  1. If, what you describe happened, all I can say is "wow? what a bunch of A-holes" As posted earlier, may be talk with the manager or head pro, especially if you know either. There is no reason for this this. It just makes it worse for everyone. Being old myself, I don't like saying this, but I've noticed that some old farts are more interested in being grumpy and irrasible than helpful or professional. As for etiquette, hell most people can't even pronounce it let alone know what it is or how to spell it.
  2. I agree about Tiger being calculating and his father creating the moster golfer. I'd like to think that there is some sincereity there though. My impression, watching him last year was that he was more upset about being caught, then what he had done. I guess the old saying of, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" applies.
  3. I like golf becuz 1) It isn't easy and requires work and dedication 2) Its a sport that you don't get good at in 1 or 2 years, generally 3) Regardless of how good one gets, it can still humble you at times 4) There are usually many options on how to play a shot 5) Crazy enough, I think it is relaxing 6) It can be casual or competitive. I like the competitive, love money games Now, if one wants forgivness, go to church and if one wants easy, go snowboarding
  4. When I have that shot, driving into the wind. I tee the ball low & back a little, so it hits mid face, chock down a little and do a smooth 3/4 swing. Sometime I'll rip it, but still tee it low and back. "When its breezy, swing easy".
  5. Wow, Mr Punkherper post does seem to be over the top. Apparently he really got his buttons pushed. I hope he does a bunch of bongs before he strokes out.
  6. Austinangel The cavity back will be more forgiving, hence you will probably be able to "step on it" more than a mb, (muscle back aka blade), hence it will go consistently a little further. At least that is what I've found between my 3 mb and 3 cb. This years Niki's irons are impressive. I bought this years full cavity back 2i with a PX 6.0 shaft and couldn't be happier. Doesn't go as far as my hybrid iron, (Bridgestone Air Muscle), but I really like the feel and can work it. I'd suggest the Pro combo set. That way you have forgivness in the long and mid irons and better distance control with the scoring irons. (mb's have better distance control than cb's, so it makes sense to me to have those in the scoring clubs as accuracy & distance control are more important with the scoring irons, but thats just my feeling).
  7. There is a cornicopia of very good hybrids out there. So the one you hit the best is the one you want. The only way to tell that is to go and hit a bunch of hybrids in the desired loft(s) and see what you think.
  8. +1 on the above post--thats what I was think'n too.
  9. Reshafting isn't that hard and will save you a butt load of money. I believe the Golfsmith web site has a section on this under "club building". For cutting shafts I prefer a tubing cutter to a hack saw. For me the hardest part was putting the ferrules on, so I bought a ferrule tool from Golfsmith; Golf Galxay should have this stuff also. On a earlier post someone said to just do your 6i with the new PX 5.5. That is a good idea. I can tell you from experience that it really sucks when you've redone all the shafts and find that you don't like them.
  10. That is pretty much my thinking too. Also, from experience, I know that people who are that controlling don't just walk away from things. He will be back, but I don't think anywhere near as dominating as he was. I still think he has a good shot at Jack's record.
  11. IMO there is a very big difference. Modern blades are easier to hit than the old blades; the MP 68's being the best, again IMO. That doesn't mean they will cover up a bad swing, you just don't get punished as much with a mis hit. I'd suggest a combo set; cb's 3-6 or 7 and mb's for the rest. I'd keep the old clubs b/c they are fun to play once in awhile. I have a old set of Wilson Staff Tour blades from 1978, 1-pw that I'll put out and play, when I'm play'n well. Really makes me appreciate the new stuff.
  12. As good as outside of Yakmia, it can't hold a candle to Salt Lake City. 4 ski areas within a half hour of city ctn which includes Snowbird & Alta. A lot of really good, reasonablly priced munies and better weather.
  13. Golf and fly fishing are my passions.
  14. As much as I love Mizuno irons I'm not really carzy about their drivers, wedges or putters. So if I was going to have just one brand in my bag, which will never happen, I'd go for this years Nikies. I have last years 420cc drivers and really like it; I have last years wedges and really like them; this year I bought the full cavity back 2i (which I think is just phenominal), I just bought a pair of Niki Bandons, hell I'm damn near a waking Niki advertisment already!
  15. I go along with what most others have already said. I would imagin they are conforming clubs, you bought them and they are yours, you apparently play pretty well with them--I'd say you buddies are just jealous and would rather look cool than score well. Play well and when or if you feel you want to challenge yourself, after you improve of course, there is a patheon of very good equipment to choose from. One last thing. When I initially read your post a quote came to mind I read off of the internet. It doesn't deal directly with golf, but I found it pretty good advice. "It is none of your business what others think of you"; translated, who do you live your life for (?) and translated to golf, who are you playing the game for? So once again, play well
  16. I am skeptical about any study on marijuana done by the AMA, FDA or the drug companies. As pointed out by Johnny2balls, its all about money. The last thing the drug companies what to see is the legalization of marijuana b/c it will be a loss in revenue. The drug companies have 6 or more full time lobbyists in DC and if you don't think they have very much power look what happened to the legislation last year of our medical system. The way its played out so far absolutely shows where the power is; and that is with the drug and insurance companies. Since I've been in the trenches of medicine for the last 34 years I can tell you that neither of those enities have your best interest in mind, its all about money and whats best for them.
