 footer on the first hole :) -
During college days we played till Mid November .. I remember many 20 - 30 degree days playing. Played in a tournament in college once at Saginaw Valley State, it was late october I think, when we got to the course it was about 40, windy, and cloudy. It started to rain sideways on the first tee. I then saw an umbrella race across the fairway unattended. By the 5th hole the rain turned to sleet. By the 9th hole I was putting through a light layer of snow. By the 18th hole it was sunny, no wind, and about 45 degrees. Shot 81 that day, low for the day was 78 by anybody on the course. Next day, 65 degrees and sunny. Shot 75. LOL.

you know your having a bad day when... Your a freshman in college trying out for the golf team. New golf team, taking 12 members. 40 are trying out. You go to this college for this specific reason. The college course isn't open yet so we play at a public course near by. I put my clubs near the bag drop by the clubhouse and go practice putting. Come back 10 minutes later and they are gone with a similar looking bag near them. Clubs no where to be found. I couldn't play that day and spent the day with the coach on the cart watching the other players. Tryouts are 2 days. That night I get a real bad fever and flu. Still no clubs. Coach offers me to use his which are 1/2" short, 2 deg flat Ping Zing's when I played Titleist Blades 1" long 2 deg upright. Next day I battle thru cold / flu and shoot 80 with his sticks. He reluctantly keeps me on the team that year for my mishap. 2 days after tryouts get a call from the course saying they have my clubs, Someone put the wrong clubs in the car for their friend. Had to tryout Sophomore year for team as well and made it, shot 76, 74 for 2 day tryouts. :) That first tryout day was a bad day.

that's my daughter in my profile pic on the left .. she's 7 now .. i've been taking her to the course since she was 5.. She can hit a 3 wood about 50 yards.. I let her tee up irons in the fairway and stuff still and just let her have fun but now that it's finally getting warm in michigan again, she's been out in the back yard with her set hitting whiffle balls. She's excited about playing, it's fun :)

boy it's finally getting warm here in Michigan but the wind is unbelievable.. played Saturday in 30+ mph winds ... 4 irons going 250+ downwind, 170 into the wind. you do the math. was a struggle to say the least!

I picked up the Ap2's last year in the summer and was hitting them great all year.. after the winter break my iron play went to crap.. i would go around and hit mostly solid shots averaging 12+ greens a round. first two times out i couldn't hit them solid to save my life. I've been to the range 3 times this week working on irons and now I've got confidence in them again .. I've been in the 30's all 3 9's I've played this year but strangely enough it's been more from short game. we'll see how they do tomorrow.

What distance do you hit your clubs (irons and woods)
BigDaddy_Sean replied to Danattherock's topic in Golf Talk
Driver - 280 + 3wd - 250 5wd - 230 4 iron - 215 5 - 200 6 - 190 7 - 175 8 - 165 9 - 150 P - 140 -
played 3 rounds so far this year .. been sitting on my arse all winter and i was tired even from riding and playing cart path only. Signed up for the michigan amateur which is end of may... walking required. i wanna start walking again, but never gave myself motivation to do so.. used to walk 5 - 7 times a week in high school / college and would always lose about 50 lbs in the summer doing so. Playing in maybe 4 other tourneys during the summer that I'd like to walk. Always felt I played better when I walked and was more loose. I've since gained about 50 lbs since i don't anymore.. 6'5" and 320lbs .. struddlin around the golf course. lol.

