If your current putter works for you and you're happy with it, keep it. Last summer I bought my Kenny Giannini G4 and absolutely fell in love. It will be a very long time before I look to swap out my current putter.

Forged irons for 18 handicap?
Metzexpress4 replied to thenewguy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I currently play the Callaway Apex's and love them. The top line was a hair thicker but it definitely fits my eye and it was far and away the best iron I was fitted for. I also tested the Titleist AP 1 & 2 and a Mizuno set that was released the year before the JPX-EZ Forged. A combo set between the Apex Pro and Apex could be a good way to go. Definitely get fit no matter what director you go in. -
How Often Do You Replace… Your Putter?
Metzexpress4 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Went through a proper fitting last year and I don't see me replacing my Kenny Giannini anytime soon. Equipment isn't everything but I've never had this much confidence in my flat stick on the greens. 5+ years for sure! -
Big Bertha Alpha 815 question
Metzexpress4 replied to SoundandFury's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My swing speed is also in the 105-109 range and after a fitting I purchased the Alpha 815 with the Aldila Tour Rogue Silver stiff shaft (69g). I have always battled a slice, nothing crazy and at times more like a fade that I start to far right, but my during my fitting we discovered that my old driver, TaylorMade R11 w/ a ProForce V2 stiff shaft (66g), was not doing me any favors. The ProForce was too light and I was not getting the face to shut properly which started my ball much further right compared to where I was lined up. During my fitting, I experimented with the heavier shaft (69g) and set the Alpha to +1, Draw. I immediately saw the difference and my numbers backed it up in every category; smash factor, launch angle, spin, etc... The decision was also made to cut the shaft down to 45" from 45.5" and even though I was a little apprehensive about those .5", my control and distance are both better for it. My first round with the new driver I didn't love the ball flight as I felt my tee shots were ballooning and not really peaking down range. My next time out I flipped the core down and I immediately fell in love with this driver. The ball flight really fit my eye and I was definitely longer compared to the Taylormade (I had the course to myself for 90% of the round and was able to hit multiple tee balls with both drivers). I have always been a TaylorMade guy but this is easily the best driver I have ever had in my bag. I could not be happier with the purchase! I also tested the DBD but I was more consistent with the model I bought and after close to a dozen rounds, it was definitely the smart decision. -
Replacing my Nike Ignite 001
Metzexpress4 replied to Metzexpress4's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I LOVE my G-4. Part of it may be mental because I have a ton of confidence with my putter, but my putting has drastically improved this summer. I've played and practiced more which obviously helps but I don't think it would be fair to overlook what a proper fitting and confidence can do for your game. I stayed with the stock grip and I don't see my self going to the SuperStroke. -
Golf Digest - Hot List Grips

I use the Croosline ACE 3Gen and I love these grips -
A proper fitting is definitely the way to go, and based on your post something you already know. I bought new irons earlier this year and I went in with the same mindset of moving to a, "players iron." After the fitting I walked away with the Apex's and I absolutely love the choice I made. Great turf interaction and I can still work the ball even though they were labeled a GI. Before buying I tested the AP1's and 2's, Mizuno JPX-825 and the Apex's.

Scotty Cameron... Should I?
Metzexpress4 replied to sigfan2340's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I bought a new putter back in May and I went in with the intention of buying a Scotty (it was a birthday gift so budget was not a concern). After hitting the Scotty's, Bettinardi's, Odyssey's and Kenny Giannini's I left with the Giannini G-4 No Neck. Loved the way it felt in store and had a great fitting experience. I've never been this confident on the greens and my game has reflected that. Not saying it's all the putter but I have shaved two strokes off my handicap since April. The Giannini line is slightly cheaper but not by much. -
That's hysterical because I always walk away with multiple cards when I play with larger groups. I've tried an iPhone app a handful of times but call me old fashioned because I'm always pulled back to marking up a card. I work in Mercer county and I'm sure there will be a weekend or maybe an summer day that we could link up.

