This is something I really need to work on. I have really noticed this spring, on longer putts, I end up going way past the hole.

Hang it there Judah...congrats on the personal best! I played 18 this morning and started out with a 55 and closed with a 47. Out of the 1st 9 holes I had 3 that I played especially poor. Mis hits, poor decisions, etc.... Until next time I guess.

In the local league I play in they keep a separate HI for league that only includes the scores I post for league. I think that is silly, I think everyone should carry a USGA HI but whatever.

Section 5 Posting a Nine-hole Score to an 18-hole Handicap Index® Q. How do I post a Nine-hole score to my “18-hole” Handicap Index? A. Each nine holes on a golf course has its own USGA Course Rating™ and Slope Rating®. Make sure to post the nine-hole score with the appropriate nine-hole USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating. Two nine-hole scores will eventually be combined to create an 18-hole score and be designated with the letter “C” (e.g., 85C). Nine-hole scores are combined in the order that they are received into the player's scoring record from any club or from any combination of nines, regardless of score type. For example, a front nine middle tee score could combine with a front nine back tee score made from any course. Please visit Section 5-2c and 5-2d of the USGA Handicap System manual for further reference. http://www.usga.org/HandicapFAQ/handicap_answer.asp?FAQidx=13 I play 9 hole rounds all the time, on 9 hole courses and 18 hole courses and they are combined.. doesn't matter.

Nice job on the 94! I went out after work and played 9 and shot a 53, about my usual. I kept the ball in the fairway for the most part but struggled in other areas...
-
Ok.. you guys win. I was able to go out after work and put 9 holes in. On the 6 holes I used my driver on I hit 5 fairways. This was gripping down about an inch and shortening my back swing. On the one fairway I missed, I pushed my drive into a fairway bunker. So I averaged around 215 off the tee which isn't far but farther than 165 yd 6i.

I do have a My Swing thread started. I have not uploaded a swing video since last summer though, I need to get it updated. And I have not purchased LSW yet...

My modest, short term goal is to get my HI below 30 and keep it there. I have had my HI below 30 one season about 3 or 4 years ago and that was due to a few rounds where I played some of my best golf. Soon after is when my game went way south, and the last two seasons I have been slowly digging myself out of that hole.

I wear shorts in 50+ degree weather. If there is a chance of rain I make sure I keep my rain pants in my bag...

Well, like I said, I found some success "gripping down", @Shindig , and taking a shorter back swing with my driver at the range yesterday. I will continue with that strategy when I play on Wednesday night. But in all honesty when I playing my worst it is when my driver is out of control. Last week out of the 4 holes(round was cut short due to weather) I used my driver on, I hit one fairway. One was just in the first cut of rough but not a bad lie, the other two were crappy lies that directly affected my next shots. And I guess I should make myself clear, I wasn't thinking about this as a long term solution, just something to try and to see how I do.

@The Recreational Golfer I read your original post and disregarded it. But the more I think about it I wonder how much better my scores would be if I teed off with my 6I. My scores certainly couldn't be much worse. Yesterday at the range I worked on my driver some and by choking up about an inch and taking a shorter back swing I was able to get it under control. I'll see how it goes at league tomorrow. When I have a chance I think I will play 9 and just tee off with my 6I and see how it goes.

How Many Courses Have You Played?
pecos24 replied to gortyl's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Ok... revised to 73. I keep finding courses in Oregon that I have played. Put together a map. I made some guesses on a couple courses I played in AZ because I could not remember the names. https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?authuser=0&authuser;=0&hl;=en&hl;=en∣=zpbf7r6mOlR4.kocgrVsKG_pk -
Yeah, me too!

How Many Courses Have You Played?
pecos24 replied to gortyl's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Stumbled across this thread looking for something else today...cool thread. I came up with 67 courses across 5 states. I am sure I am probably missing a few. But I added a couple I think I played but I am not sure. Oregon - 36, Montana - 16, Washington - 7, Arizona - 5, Nevada - 3. I don't collect something from every course, once in awhile I get a cap or a shirt. I am sure I have some score cards but I have started thinning those out. I like the pins on the Google map idea, I'll have to try that out. -
Congrats on the 48! I looked through your scores real quick and saw you had a few sub 50 rounds. Looks like you are headed in the right direction. I keep seeing all these Game Golf rounds posted it is getting harder to resist....

I used to keep it in my bag on vibrate. Now that I use GolfLogix it is in my pocket. If time permits I may check messages, etc. If I am playing alone and no one behind me I may take a call from time to time.

I need to get off my tail and get a new video posted. In the meantime I was wondering if there is a drill that would help me work on swinging out? I really have to concentrate on swinging the club head out, if not, I tend to pull my irons and slice my driver.
-
Probably somewhere in between. I used to be exclusively a picker. But as I have taken more lessons the last few years my swing has changed and I hit more down on the ball. I don't generally take a big divot, more like I mow the grass down to the dirt.

How Often Do You Replace… Your Hybrids?
pecos24 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Never.... I have never owned a hybrid. When I bought my 7 wood several years ago I was also testing hybrids, I just hit the 7 wood better and so that I what I purchased. I may consider swapping my 4I for a hybrid, since I don't hit my 4I very consistently. -
How Often Do You Replace… Your Driver?
pecos24 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I voted 5+ but it is probably more like 4+. I have had 6 drivers over 25+ years. The first driver I had that I really liked I bought around 2003. It was a Kent Sports head, Alpha Reaction?, that Fiddlers Green in Eugene assembled for me. About 6 years ago I decided I needed to catch up with the current technology. I tested out a Ping G10 and really liked it but got cheap and bought a TaylorMade Burner instead, saved myself a whole $50. I played with the Burner a couple years and never really liked it. I broke down and bought a used Ping G15 on Ebay and haven't looked back. I don't have any plans of replacing it anytime soon. If I do it will likely be another Ping. -
How Often Do You Replace… Your Fairway Woods?
pecos24 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
5+ I am in the process of replacing my fairway woods now. I have been using older Adams Tight Lies 3 and 5 woods, I am not even sure of the year, I bought them on Ebay. Probably around a 2000 model? I just replaced the 3 wood, I received a TaylorMade Rocketballz 3 wood for Christmas. The 5 wood will be the next one I replace probably by next season. I also have and Adams 7 wood that I purchased around 2004 and I love it. I doubt I will replace this club until it wears out. -
How Often Do You Replace… Your Wedges?
pecos24 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I voted 5+. Right now I only buy a SW separate from from my iron set, which has a PW and AW included. I don't use a LW. My last SW I used about 8-10 years until the grooves started wearing out and I bought a new one about 3-4 years ago and it is holding up fine. I am lucky to get 20 rounds in a year so my wedges last a while. -
How Often Do You Replace… Your Putter?
pecos24 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Voted 5+. I have had 3 putters in 25+ years of golfing. The first two I bought because of the price...CHEAP! My last putter I bought in the early 2000's, after reading reviews on golfreview.com, a DLR Hog, used on Ebay. This was the first putter I owned that had some decent weight to it and I love the feel of it. I don't anticipate buying another putter until this one is so beat up it is no longer usable.
