  1. Sorry.. I meant to link it to Morro Bay. As a side thought, one thing you may want to do is a google map of the courses. You could then see where they are and how they run. You should see why I like Morro Bay.
  2. For a set, I think this probably has advantages. For individual clubs, I think you're better off "buying" from Golfsmith or another local place that will let you return. Golfsmiths 90/90 has always worked well for me AND I get to play the club for up to 3 months. Just make sure that the club is covered under the plan.
  3. I know you guys want to "go" somewhere, but you have some of the best golfing in the U.S. in the DFW area. I'd look around at what you have locally for the mini trip. You guys could always stay at a seedy hotel down on harry Hines and hit up the strip clubs after golf if it will make you feel more "away". Here's a good start: http://www.myavidgolfer.com/ You guys could base your decisions on where the "Cart girl of the month" works. Haha! With that said, there is some really good golf in both Austin and San Antonio. Barton Creek in Austin has a great track and I've heard good things about La Cantera (I think) in San Antonio. Good luck!
  4. A few of my favs that might be in your path. They are all courses with ocean views that won't break your bank, but are usually in good condition. Two are in Santa Barbara which is one of the nicest spots in CA IMHO. http://www.sandpipergolf.com/ Pretty flat with multiple holes ON the ocean. http://www.glenanniegolf.com/main/ It's a tough course and hilly but has GREAT views of Santa Barbara and the ocean. http://www.slocountyparks.com/facilities/morrobay.htm Hilly with GREAT views of the bay and ocean. Not too tough tho.. Plenty in the Bay area, but all my Favs are hilly. The ones above are worth the hills because of the views.
  5. I've put in and taken out a 3w at least 4 times over the past three years. My latest startegy is to put in a 2H to replace the 3W. IMHO, the problem with the 3W is that it's probably the least used club in my bag. So, I get the least practice with it. I play the A3OS and am putting the A3OS H2 in for consistancy. I'm sure I'll miss the length of the 3W, but it should be made up for in fewer slices and lost balls.. *fingers crossed* Good luck!
  6. 1. Start simple. Try closing the face of the driver a bit on setup and see if that helps. Then move through some of those steps in a progression. 2. You don't need a whole new driver, just a new shaft *maybe*. Demo your driver in as many shafts as you can and then have your driver re-shafted in the shaft that works best for you.
  7. Haha! It's on the list, but I don't think I can make it till' X-Mas... Thanks to Eriks review I'm really just trying to decide between the I and the II. I don't play tourneys and am thinking the II would help more. I'm so ready to pull the trigger. I took some clubs back and have $150 at GS and am thinking about bringing another back... Anyone have a strong opinion on why NOT to go with a rangefinder that does slope?
  8. I think Ganja is just winding you guys up. None of those posts look serious to me. I always love to see comments like this from our brothers in the UK. As an "ugly American" who has lived in the UK, Italy and Spain and traveled Europe plenty, I've always been treated with open arms and smiles wherever I go. You lot love to talk smack on forums and with each other in pubs, but when we show up in person, it's "tell me about America, I've always wanted to go there". The one exception to being greeted with a smile was while checking into a hotel in Portugal. It was late and I didn't have a reservation. As I asked the lady at the front desk if they had a room, she looked me up and down with a sneer of contempt. Then she demanded my passport. It was clear I was unwelcome and was going to get the tiny, smoking room by the elevator and snack machines.. After seeing the blue passport she gave me a big smile and apologized, saying "sorry, I thought you were British".
  9. I traded up from my A2OS to the A3OS. Got em' off ebay for $450 to my door. You may be able to get them cheaper now that the A4's are out. I think they are an outstanding set for anyone over a 10hcp. The set is well thought out and the transition from 3-PW works well. They are big clubs, but that helps me feel more comfortable when I hit. Some people feel that makes them "clunky", but they inspire confidence for me. They swing well and despite what other people say about feel, I can tell the difference between a bad hit and a good one. The bad hits just don't play as poorly as a bad hit off a blade. Also, they are "workable", although at my skill level I can't really compare them against other clubs since I've really just started working the ball on purpose over the last 6 months, I used to have trouble with any club over an 8. While I still slice or hook the occasional ball, I'm consistent up through 6 now and the 3,4,5 are not as daunting. I'm comfortable enough with them that I just ordered the 2H. My only reservation in recommending them may be that the A4OS are out now. I feel that there was a significant difference from the A2OS to the A3OS and it makes me wonder if the A4's are going to be even better. Enjoy the game!
