Thanks for all the help, sorry for the delay in responding, but I got married yesterday and have been out of town. Anyway, I am not unhappy with my wedge play at all, more of the geek in me wondering how/why. I don't think I really want or need to spin the ball back, I am happy with the ball stopping within 3 feet of my divot, now if I could get my divot within 3 feet of the pin I would be all set. Thanks again for all the information, it totally makes since! Jamie

I am 6' and my clubs are +.5" and 2* upright, best move I ever did was get fitted. Jamie

Thanks for the recommendation, I guess the ping wedges I have are not as aggressive on the groove cut, is that the issue? Jamie

OK, first off, I am a sweeper when it comes to my swing. Second, I use soft ball but not a high dollar ball like the pro v1 or callaway tour balls. I have G10s to include my gap and sand wedge (50* & 54*). I hit my wedges high and with some spin but not enough to spin the ball back. My balls stop within 1-3 feet of the divot. I am not unhappy with my control and stoppage of the ball this is more of a want to know. What is keeping my ball from spinning back? Is it the ball, my wedges, my swing or a combination of them? Can a "sweeper" spin the ball back? Should I pick up some high dollar balls or a 58* vokey or callaway wedge? Thanks Jamie

depends on who I am playing with. Solo - when I am done I might have a couple if I grab a bite. With a group, non league, as many as everyone else does league-after we are done, with the guys I played with. With dad/best buds- as many as fits in the cooler!!! jamie

Firm believer in find what you like and stick with it. I had my Ping Anser 4 for about 14 years. Just switched to a SC, still in the learning curve with it but it will be my daily gamer. I do have two Byron morgans on the way though, I imagine those will be for display but if the SC doesn't come through, it may go to the display rack and the Captain Morgan will step up :D Good Luck Jamie

I went 2 months, maybe 12 rounds without a three putt. This was with my 14 year old Ping Anser. Switched to a Studio Select Newport 2 and let the learning curve begin, again! Jame

Sounds like my SC story. Wanted a Newport for awhile and came across a Studio Select Newport 2 for a good (great) price and picked it up. It replaced a 14 year old Ping Anser that was getting beat up pretty good and wasn't the prettiest to look at but it could make some putts. I hadn't three putt in 2 months, maybe 12 rounds. Played the first time with little practice and pushed and pulled EVERYTHING. 5 three putts that round, so bad I stopped keeping score. Next outing went back to the old standby, the league course I play at least once a week and know pretty damn well, putts starting falling!! I still had 2 or 3 three putts but I had 5 one putts, four of them for birdies! I will continue to use the putter, practice a ton over the winter on the floors of the house, and retire the Ping after I attempt to do a semi-restore on it this winter. Jamie

THanks I just read a post on another forum talking about "tee up" money. It said Callaway offered $3000 a week to anyone who played the Big Bertha II driver when it was introduced. Not sure the date, but 3K a week buys a lot of Pizza and Beer! Jamie

So what can an average tour pro earn from a club contract? I am just curious, is it $50K? More, less? What about someone (other than Tiger) in say the top 25 golfers? Do the guys on the Nationwide Tour get cash to play their clubs? Thanks jamie

I guess I thought he was just going to play there for the winter/spring to work on his game. He did just say on TV that this is his last tourney in the US, but I guess I thought he just means for the year? Not sure though.

18 holes in an hour? Damn that is fast. In High school I averaged 9 holes in 45 minutes with a cart. This was not what I would call super fast. I play fast compared to many, but I still was able to enjoy the sites and sounds of the course and the views of the River the course overlooked. To finish 18 in an hour I would have to be running between shots!! Jamie

I wouldn't be worrie about the job side, if my boss gets pissed after playing golf and wants to fire me, then maybe I want to work somewhere else anyway :D 1st golfer plays safe, 2nd more aggressive. Worst putter putts first for the line. Like it was mentioned above. GOOD LUCK!!! jamie

