My best round of golf came when my putter was on fire. I was also hitting some good shots with most of the clubs in my bag, but one guy in my foursome that day still talks about how I must have made over 150' of putts that day! I had one bad putt the whole day that was for a birdie from the opposite side of the green, probably 60 feet away. I barely hit it half way there and I was still out. I lined that putt up and drained it for par. I also ran in about a twelve footer on 18 to lock up a 69 (par 71 course). It was a great feeling that day, especially since it was for the championship round of our annual golf trip and I won in a landslide!

There are a few that can AVERAGE 300yd drives. I will say this: As long as my ball does not hit an edge of the fairway tree or other course obstruction that would limit the ball flight, I do average 300+ on drives. I know that those things are part of the game and the course and would legitimately affect a tour player's average, but that is just my disclaimer Now I know most people on the boards do not believe posters making these claims and I do understand that due to the anonymous nature of the internet it is easy for anyone to make these claims. So I posted the only video I have of my driver swings from the last trip to the range onto You Tube. Not the best video since I was shooting it with my phone and looking directly into a setting sun, but enough to get an idea.

Can't compete with dual aces on the same hole, but... Several years ago I was standing on the opposite side of the green waiting on my buddy to hit out of the sand so we could all putt. He hosel/blades the shot and it is headed right at me (which I was standing "way" left of the flag). In the split second I have to react, I can tell it is going to barely miss me and I stick the head of my putter out in an attempt to make contact and keep the ball from rocketing into the pond beside the green. The ball strikes the lowest edge of my putter face at the same time I am moving the head downward toward the ground. The ball comes to a dead-stop under the head of my putter on the fringe. It was an ultra-friendly round, so he plays it from there and salvages a two-putt bogey!

Played a local course that we usually make it out to a few times a year. Hole #7 is a short par 4 (playing 274 that day according to my SkyCaddie) with an elevated tee. For some reason I can almost always drive this green with my 3W. The green is surrounded by bunkers, so there is little chance of running one on the green. I hit a long, high shot with a slight draw that headed right toward the middle of the green. They just aerated the greens last week, so I was able to see the sand splash on the green when it hit. I thought it hit pin high, but was a bit deeper and rolled off onto the back fringe. Hit a nice lag putt to about 2 feet and finished that up for a birdie. Only birdie of the day.

I had to vote a bit of both, but I recently read a really good article on playing fearless golf. Most all of us on this forum will never make a living playing golf and we shouldn't treat the game like it is all about your score at the end of the round. The shots that replay in your mind forever are rarely the ones where you were playing conservatively. Thinking back over the last few seasons, I have grown progressively more conservative for fearing of screwing up my handicap. The thing I realized is that my game was progressing faster and all in all more fun a couple of years ago when I was more aggressive. It was also the time when I posted many of my best rounds and have memories of some shots I will never forget! That being said, I am going to try to incorporate more fearless play in my game this season. I am not going to get crazy and try to carry a 300yd shot over a pond to try to make a par five in two, but I am going to try to make more shots that I am capable of instead of looking for the safest way. Golf is a mental game, and always being conservative does not always bring out the confidence that can help you get your game to the next level. Now there are several people on here that could probably take me out on a course and whip my score while playing conservatively. I applaud anyone that figures out how to manage this game the best they can. My way probably won't be right for most, but I am letting loose this year!

81 on Sunday afternoon, which I was happy with after starting 5 over through the first 4 holes! Got it together after that and hit the ball ok for the first round. Still lots of rust in the swing, but it was nice to enjoy the good weather and get out there.

We have an annual golf trip to the same course every year and the first tee has a maintenance access road that crosses about 50 yards in front of the tee box. There are stop signs on both sides of the hole and a sign that warns drivers to watch for people teeing off. This teenager that was obviously lost had driven across without stopping three times right when someone was about to hit. Finally one in our group hits a low burner just as soon as the kid makes his fourth pass (totally unintentional) and it drills his front driver's-side door. Probably wouldn't have been funny if it were two feet higher, but I couldn't help but laugh when it happened.