  10. Ya, OK.. Ya'll did a fine job of talking me out of it.. Haha! Unfortunately No b-Days coming up, but I do have clubs for sale (in the FS section, hint-hint-hint) and can bring something back to Golfsmith. Gack.. I already have a sureshot GPS unit. I don't like the annual fee and having to worry about uploading courses when I go somewhere new. I like to try lots of new courses and was thinking the rangefinders ease of "point and shoot" might be better for me. Maybe I need to start a GPS vs Rangefinder thread?
  11. Look harder grasshoppah. Or you can buy my used ones from me for $125 shipped (each).
  12. I just read Eriks review of the Leupold and it gave me the wants.. I play decent courses and the markers are probably close enough.. But it just seems like a fun "toy" that *might* help my game too.. But $300 isn't cheap.. Shite.. I really want one... Quick, someone save me from my wifes wrath and talk me out of it..
  13. A quick vote for the Golf Pride New Decade Multi-Compund grips. It's a great concept that blends a cord grip on the upper and a nice comfy rubber grip lower. I really like them. They're not cheap though.. http://www.golfsmith.com/products/17....580_Red_Round
  14. All I could think of is "are you fooking kidding me". These things we amazingly beautiful, but so small it looked like a $.50 cent piece stuck on the end of a shaft. Apparently these are the clubs Tiger uses. I don't know if I could make clean contact in 1 out of 10 shots with them. The next time someone starts talking about using blades to re-live the old days or play a "more pure" game I'm going to suggest these and see how it works out for them.
  15. Ya, that's nice if it wasn't completely disingenuous to the way the average American increases their pay over time. There are plenty of families who are just hitting their 250k earning potential that never saw these great tax breaks you speak of in the 90's. The world isn't made up of 55 year olds. The "new earners" are now being told that working hard and making more money is a bad thing and that they should be punished for it. IMHO, it's pretty simple really. People that work their asses off for the money they make should not be punished for it. That's what ANY system that taxes people at a higher % for making more money does. This plan just furthers it. We should be figuring out how to build a better and EQUAL tax plan, not gunning down high earners (and spenders) who keep the economy going. If Obama was really about change, that's what he would be doing, equalizing the tax field. What he's doing now is taking the easy way out and using a faulty tax plan to raise votes.
  16. JD is that Uncle everyone wants to hang out with, but that no one wants to actually invite for a family outing. It's too bad he's wasted such talent... They didn't arrest him. They just stuck him in the tank until morning.
  17. I think he's referring to this from the article: "However, in reality small dimples are not always very effective in decreasing drag and increasing lift. This results at least in part from the susceptibility of small dimples to paint flooding. Paint flooding occurs when the paint coat on the golf ball partially fills the small dimples, and consequently decreases their aerodynamic effectiveness." I guess if the paint could fill a small dimple it could conceivably fill the tail end of a spiral as well? I learned A LOT from that article. Very cool.
  18. There's a good deal on a Rife in the FS section. I have no connection to the poster.
  19. Very cool. Be interesting to see if it actually improves anything or not.
  20. Keep your eyes on the forums and I'd bet you can get both used for under $300.
  21. Another vote for teeshot here.
  22. I also hit my driver better than my 3 wood. I think that the whole idea of a 3 wood being easier to hit has become less true with new driver size and technology. I went back to a 3W for a while, but I'm still more consistant with my Driver and 3I. I think I'm going to buy a 2I Hybrid and see if that will fill the gap.
  23. Early on there were a few reports of the the superquads faces caving in. One of my buddies witnessed it on the driving range one day. It was pretty obvious though. That said, a crack somewhere might be really hard to see/notice. I'd look it over again and see if you can find something. Either way, call TM and see if they are willing to help. They'd probably be OK with you sending it back to them to look at.
  24. A few quick thoughts. 1. 44 really isn't that terrible these days. For example, the Titleist A1 PW is 45. 2. The Adams GW, SW, LW all match up with the PW and can be had at TGW for $75 each; GW (49°) • SW (54°) • LW (59°) 3. I also have the A3OS set and dont think I would adjust them just to make them "match" aftermarket wedges. I'm not a huge hitter, but my irons are pretty close to the distances my friends are hitting theirs. They do seem to fly a little higher though. I don't mind because I don't have a lot of backspin and it helps the ball stop better. Good luck!
  25. I think most of us change out our drivers WAY too often. Recently I've become a putter Ho. I'm wondering how many people trade in iron set regularly though..
