1. W
Nice read. I like those posts. I don't know what you are talking about. I don;t even think the year 1990 ever existed ;)
Well, the year 1974 existed too. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974_FIFA_World_Cup_Final But that was before my time.
2. We played terrible yesterday. The German team from 1990 is unforgotten - I can still remember the semi final against England. That was a great match. And the match against Holland 1990. Germany is far away from that level...
3. The trajectory I mean looks more like a thin shot. Technically the ball is strucked thin, but just because the clubhead bounces from the mat and then hits the ball.
4. It means the center of gravity isn't on the clubface, it's inside the clubhead.
5. I think mats with a hard surface are quite good. You can feel fat shots because the clubhead bounces a bit and generates a low ball flight. On soft mats you maybe don't have that kind of feedback.
6. Ah, ok I see. Indeed a beginner could get confused. You can execute every shot independently from the location / distance. I just tried to explain why you use those shots.
7. I described the technique of each shot and added the situation when it usually is played. putt-chip ( you grip and swing the club like a putter around the green) chip ( little backswing (A2) with very little or no wrist action ). Used around the green. pitch-chip ( bigger backswing with little wrist action ). When you're too far away for a chip and too close for a pitch. pitch ( backswing with full wrist action ) When you're too far away for a pitch-chip, and too close for a full iron shot. But I agree, you can play a putt-chip from the tee too, independently from the distance to the hole.
8. Pitch and chip shots are certain techniques that you use in certain situations. Of course you can make a pitch shot with wrist action when you are 20' away from the hole, if it makes you happy.
Pitch/chip is technique based, not distance based.
Every golf shot is technique based - what is a distance based golf shot?
9. Choosing the right shot depends on distance, pin position, condition of the green and the lie of the ball. Based on that information you choose the technique and the club.
10. I would say there is a putt-chip (you grip and swing the club like a putter around the green) chip (little backswing (A2) with very little or no wrist action). Used around the green. pitch-chip (bigger backswing with little wrist action). When you're too far away for a chip and too close for a pitch. pitch (backswing with full wrist action) When you're too far away for a pitch-chip, and too close for a full iron shot.
11. And how do you address the ball then? Hover above the grass or just place the clubhead behind the ball so there is still the grass in between?
12. Without glove I tend to grip my club too hard. That's why I wear a glove.
13. When you address the clubhead behind the ball you push down the grass. Is this considered as changing the lie of the ball or not?
14. I think I will try to generate the same swing feeling with my irons, keeping my hands and arms passive throughout the downswing. Not trying to hit after the ball. Just drop the club into the slot, transfer your weight and turn your body. Everything happens at the same time, it's like magic.
15. I can hit my 3 wood from the turf effortless and easy, a great feeling with a great ball flight. But I can't get that same effortless, easy feeling with my irons. I always want or try to control the club - has somebody a explanation for that? Is this a timing issue? Is this effortless, easy feeling what should be achieved with every club?
16. Indeed, great side, thanks a lot!
17. When you don't hit the sweet spot with your irons, do you actually feel if the ball was strucked at the toe or the heel of the clubface?
18. This is EXACTLY what my instructor is working with me on, it's one big key to a great golf swing. My recent problem is that I sometimes don't move my hands "inside" enough. My question is how far do you go inside with your hands at the A2 position? If you would drop your hands from the A2 position, in which direction would the clubhead fall? Towards your toes or the middle of your right foot? Do the hands move 90 degrees inside from the A1 position?
19. I always carry. I feel just more flexible on the course especially around the greens when I have all my clubs always on side.
20. So if I understand it right, by "spreading" the weight / mass behind the clubface it won't loose as much distance on off center hits. But generally the sweet spot still has the same size or does it get bigger? And how do off center hits feel at impact? Still soft because there is more weight behind the face or how does this work?
21. Does someone know which Pros have an early wrist cock in their swing?
22. Probably it depends on how bad or good your game really is. When you're just shanking the ball or the shanks frequently appear during your rounds it really can be devastating. Fun and frustration are often very close together in that tough game...
23. 2 alignment sticks and a new PING head cover for my PING iWi putter.
24. My Pro changed my takeaway from a late wrist cock to an early one. Reason was because my backswing was to flat, the results are very good but it was very hard to get used to it. I personally still think a late wrist cock is a more natural motion.
