  1. I would accept the fact that your kid is not you and let him be.
  2. Absolutely. The roll of the ball off the face is pretty incredible. I found another post I did on my Rife I have one and like it so far. It hits straight and is pretty forgiving. The center shaft isn't fully centered so you can line it up without distraction. It's got adjustable weights but I find I like the consistency of one weight. The roll is amazing and true, but can actually throw you off a little. I've been using a white hot Rossie for the past few years. Between the softer feel of the Rossie insert and the better roll of the Rife I'm totally blowing through breaks... Without hitting very hard. So, I'll blow through a break and then get scared and miss the 2nd short. It's taking some getting used to, but I think when I do, it will be fun. As always, YMMV. It should also be said that I was using the Tiffany. The grooved area is much smaller than on some of the other yes putters whcih may also account for my trouble with it...
  3. From one of my previous posts. I had a Yes!. It putted great in the store. It hit GREAT when you hit it perfect. For me an "off" hit would mangle the shot pretty badly. Also, I just could not get the distance right with the club. I *think* it has to do with the way the C Grooves are positioned. It could also be that I had been hitting a Odyssey XG Rossie and was used to the insert. But, I'm just a knucklehead 22 HCP so it's hard to say for sure. I do know that I ended up returning the club and taking a %10 hit at Golfsmith to do so. I'm not saying the Yes! is crap, it just wasn't a good putter for me. For a lot of others it is working great. That said, hitting it "right" really made me a believer in the groove technology, so I went and tested a Rife 2 bar hybrid. It has a grooved insert where the grooves run uniformly accross the entire face. I am putting MUCH better with the Rife. Better than I did with the Rossie I used for two years. All *that* said, I just bought a used Rossa Spider to fool around with too.. And it *seems* to be hitting as good or better than the Rife, but I've only had it for a day... I'm thinking of changing my board name to "Putter Ho".
  4. I think you should buy your friends driver. Really. Different head/shaft combos work differently. That exact shaft in another head may not work as well or feel as good. Even another R5 with the same shaft may not feel "the same". The R5 is an old driver, so he's gotta be ready to upgrade anyway.
  5. Golfsmith sells them for 7.79 a piece. So, I'd say you got a good grip and a good price.
  6. I disagree. I think that after a few holes you can usually tell where someone else plays their game. i.e. I know if I'm a club above or below them and can gauge my club off theirs. I've stopped asking since some folks think it's rude, but I'll still sneak a peek. And it still helps. Ya, this is a "flame on" topic for sure. And the rules guys have a very valid point IMHO. That said; As long as I am *certain* that the ball is not OB, I do the same thing. If the guys in front of us are slow, I'll take my time and really look. If I can't find it, I'll take the drop and stroke. But if I think that taking my allotted time to look for a ball will slow the course down, I can sleep at night with a drop and hit without counting. I lose 1-4 balls a game. I figure I just saved the course 20 minutes on a bad day!
  7. My FT-i is FOOKING LOUD, especially on hard mis-hits. It actually makes my right ear ring. Does anyone know how to plug their ear with their finger while swinging a driver?
  8. I try a lot of balls and still find the Nike Power Soft to be one of the best ones, especially for the price. A few years ago one of the magazines placed it second in a shootout with big name expensive balls. It's soft but doesn't spin a bunch. Good for us amateurs.
  9. The noodle is a pretty underated ball. That said, if you like the noodle you might like the Nike Power Soft as well.
  10. Haha! True. I also like Costco. $20 for *$60* shirts is a good thing. Hard to find discounted long sleeve in brick and mortar shops tho.. Mostly I go online for them.
  11. Thin layers and wool socks. Either uber thin ski underwear or thermals. Bottoms could be jeans or thick Kaki pants with windbreaker style overpants if it gets too cold. For the top, a long sleeve golf shirt, a thin but warm golf zip up and a wind breaker. Buy some hand warmers at wal-mart and keep them in your pockets and with your balls.... in your golf bag that is.. Also, keep your bag in the house the night before. Clubs and balls will play easier when you get there.. At least for a while. Last year I played 18 in 36 degrees like this and was good. It wasn't windy tho.. Finished in 2 hours.
  12. This is a good list. Do most of you use these guys for clothes as well? I just can't pay $60 for a see thru shirt.
  13. I agree.. Which is mainly why I asked. I guess it's all just marketing though. Sounds like it's very common and I'm just out of the "New ball" loop. That said, I liked the old B330-S so I may try the "new" ones.