I bought the 5900 model with a UST shaft this week from him and it compares exactly with the demo at my dealer. The price tag is even the same and is located in the same spot. I think you got an odd loft in an old model for a great price. The 5900 has dropped to 150 - 200 depending on shaft on ebay. Congrats jamie

I am 37, soon to be 38 and I started when I was 12 or so, my Dad got me into as he believes in the concept of Networking and you never know who you will meet at a Course. The course was a long way (at least to a 12 year old) from home and my friends and I would go whenever we could find a ride. We played wiffle golf in our yards when we could not get to the course. Never took a lesson and was never really all that good. In high school discovered girls and the amount of golf decreased until we got a golf team started. I was a sophmore and my buddies were a freshman and sophmore. I golfed #3 all three years and Matt golfed #1 all 4 years. He played in college. I stopped playing for awhile and then started again on a wed night mens league where it was about the beer, bets and we had 4 and 5 man team scrambles! Went to the service (Navy)and played 2-3 times a week while in Orlando. Moved to SC and played 2 times a week, bought new clubs (1994) and moved to CT and stopped playing. Move to Southeast GA and played 6-10 times a year as none of my friends liked golf. When I got out of the service I played in the occasional tourneys with buddies but didn't play much more. I am lucky enough that I can normally hold my own and I don't embarrass myself or others so I scramble well. I got a new job this year, more money and more time off, and I bought some new clubs (Ping G10) and have been at the range 2-3 times a week and play 1-2 times a week. I got my soon to be wife a starter set and some lessons and I am hoping to squeeze a couple rounds in before the end of the year with her. I have spent more money on golf this year than all my golf in the past. I am now stuck on putters and have bought 6 (I to game, the rest to display) this summer. Jamie

Where? I am getting married back in Canton in less than a month. Jamie
-
Grew up across the River from Quincy, town called Canton. Bought my last set of clubs from Nan's Golf World back in 94 or 95. Went to Pekin for work a couple years back, first time in a long time I was in a bar and it wasn't a cardinals bar. Took me a few minutes to figure out why the Cards game wasn't on and why they had no intention of changing the channel! I currently live in METRO STL, or rather, the Il side of st louis. Welcome jamie

Are the fake clubs mostly found on sites like ebay? Wow, if not for the price I would have thought those clubs as real. Jamie

costco has golf clubs? I really need to consider getting a membership! jamie

Yes that is what they do, we have a skins game every week and then have the random game that is unknown to us. It helps spread the $$ around. Not normal but it works Jamie

Our league has a weekly prize that is "Hidden" to the masses playing and is only known to the sec. of the league. She then reveals the prize after the round is played in our weekly email. It changes weekly but has included highest score (net and gross) most putts, fewest putts, etc, you get the idea. Good luck! jamie

I didn't read all 5 pages but I think what I think. Keep score when you are ready, simple as that. One thing I have told many a new golfer (read it in a golf mag 20+ years ago) is to ignore the course pars. If you add a stroke to every hole then it relieves a lot of pressure on the individual. Bogey golf is not a bad score for the average golfer by any means and if you do this then you are giving yourself an extra stroke on your approach or around the green. I do think you should score honestly as this is an important part of the game. I play a lot in the middle of the week when it is not busy and this allows me to play multiple shots. I always score the first ball and use any additional balls striclty as practice, even when my scoring ball is par and the extra ball was an eagle :( Good luck and have fun

My soon to be wife is interested in golf and has expressed interest in getting some clubs. I was thinking of getting her some cloned clubs custom fitted for her as she is only 5' 3" tall and I don't want to drop a bundle on name brand clubs and then she not like it at all. Any thoughts on this concept? I was looking into Diamond Tour Golf online as they can custom fit a variety of cloned clubs (looking at G10 and Callaway Fusion Clones) with pink shafts and matching grips. Though this is not important to many, her only desire was pink clubs. I figured I could get set up for $300 or so and after next year if she decides she wants to play I will look into the real thing and either try and sell the clones or donate them to the local High School Golf team. Thanks for any info