Hey everyone, I joined the site back in April but I figured I would take the opportunity to introduce myself. I have been playing golf for about nine years but I have put a lot of time into my game over the last four years. My goal is to drop my handicap into the single digits and I'm on my way shaving a stroke off already this season (went from 13.9-12.2). Once in a while I struggle with my driver off the tee and my old friend "slice" makes an appearance. For good and sometimes bad I can be a stat junkie as I track FIR's, GIR's, Up/Down, sand saves and putts during my rounds. I love reading everything golf and through other gift subscriptions I'm pretty sure I will be receiving Golf Digest until I retire 30 some years from now. I mostly play the local county courses but I am hoping to join with a great practice facility one day.

Switching back to FootJoys

My dad has worn his contours for over 18 months and he LOVES them. He has never had a bad thing to say about them. -

I would agree that some slipping can be caused by an unbalanced swing but I've always been a little more comfortable with spiked shoes. I have had my DNA's for a little over two weeks and I absolutely love them. I have the all white shoe and I might even add another color (red) or the all black option. -

Thanks for the response and the pic. I wonder if he switches back at some point after the Open if he doesn't see the results he is looking for? -

Anyone know what putter Brandt Snedeker switched to? Golf Channel video did not mention what he switched to and I can't find much online. Interested to see what it is given he has used his Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie for the past 8 years. -

I just finished "Putting Out of Your Mind" by Dr. Bob Rotella. It was a great read and I am considering picking up some of his other titles. Anyone read any of his other books?

best golf bag with built in cooler
Metzexpress4 replied to golfaddct's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I also have a TaylorMade Catalina bag and I do like the size of my cooler. One thing I didn't pay attention were the club dividers. They are not full bag length and that was something I now wish I paid closer attention to. My dad has a SunMountain KG-3 and he absolutely loves his bag. -

Good to know that they are comfortable! Maybe it's me being stubborn but I am not a fan of a spike less shoe. I'll be heading down to Myrtle Beach next weekend and I am hoping to pick up a new pair soon! Thanks for the feedback! -
Last year I was looking for a new golf shoe and the Puma Neo Classic ProType caught my eye. Unfortunately the soles split on both shoes after just four/five rounds. Luckily Puma offered to cover them and I received enough to buy the Puma AMP Sport model. I have had them for under a year, I play 40-50 times a year, and the sole has once again failed and water has been soaking the shoe from underneath. With two issues in a row I'll never buy Puma again I am jumping back on the FootJoy train. I will most likely be looking at the new DNA's. With that said, I walk the majority of my rounds and I was wondering if anyone has any strong recommendations for someone who likes to walk a lot. Also, has anyone ever played with inserts in their golf shoes? I'm exploring that option to add some comfort with how much I walk. Thanks!

Replacing my Nike Ignite 001
Metzexpress4 replied to Metzexpress4's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Picked up my new putter about a week ago and I went with a Kenny Giannini G-4 No Neck. Decided to roll with the stock .580 Giannini putter grip and I will make a decision after a get a few rounds under my belt with it. Thanks for the feedback! -
Replacing my Nike Ignite 001
Metzexpress4 replied to Metzexpress4's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm looking to switch to the Super Stroke for the same reason. I have a tendency to grip the smaller grip tighter and I am hoping the larger grip allows me to ease up a bit. -
I am looking to replace my Nike Ignite 001 and I've taken a look at the Scotty Cameron Select Newport line and some of the Odyssey putters as well. I am more of a blade guy but any and all suggestions are welcome. As a bonus, this is a birthday gift and budget will not be much of a concern. Also considering switching to a Super Stroke grip, most likely the 3.0, anyone have experience with this switch?

I literally went in with the same mindset. I wanted a nice sleek top line and nothing that was to clunky. Even though the top line on the Apex was slightly larger for what I was looking for, at address the club looked so inviting and it just breathes confidence. Good luck with the search!