  14. So, what you're really saying is "If I suck, I might as well suck with hard to hit blades"? IMHO, you will get better faster with game improvement irons and enjoy the game more. So, while you suck now, with blades you will suck longer (and may never improve playing once a week).. With game improvement irons you will enjoy the game more, faster.. Good luck...
  15. Last week I had to be on a concall during my round. (Yes, I was one of those jackasses for 1/4 round ) I really just had to listen so I wasn't interrupting anyone. I forgot to bring my ear buds. My pre-shot warm up and hitting consisted of; Listen to last thing said. Drop phone. Hit. Pick up phone. It was the best 4 holes I'd had in 12 months.
  16. OK, junior rookie question here.. Until the past year I never really paid much attention to golf balls. When you suck, you can hit poor shots equally with most balls. Plus, I found a ball I really liked that was cheap. That said, I was at a golf show last week and they had the "old" B330-S's for $30. I picked some up and was talking to my buddy about the differences between last years B330-S and this years. He said there was a difference.. So, what's up with that? Do manufacturers routinely change ball characteristics without changing the ball designation? I understand you don't want to market a whole new ball, but to change the characteristics and not change the designation, even a little seem dishonest to me. Or is my buddy wrong? I understand that it happens with clubs, but for some reason I expect it form clubs, so it seems more "OK". Thanks!
  17. I think that even a crappy green reader could benefit from this *technology*. After all, if you are more confident in your line you will hit it better. And, if you hit the ball in the direction you wanted to and miss, it may help you read greens better as the day progresses. That said, I could use a $.20 pencil to do the same thing. Or even the free one that comes with every cart... I think I'll try it this afternoon.
  18. Ya, that's pretty dorky.. yet kind of cool too.. mmm.... I can't believe you don't have the Golfsmith Enterprise putter with cool customer Winn Enterprise grip?
  19. I have one and like it so far. It hits straight and is pretty forgiving. The center shaft isn't fully centered so you can line it up without distraction. It's got adjustable weights but I find I like the consistancy of one weight. That said, I use a chipper, so take my opinion FWIW.
  20. Most of what the OP said is fairly accurate IMHO. Golf has MORE than it's share of snobs. It's one of the few things I dislike about the game. I've got some theories that mostly involve jocks past their prime and dorks that couldn't play contact sports.... That said, I get paired up with good people more often than not, so I'm not going anywhere. On the jeans note... I find it amusing how "no jeans" courses are happy to take your money if you show up in jeans on a 45 degree day in January. I used to play with friends that were always dressed perfect. On cold winter days I would show up in jeans and a callaway sweatshirt. They were always worried the Marshal was going to come around and kick me off.... Bahaha!
  21. Some really good answers here.. Armstrong seems a no brainer... Talk about dominant.. I agree that Jordan has to be up there too... I hadn't thought of Petty, but that's a good one as well... No doubt (IMHO) that Rossi is the equivalent of Woods in Motorcycle Racing.. He's been dominant through multiple classes on different bikes/teams Gotta look at Colin McRae in Rally racing.. Schumacher for F1.. MMmm.. I guess I like Motorsports... I'm not sure you could find someone in Football or Baseball since the teams are so much bigger that I'm not sure you could say one guy was the "best ever" in either sport... Keep em rollin'.. Good stuff!
  22. I think this might be a regional or even a state by state question, but does anyone have an idea of what kind of chemicals/fertilizers, etc.. get used on golf courses these days? I've always liked the idea of living close to or on a course (at the right location), but with kids that play in the backyard I've also worried about what they could end up in contact with and how it could affect their health. Thoughts? Thanks!
  23. When I got backl into golf I played with an old set of pings and the PW only. Then I bought a set of A2s and was going to buy the A2 wedges to go with it. My friends talked me into buying premium wedges. I never hit well with them. I just recently bought some A3s and THIS time bought the A3 GW, SW and LW to match. I hit all 3 MUCH better as it simply feels like an extension to the rest of my set. As a side bonus, it's my experience that people will be happy to "keep" a lost Vokey or G14, but they'll return a stock GW from a set. Sucks, but is true.... As always, YMMV. Good luck.
  24. I would have bought everyone a beer and told the whiney brother how you liked baked potato with your free steak dinner.
  25. Not many.. And thank goodness. If I was always paired with bogey golfers my golf ego would be even lower than it already is. On the other hand, I wish these guys would realize they are not bogey golfers and play from the whites where they (we) belong...