  17. Hmm, interesting 4putt. And how do you know this? I'd think that b/c marijuana has been around longer than alcohol so I'd suspect just the opposite. Now if you are just talking about the US of A, then I can see it, although that margin is probably shrinking. If you are talking world wide, I would suspect the opposite.
  18. I'll set someone else try one of my clubs, but I don't let them out of my sight. Also, as posted earlier, its not a bad idea to say, "you break it, you bought it".
  19. I'd suggest a combo set, which is cb's 3-7 or 8i then mb's for the rest. As loft increases so does forgiveness. You really won't notice a real differnce between a cb in a 8i or better and a 8i or better in a mb, well may be in your mind there will be a difference and of course asthetics;(on a side note I can't take the looks of a cb in 8i and above; it just doesn't look right, but that is a personal thing and has nothing to do with playabilty). That is one reason why the splint is at a 7i, but usually the 8i in a combo set. The other reason is you have better distance control with a mb. Not a big deal with the long and mid irons, but very important with the scoring clubs, which are the 8i and up. Not to be rude, but considering your hc you may want to consider hybrids for 3-4 and may be the 5, then cb's, then mb's at the 8i and above. Most ppl can hit from 5i and up okay; below the 5i its a different story. When I got back into the game about 10 yrs ago I started with a cheap knock off set and played them until I felt pretty good with my ball striking. Then I bought a combo set of 1025 MacGregor V-foils cuz I wanted a set I'd grow into and I still have and game them now. It took me awhile to get used to excellent clubs. What I found was the better the club, the more it just wants a good golf swing put on it and it will do the rest; that lesson took a lot of furstration and some time to learn for me. In short, you can play any clubs you like. It just depends on how much frustration you want to deal with; and there is no way around frustration with this game, its part of the game. Thank God even though they try to make this game easier, it isn't easier. Hell, if I wanted easy I'd go snowboarding.
  20. Johnny2balls You sir are a breath of fresh air. The self willed ignorance of the American public is incredible. As you posted there are some really excellent documentries on Marijuana. The last one I saw on MSNBC (?) was very eye opening about the monies involved. To the point that many DA's were saying it should be legized b/c the court and incarceration costs are breaking the bank. Also, for years police chiefs have been saying if you take the money out of it that will take the crime out of it. On the other side of the coin the growers in northern Cal don't want it legalized b/c they would take a cut in pay. There was a study done by a Dr and other advanced degreed ppl with ppl who suffer from chronic pain. There were 2 groups; one group used just their pain meds, the 2nd group used their pain meds and smoked some herb. After, I believe 6 months it was found that the 2nd group who used both their pain meds and toked used noticablly less of their pain meds. They felt this suggested that the THC moleclue has a "mediating" mechanism and of course should be further studied. Of course the FDA, AMA and drug companies didn't want to hear any of this and wouldn't give this study and review. I found that a little odd. For those of you that are not familar with chronic pain it is treated with very powerful opiates and methadone, even more addictive than heroin. When the hell are we going to figure out that outlawing anything only makes it a stronger market and gets criminals involved. Especially in a capitalistics culture, its not if its illegal, its how much it costs and if its illlegal it will cost more and the seller doesn't have to worry about taxes. As a business man anywhere from a 80 to 120% profit can't be dismissed easally. And we haven't even skirtted then industrial hemp market, which the US has really missed the boat on.
  21. 1st---Zeph,,,"what did he wrote"??? (lol) I know your command of the English language is better than that--I guess that is why I found it amuzing; just a little kidding and not meant to be serious. I agree with what Malvern posted. On the other side of the coin, he is Irish and young.
  22. Ahh, a little porn is fine with me. As for the addiction, well IMO it depends on who did the study. If it was a right wing Christian group, then I am inclined not to take it at all serious; however if it was done by a university I'll peruse it. Which brings me to the observation of our culture where we use sex to sell everything, but by God you better not have it, (lol). It makes me wonder when sex will come out of the closet in this country. Pretty sad when TV shows can show all sorts of blood & guts & violence, but God forbid we show any sex. If in fact those stats are right then that just suggests how inmature and sophmoric we are as a society. But then again this country was founded by a bunch of up tight, prissy malcontents--no wonder we haven't changed, but don't you think it is about time to? As for a porn thread on a golf site; if this was under golf instruction or something of that nature then "yes" it would be inappropreate. However, it seems to me this is the sundry section(s) for everything other than golf, so its appropreate. If one has a problem with it, as earlier posted, then don't bring up this thread. Its not rocket science.
  23. What is really crazy is that weed is listed as a schedule 1 drug. This means that it is highly addictive and has absolutely no medical use. Interestingly enough, cocaine is a schedule 2 durg, which means very addictive with medical use. Little disproportionate, don't you think?--I agree with you all the way. Tobacco & alcohol are the gateway drugs.
  24. I'm not sure about the percentage, but I do know that the majority of the ppl in prison currently are there for non violent crimes. Also, only about 30% of draftable age males in this country are eligable for military service b/c of criminal records and or health problems. Pretty sad I'd say, and "yes", we need to revisit many of our ancient, out of date, archaic laws. LOL, here is another one, hemp is a wonderful producer of ethanol. Just to make sure, I'm on your side. I too have had many more problems from alcohol.