Post up newly bought clubs/gear!
BigDaddy_Sean replied to not yet satisfied's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
lol.. ummm... i hadn't bought new stuff in about 5 or 6 years.. so i went all out this year: Driver: Taylor Made R7 Superquad (didn't like it, sold it for a Ping G10, added X flex shaft) 3 wood: taylor made tp burner (replaced callaway bobby jones 3 wood) 5 wood: taylor R7 irons: talyor tour burners up until about 15 rounds into the year, bought titleist AP2's and sold the tour burners.. original irons were tommy armour 845's this year. 50 degree vokey gap wedge. putters: ummm... rossa monza spider, traded for yes diana, traded for scotty cameron circa 62. lol. i was a club ***** this year. -
lol Yoshi, it's in Auburn Hills right by the Palace .. on I75 about 20 miles north of downtown detroit. I like the layout .. most everything is right in front of you yet it's still difficult, there's nothing thrown at you that you don't see from the get go.
-
congrats! great way for the first. I remember my first ... University of Michigan Junior Golf Camp .. 1991 .. been playing less than a year. #18 at the time, now #9 .. but then it was a par 5 downhill tee shot, 2nd shot over water. 3 wood to about 3 feet, made it.
-
it's all about their attitude .. and how well they keep up. i got paired the other day with a 4 handicap player who was a nice guy and all .. but had a temper on the course .. bad shot he'd smash his club in the ground .. the course we were at had nice 12"x12" flagstone carved yardage markers on each tee box (5 sets of tees) ... he would knock a ball in the woods, bitch a few times and slam his club on the yardage marker and take chips out of the engravings.

arcadia bluffs in michigan, 75.4, 147 .. meadows at grand valley state university (college golf i played) .. 74.2 / 133 shepherds hollow in clarkston, mi .. 76.0 147. there's some toughies here in Michigan!

i never liked Tiger Woods golf that much .. from the PC to the XBox versions .. What I really miss is Links LS ... that one was the best .. all the online tournaments .. the gameplay was realistic as well. I wish they'd bring that one back .. Microsoft bought out the company that made it, then stopped making the game :(

Cord Grips = a better grip?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
chords are brutal if you're not used to them or don't play often like people have said .. I never liked them. I always used golf pride tour wraps .. just last week I finally splurged on some Wynn Grip Polymer Chords (partial chord) .. they're soft yet still tacky .. and aren't brutal on the hands .. I used one glove all day today in 90 degree heat and didn't have one shot slip out of my hand .. it was nice. -
yeah that chinese girl had a heck of a swing. The one kid who quit because of the "spasm" in his neck .. what a crock. He just didn't want to post a score .. then Hank told him he's gonna be his project kid .. will be kind of cool. I like the layout though .. to know if the kid is gonna be a good golfer .. tournaments .. tournaments .. tournaments .. got to put the pressure on and make them hole out every shot .. that's the only way you can tell. It sure taught me when I was a kid how to play, I miss all the tournament action I used to be in.

shot a 79 today from the tips at Fieldstone in Auburn Hills, MI, about 7100 yards .. so only a few holes i hit wedges in .. most everything else was from 5 iron to PW .. I didn't have one real miss with the AP2's .. a few were a groove or two low which resulted in a shot short of the green and resulted in bogeys .. but wow, to go back to blades after 10 years on cavity backs .. i was able to punch the ball, cut the ball, draw the ball .. hit a 10 yard cut around a tree with an 8 iron to 4 feet for my only birdie. i was about 5 - 10 yards off distances, mainly short from my tour burners, but i was constantly hitting them solid ... which felt real good! they are staying in the bag for a long time!
-
glad you like them. I played my first round with a set of AP2's on friday. Look at the lofts on Titleist's website for the AP1's .. the reason they are going longer is they jack the loft up quite a bit .. it's OK .. because the irons are designed for a little higher ball flight .. I loved my AP2's when I hit them .. I didn't really mishit a shot .. yardages were a little off (shorter than my TM Tour Burners by about 5 yards) .. but my favorite was a 175 yard 7 iron at the last, completely flushed to 6" for an eagle (500 yard par 5).
-
friday at Salem Hills in Salem, MI .. a simple stroke play tournament with a buddy of mine .. he shot 69 and medaled .. I was hitting the ball like crap and came to the last 6 over .. pulled my tee shot left like i'd been doing all day, 500 yard down hill par 5 .. had 175 left to pin in left rough .. grabbed the 7 iron .. 6 inches. almost bounced in the hole .. one hop, stop .. tap in eagle for 76 .. good way to finish off the round.

a few years ago people were golfing in michigan through new years .. it was 45 - 55 degrees up until 1st or 2nd week of january. last year sucked, snow on the ground from november thru early april.
