  1. The only watch I wear at this point is a Skagen. Most watches look huge on me, but this one seems to fit just fine... I also really like movado, but they're way too expensive for me to justify. http://www.skagen.com/item/584LSLM.fx
  2. Yea, definitely feel the same... If I sold all my guitars and the library of sheet music, I might be able to put a down-payment on a house. I'm a little afraid of what'll happen if I ever get the Golf club equivalent of GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome). The truth is, in my opinion, that the rudiments of golf and music education are very similar. A huge part of it is about breaking down something that is complex to it's basic, simple, parts, and learning how to put it back together, so it functions properly, all the time.
  3. Hiya, Alex. Nice to meet another newbie :)
  4. Well I've been posting here a little bit for the past month or so, but I haven't yet introduced myself... My name is Jonah, and I'm 24. I recently moved to Gaithersburg, MD, from Litchfield, CT and I've been playing golf since April. I started as an excuse to get my grandfather out of his house every so often (he played a couple times a week until about 2 years ago), and have continued out of pure enjoyment of the game. I'm not much of an athlete in general, but the sports I do get into seem to be much more independent (golf, fencing, biking, swimming, etc.). At any rate, just wanted to formally introduce myself. I enjoy reading a lot of the posts here, and hope I can make some worth while contributions. Cheers, Jonah

  6. I think not bringing the clubs down was the smart choice... But definitely the harder one. I may just have to stop looking out of certain windows in their house for a while, hahaha.
  7. Well I moved from Connecticut to Maryland on August 30th with no job to speak of, and a very very friendly set of Girlfriends parents who are putting me up. Their back yard is separated from a golf course by a chain-link fence, and because I'm living off savings at the moment, I decided to leave my golf clubs with my parents in NY, lest I be tempted... Well darnit, I'M TEMPTED, and I can't do anything about it. Needless to say, I'm a little aggravated... I need a job soon, cuz this is brutal.
  8. Absolutely.

    Got game?

Started: 4 months ago Got Serious: 4 months ago Got a handle on it: I'll get back to you in 20 years.
  11. I only play 9 at my local course because it's all I have time for, and that usually costs $18.00 on a weekday, $13.00 after 5:30, and $20.00 on a weekend... Presumably, a full 18 would be double that, so about $40.00. $75.00 for a round would be too much for me, I think... Whether it's the standard or not, I really don't know.
  12. They did a really good job of making a Joker who was not clearly motivated by personal gain or revenge... One who just wants to see the world burn, as it's said in the film. I do think that Jack could have played the character as well, but that isn't to take ANYTHING away from Heath Ledger's performance, which was exceptional. All in all, I like the direction of the last two Batman movies much more than the original. The characters are just so much more developed, in my opinion.
  13. sorry to hear about VanCortland... I haven't played that course in a while, but I remember enjoying it a lot. I hope the issues that you mentioned get worked out. So what's the ruling on a dead guy on the golf course... play it as it lies, or what?
  14. I try to play 9 holes twice a week, but my funds are pretty limited at the moment.
  15. gotcha, thanks.
  16. same here... I try to keep my clubs clean, but I don't spend a great deal of time on it. As long as I can get most of the dirt off the club faces, I'm happy. Don't know if this is the way people get with clubs but... as a musician I put a lot of value on a good worn in guitar, where you can see the paint wearing off in certain places, a couple dings, and of course lots of wear on the back of the neck. It's a sign that whoever owns that guitar really loves to play it... Do more accomplished golfers get that way about their clubs? Or are they fragile enough that you have to replace them after a certain period of time? Maybe just the putter? That seems to be a mainstay when the rest of the set goes... Just curious what the more experienced in the crowd have to say about it.
  17. you'd think there'd be a direct connection between practice and playing... Apparently Golf is the exception to the rule! I've had that experience before and it is truly the most frustrating aspect of the game, I think. Of course, the next time you go out, you'll shoot your best round yet... It's about balance, really
  18. The fun part for me is playing the ball wherever it falls... That's the game, isn't it? Granted a little aggravation usually follows, but if you're just going to drop the ball where you want to play it, why not skip the fairway, and drop it in the hole? I will say, though, that because I'm fairly new to this game, I have no doubt there are some rules that I'm inadvertantly breaking (there seem to be many), but I'm trying to learn them all. The common sense stuff, though, is... well... common sense.
  19. Love the blog. Keep it coming!

  21. If this is something you believe in and find useful, then by all means use it. I can only speak for myself, and my experience. For me, I think it's more worth while to focus on my technique. Everything else I've done in my life suggests that the equipment I use is seldom to blame for my inability to perform the task it is meant for effectively.
  22. People who talk about issues that they know a short articles worth of information about, or who use a word that suggests they are savvy to a particular philosophy or profession (this seems to happen a fair amount with medicine and psychology). sound-byte politics. And, of course, slow drivers in the left lane.
  23. I think there's always a temptation to find a tool that corrects a particular issue, but for me it's just so much more rewarding to figure out that I'm gripping too hard, or I'm using too much arm and too little of the rest of my body and really drill a ball down the middle of the fairway. It's more difficult, but I think the long-term gains are significantly greater. Save the money you'd spend on the club, and put it into lessons with a qualified professional.
  24. perhaps i'm just a purist, but I think it's better to focus on proper technique, than to find ways to compensate for mistakes.