So I am not sure how you can make such generalizations based on the flex of a shaft. I tried several different shafts in that head before I bought it and that one worked best for me as a standard length driver. That V2 shaft is like a broomstick compared to most "stiff" shafts I tried. If you look at the bottom of my signature, I also have a XX flex shafted 6 degree driver that is 47.5" that I can mash too. I have tried several head and shaft combos over the years and the Superquad I have now has been the best mixture of length and consistency for my swing.

Anyone have experience with Forged Titleist 735 Irons
golferfreddie replied to hammock3's topic in Golf Talk
I really like my 735s in stainless, although I bought mine right before the AP2s came out and I wish I had waited for those! Don't get me wrong, the 735s are great and the progressive cavity back is a great idea but those AP2s are pretty sweet. -
I am an 8 handicap and a 300y+ average. My longest from my last round was 351 measured with my SkyCaddie SGX. Let the doubter posts begin, they don't bother me. I know how far I hit it

House of Forged makes great shafts. I have a XX UST V2 and a XX House of Forged. The House of Forged (HOF) is my favorite by far. You can often find them for much cheaper on some long drive forums ( https://www.longdrivers.com/forum.php or http://www.incepta.ca/forum/index.php ) My swing speed is in the 120-130 range as well. I took my HOF shafted driver into Edwin Watts the other day to hit on their monitor and see what it had to say, but it is broken. The only vids I have of my swing right now are from the other day with my new phone and it is pointed into the sun. I will see how they look on a monitor and may throw it on here.

2nd shot on a par 5 that is ALL uphill. I was hitting from under a tree on the left side and crushed a 3 wood that I had to start out way right to avoid the next tree in front of me. Played a big draw that landed between two bunkers that guard the front of the green. The ground was soft from the rain the night before and it is a pretty steep climb to the green, so it didn't make it on, but did follow it up with a nice chip to about 3 feet and made the birdie.

300 yards - fact or fiction: Post your experience
golferfreddie replied to Fat Slice's topic in Golf Talk
I honestly am one of the few from the poll results that is a 0-10 and 300+ driver. Although the main reason I have made it to 0-10 is that I rarely hit the driver. Most of the time I choose to hit the hybrid off the tee (avg about 240-250 with it) for accuracy and it more often leaves me with a full shot into par 4's. My under 100yd. wedge play is the weakest part of my game so I prefer to leave approaches with full swings and thus lower scores. Although I really do like crushing a drive in best-ball tourneys! My longest measured from this season with my SkyCaddie is 371 for a flat fairway and slightly elevated tee box. -
This is as close as I can find you: The hybrid version gets around 300mpg and has room for 2 golf bags. Too bad they are only available in Cali for now. http://www.aptera.com

Well almost... They are a little over 0.6 litres per rotor housing, so they come out as a 1.3 liter for the 2-rotor versions. But you are right about finding one that has not been too modified. The one in the picture was bone stock when I bought it. THe only things I added to it were for reliability only.

Want to play a tour course in 2009
golferfreddie replied to golferfreddie's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I think it will end up being Sawgrass. Just have to wait and see what kind of deals they have going on about a year from now. -
Want to play a tour course in 2009
golferfreddie replied to golferfreddie's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Well that will not happen with our foursome! I have the best handicap and I am not quite there yet myself. We may not get to play the week following the tourney anyway, so maybe the crowd won't be as crazy and they will open them up for us. I wouldn't be too upset if they were a bit up from the Sunday location! -
Want to play a tour course in 2009
golferfreddie replied to golferfreddie's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Thanks, I will check it out. The Sawgrass deals are pretty good. There was one that was for 3 nights and 3 rounds (1 on the tour course and 2 on the Pete Dye Valley course), 1 hr private lesson and some other stuff for about $850 per person. -
I am trying to work out a trip for our normal foursome to a PGA Tour stop course for sometime in 2009. We all want to see what we would really score playing one of these courses from the tips and all rules enforced. We want to find something within a reasonable driving distance from Knoxville, TN. The best deal I have found so far is playing TPC Sawgrass. They have a bunch of packages that are reasonable for what we are wanting to do. Anyone have any other ideas?

Play conservatively and pick your aggressive shots wisely. Most of us are not quite good enough to go for every pin we can reach or hit drives to the narrowest parts of the fairway. My best rounds always happen when I hit smart shots instead of trying to hit Sportscenter Top Ten shots. There is a time and place to be aggressive, but the conservative play will reduce penalty shots and still let you score well.
